@happyymad Replace your blu ray drive mate. I had the same problem but not with FIFA 12. It was from the drive.

I lost electricity while I was playing and when I restarted it, it shows me the PS3 icon and then I can see only the background (the little waves) :( I don't want to restore my PS3 because I don't want to lose my Virtual Pro :/ answer if you find any trick to repair it ..

Hope someone here can answer this: I set my system to restore, and now the system won't display a video feed. I've tinkered with the AV cables, no luck, and I'm not sure if it went into sleep mode or died. I tried all these suggestions, plus online help, pluse PS3 customer support, notheing worked, Then I was told to try hookeing the HDMI to another tv to see if it worked. Amazeingly it worked, I then went into system setting, tabed down to display setting, chose HDMI set setting automaticlly, Saved the setting onto my PS3, Went back to my tv unplugged it for 30 seconds, Hooked it back up . AND IT WORKED

about a month ago my ps3 froze and wouldnt open up the main menu or whetever its called when i did what he said to do i had to format my ps3 it just happend to me again but this time i seriously didnt want to format it so i did the same thing opened up the recovery screen and picked the first one on the top RESTART SYSTEM and it restarted normally all my stuff was still there i dont know if its luck or something but if you have to format your ps3 try this first.
