  • The way you feed them the worms is a great idea. Why didn't I think of that? Thsi is a cool video.

  • What all did you have in there? I want to get some killifish for my 10gal but dunno how many I could have.

  • @KongregateBadgeQuest

At that point, I believe I had around 15 bluefin killis, the two golden wonders, the baby convict, and a clown zebra plecostomous. Perhaps it was a bit overstocked, but the killis loved the large school, and the water stayed clean enough.

  • When your baby convict cichlid grow up? What will u do to it?

  • @HoppyfishPerse001

I gave the convict away to a friend before he got all too big.

  • @mattsoccer20 - It is a 10 gallon.

@maxima423 - All of my bluefin killifish unexpectedly died at about a year. I was never able to determine why. I did not think that they were an annual species. Curious as to their lifespan as well.

  • Very clean tank, nice. I read somewhere that this species prefer cooler water temps 76-79 deg F, which is somewhat confusing. Why do fish, native to the S.E. USA, where in the summer water temps routinely average high eighties to low nineties prefer temps 20 degrees cooler? Go figure(!)

  • @Folma7

That is quite interesting. I have wondered this myself.

  • love the colors of your killifish . you might wanna check out MyBffish for a similar breed of fish

  • These bite me everytime i clean the tank!

  • I have a Golden Wonder killi,

    its huge!!! its 6 inches!!

i was experemeinting once and gave it a feeder guppy and it swallowed it whole, I strongly dont recommend this fish to aquarists who have smaller fish like neon tetras

  • they say that the average life of a killifish is 2-3 years, since you have raised killifish, can you tell me if that is correct?

  • they look like they have really big mouths would they eat small fish such as neons, glow light tera ect ? , i am new to these fish

  • the bluefin killis have very small mouths. the golden wonder killies do have large mouths, and they would definitely go after anything small enough to fit in their mouth. so I would suggest full grown neons and glow lights with smaller golden wonders. should be fine in the long run.

  • ok thanks thinking of getting one for my community tank , could you take a look at the community tank vids on my page and tell me if my fish are safe

  • yeah, I would stay away from them because of your small tetras. there are plenty of other species of killifish with smaller mouths, though.

  • ok thanks mate

  • what do they eat?

  • blood worms, brine shrimp, live black worms, flake food

  • im getting some soon, and i wasnt sure as to what they eat

  • best of luck

  • How large is your tank?

  • that is a ten gallon.

  • and do ya know where i can buy eggs and such?

  • sometimes aquabid has them, but check the feeder guppy tank at your local fish store.

  • ur convict is gonna get mean

  • that's why he was only in there when he was tiny.

  • yes, you should keep them in schools. and they would work fine with neons.

  • do you know if i can breed killifish aploheilus lineatus but with defferent colours???

  • I don't believe so.

  • bluefin killis, i bought some of those at my local petstore. they come in wild from florida with their feeder guppies. thanks, i had no clue what they were

  • hey just wandering if you could have mixed sexes ov the killies ?

were do you get them from

    thanks

  • yes, you can mix sexes freely.

and I got them from the feeder guppy tank of my local fish store.

  • ok thts :)

do they require a special diet ?

will ordenry fish food be ok

    btw they fish a beautiful

  • they will readily accept flake food, but they love frozen meaty foods like blood worms, brine shrimp, etc. live black worms are a real treat, too.

  • and thanks, I like them a lot.

they make me sad though, because killifish are annual fish, and a decent amount die off in a year.

  • thts so sad :( do you get non annual killifish ?

  • not really. I just replace the die off with more annuals from the feeders. at about the same time that the year-olds die, more freshly hatched ones come in the feeders of the lfs. beautiful cycle.

  • Actually this video depicts one male (yellow with slightly larger fins) and one female (grey with a "Rivulus spot" at the base of the dorsal fin). The species is "striped panchax" (scientific name "Aplocheilus lineatus").

  • yes, but the fish this video focuses on are the bluefin killis (small striped ones).

  • Is that Lucania goodei?

  • yep

  • hey cool video do you have any tips on killifish for a noob

  • keep them in a planted tank, and look for them mixed in with feeder guppies.

they are pretty easy. they like meaty foods.

  • how many bettas were in the tank? were they all males? you should figure out what killed them before choosing different fish.

and that really depends on the killifish. I currently have about 6 or 7 bluefin killis in my ten. you could get the same look with white cloud minnows. about 5-10 would be fine. just keep up on your water changes.
