  • ( lisalisa12345 as a former student of where you were I can't stand the posts people are saying. Could you please make these videos so no one can post on them?) Dr. Coker is an awesome person and and awesome instructor. I never thought I would enjoy large animal class, but I did. This is an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program so stop saying how horrible this is. It's large animal field surgery.

  • If you Vet cannot do a standing Castration, find yourself a vet that will. The problem with laying them down is there is more swelling and it takes longer for them to heel. Another thinking I do not like about what this Vet is doing is using a drill to rip the cord from inside. That could cause the horse to bleed to death if you cannot find the cord to tie it off.

  • @allenhutch Completely incorrect ... the cord and vessels do not need to be ligated with the Henderson emasculator. Since the vessels are not cut, they don't need to be tied.

  • All of my horses are done standing and before the cord is cut and not ripped out I have my Vet stitch the cord to keep any unwanted bleeding. Some horses are bleeders and you do not know which ones are till you cut them.

  • Perfect surgery for child predators!

  • Regardless you are still arguing with me on the grounds that people wouldn't want the horse as a stallion, and that's just plain wrong. If you can't handle a horse as it was born then you shouldn't have a horse, plain and simple. The fact that people let horses which have testicles die for the fact that they are too big of pussies to care for it only further proves my point.

  • A better way? yeah, more analgesic. Another suggestion (if this were my horse), a padded floor (or at least out on grass). I want such procedures to reduce as much stress as possible. With horses, the waking part can pose an issue, contributing to injury. Should have shown a part 5 on here to reveal how the horse recovers. They're usually up and back to their hay in no time. But, post-surgical complications can and do occur.

  • I find the emasculator technique to be the best. I might suggest a little more analgesic for this animal. He doesnt look like he got any. Sedation maybe, but no analgesic. I think it would be better practice to give some so he isnt so kicky. I might have also tried to incorporate the down leg in to the rope so both can be held by the restrainer. The location, wasn't that bad but i always get twitchy when there are things for an anesthetized horse to run into. They can kill themselves that way.

  • I wouldn't want to piss you off if you were my woman.

  • savages, they should have a lobotomy performed on them

  • secondly peta promotes animal birth control, i have nothing to do with peta, but yes im an animal rights activist: ANIMAL RIGHTS, not toys mutilated by their incoherent crazy old lady owners like yourself, who have no empathetic understanding towards their animals other than how cute they look in a tutu or how great this hat looks on their little heads!! i feel as though i'm wasting my time arguing with the person who forms the stereotype of "crazy cat lady".

  • so you're claiming that castration is a necessity? that is an argument incontrovertibly flawed... you only castrate your animals because they may annoy you otherwise. And if you're someone who is going to complain about overpopulation, something that is caused by animal domestication in the first place, how can you defend your stance on having so many animals? furthermore, you have in no way proved any point, did you just read off the castration brochure from your vet?

  • I find it absolutely repulsive that it is seen as something "necessary" to the animal.. would he die if you didnt conduct the surgery? sure maybe his risk of testicle cancer is higher, but hey atleast he gets to keep them! How would you feel, and dont feed me the usual jargun bullshit from your vet's manual, if somebody chose to remove from your body what defined your ego (testosterone defines the male ego), purely for THEIR convenience. If you truly loved animals you may be more empathetic.

  • @andyKanerva quote: "would he die if you didn't conduct the surgery?" Possibly...due to fighting with other stallions, or because he was sent to slaughter when no one wanted him. Horses need someone who will feed and care for them...they can't live in the local fields, ownerless.

  • I had a debate once where i said it was morally incorrect to break male stallions, a strong willed animal who truly belongs in the wild. The rebute to my statement came from a lady who said, "but if we dont break the horse it won't serve us very well!" however, this is a redundant argument given the point i first made as it is incorrect in the first place that we are breaking these animals... if you can't handle them in their natural form you shouldn't be handling them at all.

  • how can you defend yourself with the response "other people do it this way!", to mne that's sheer idiocy. Just because it is the general practice doesn't make it right. Lazy ownership and a lack of respect for the laws of nature have caused a sort of hysteria in the animal domestication realm whereas people feel it necessary to cut an animals testicles off, and they usually defended it by the fucked up state of animal domestication. That is, you defend it by the fact others do it.

  • andyKanerva -

Oh no, your one of those PETA freaks arent you...

Castration in every species is something that all responsible owners do. I have 12 cats, two dogs and a horse. Every single one of them are spayed/neuterd. People that dont spay/neuter their animals are the ones who fuel the massive amount of neglected and unwanted animals in the world. I love every single one of my animals, I provide for them and make sure they get the care they need. That includes castration.

  • i don't speak french, but i have loosely translated that to mean that we were not doing this correctly (and that we're idiots). neither of which is true. this is field surgery, it is done all the time this way, this is one of the very safest methods, and male cats are routinely done this way, as well. if there is a better way, please explain.

  • vous ete des con vous fait mal a des pauvre bete vous lavai mal anesthesier
