Health Insurance is like car insurance, we pay into a system against the day we need it. I have been paying for car insurance for 34 years and had one accident, my car was hit by a truck that cost them $1500.00 so far I have lost that money battle. I have paid into Health insurance < 20 years, when I was diagnosed with leukemia, and had a 4 month hospital stay plus chemotherapy, they paid the entire bill totalling more than 104 years of premiums. I have no problem with them making profits.

I have had several health issues far less serious since my bout with leukemia, my insurance has paid all of them without question, to include colonoscopies, eye and dental exams, routine physicals since my treatment, nothing has been changed in my policy and they routinely call the house to see if there is anything I need for follow up. Frankly based on my experience, I find it difficult to believe many of the stories I hear about insurance companies dropping people after they get sick.

PS: Americans are living longer but falling behind other industrialized nations. Researchers say several factors contribute to USA falling behind in our longevity. A major one is lack of health insurance for many, for Canada and some European countries have universal health care, they say.
