@TheSamilyn The CPS system is so bogged because of all the bratty kids that turn their parents in for abuse so much that CPS is willing to believe a parent who would have what they could possibly believe to be a plausible excuse for every bruise and broken bone. The thing is, they need more money and they need more case workers because of the rise of children being abused. They need to have a better program as well. They take children away that don't need to be and those who don't get help!!

I would gather that the child was removed due to neglect or abuse... as generally DCF doesn't want to remove children from their parents if their parents actually act like ... I dunno... parents? The mother never said where DCF placed the child, what the final case solution was... etc... nobody knows the reason... except the mother and the investigator/case manager.

There's a website dedicated to children who had been failed by CPS because CPS either took the child away when they shouldn't have or didn't when they should have. It's a long LONG list of children!! So please explain what CPS did that was good?? I think the bad outweighs the good in this case because there hasn't been a decrease and instead it has increased dramatically and CPS does nothing they should!!!
@Tiki20021: I check myself everyday to see where I could do things differently and strive to do only the best for my child. Good parents aren't the ones who have their children removed under an abuse investigation. In fact, in all my years of working in Child Protection, I can't remember one parent who was truly not at fault for the bad things that happened to their children. Whether it is Abuse or Neglect... it is a parent's responsibility to protect their children.
@PolkDoll If CPS is so good, then try explaining the Kelsey Briggs case to me!!! And don't go to websites that are just trying to take her mother out of jail!!! The abuse was obvious because what 2 year old gets a broken collar bone and two broken leg in the nine month period of documented abuse. It happened when the child was at the mother's house as well. Then there's Logan Marr. She was taken away from her mother and given to an ex CPS worker who killed her!!! I could go all day with this!!
@PolkDoll Then there's Ariana and Tyler Payne. Their mom had custody of her own children and CPS gave custody to the father ignoring the fact that the mother had had custody. They closed the case and didn't keep it open. CPS even said after the children were murdered that they should have kept it open. They then turn around and blame the mother, because they need someone to blame for this, and they take her third child away from her. The mother wasn't at fault at all and they go and do that???

@letthelightshine1 I don't recall ever hearing about any soldier's children being removed in Florida... or Georgia... or NY... I don't know where you are and what the circumstances are.
@ajk... CPS does NOT want your kids, or anyone else's kids either. That is precisely what parents claim when they lose their children due to abuse and neglect. If you love your children, truly care about them, ensure that they are cared for without being exposed to drugs, domestic violence, sexual predators or those who would have them beaten or abused.
@PolkDoll I assume that for you to actually open up your eyes to how things ARE instead of living in your dreamland, you should share in the experience of having children removed from your care needlessly (if you have any, if not, then dont have any then) YOU set a bad example for all us good parents out there.
As I said, we were trained to "err" on the side of the child. I know some states do a real crappy job at this. I believe some CPS workers are so overwhelmed that they forget or can't get out to see the kids, but I always worked for agencies that made it the top priority. Heck, the agency I worked for had us penalized for missing a home visit by one day, just one day. Ultimately though, it is all up to a judge. One elected official decides whether or not the child stays in the home.
How come the parents who have children taken away never state anywhere what they were actually accused of and try to defend themselves against the allegations? As a former CPS worker, I know that having a child removed from your custody is not FUN and it HURTS, however, It is better to ERR on the side of the child. The parents will recover, the child may never recover.
My coworker lost a child that the Judge sent home to her father. Lost as in DEAD. That child never should have gone home
I agree that sometimes a child should be taken, I also know there are good CPS workers. NOW Children are taken everyday under false pretenses, maybe in your area there are better rules, BUT have you seen the news, have you heard the outcry? You think CPS intervention is ok? You think those children will ever forget their mothers cries as they were ripped from their arms? Mothers who have done nothing wrong in some cases?
WHY IS THAT? Tyler and Ariana payne, Shevon Myles, Haighleigh Briggs WHERE WERE YOU? Tyler and Ariana were taken from their mother with no proof, Shevon and Haighleigh were left when there was proof of abuse. WHY WAS THAT. DID THEIR CPS WORKERS GET ALONG WITH THEIR MOTHERS?
CPS workers have an awful job to do in order to adequately protect their children. They have to come up with a plan, enforce the plan and "get along" with the parents to the extent that the parents don't just give up and not follow the plan that was court ordered. I don't think it is about being the "mother's" friend, but more about being someone the mother feels comfortable enough with to ask for help, ask questions and want to improve their life and that of their children.
@damionsmamma You forgot Ryan Luke who had the same circumstances ten years previously to Kelsey Briggs, but I agree with you. Then they had to take away the Paynes's third child as if taking their first two wasn't bad enough. Then there was Logan Marr who went straight to an abusive home from a loving mother. Also don't forget Soreta sotelo who was in foster care and would have had the perfect parents if they hadn't given her back to the father!!!

My baby is in foster care due to my x husband,i cant explain the pain i feel,knowing that she was torn from a very loving home and a mummy that totally worships her!i hate the system and i hate the fact that so many children are dying and being abused!these people need to be educated!!!!
I am sorry, but it is hard for me to not look deeper here and not just feel sorry for you. Where I live children are not taken away often enough or soon enough. I know of one case where the agency had investigated the family 5 times before a child was starved to death! Injustice does happen...and it's hard for you to see, and would be for me if I was in your situation, but they are doing a great service for us. Children are being abused as I write this...and too few will ever be rescued.

Yes there are cases in which the kids should be taken away. So then it is those cases they should take action on. Instead of taking well taken care of kids from a home of NO abuse! there is a need for cps, but in many cases or most,the childern are taken on false pretinces they took me from my mother for 8 years,i have not the time to tell you what they put me though,the pills and the forced morman religon and all things they said to my mother finally 8 years of suffering i thought it would be over when i turnd 18 then on my 18 bday they told me they were going to keep me tell 21 i would of took my own life if this would of happend my cummunity rised 5,000 for a lawyer

My two older sons were taken from me too based on alligations. My rights were terminated July 2006 as I sat holding my new born daughter. Yes I was deemed fit by one agency and not fit by the ones that already had a couple who wanted to adopt my sons. DFCS is evil. It's crooked. And do not tell me they don't make momey. Did you ever think that just maybe a child was taken out of the home because of lies? Maybe that parent is one that the child can look up to. Who are you to judge? Maybe its because someone judged them that they are in the situation that they are in!! Not everyone that comes into contact with the CAS are "Bad Parents" even thought you seem to think so

I am a leader in the local foster parent assoc here in town. My group of Foster Parents strives to love not only the children but the entire birth family. Keep in mind reunification is our number 1 goal. If you are going thru something that you think I can help, please let me know. I will be more than happy to mentor you, as I have done for several birth parents in my county.
Accept the fact that DCFS needs an overhaul. Just because you are in it for the right reasons doesn't mean everyone is. I rarely see FPs give any kind of a care for the kids and/or the birth families. I don't need a mentor. I know the laws. I have a lawyer.
I am truely bothered by those of you who fault foster parents for being there for these babies, when for whatever reason the bio parents cannot. If there are false accusations made against a birth parent... clear it u. I know that if my birth children were to be taken from ne by CPS I would pray to GOD that they were placed in a foster home and not in an orphenage or group home!
You act like it is such a big chore. A few appointments a day should still be paid for in all the welfare benefits you get for the kids and extra paycheck. I know about the rates because I've fostered before. The difference between us is I STILL HOLD THE CHECKS...UNCASHED!
I do not and have not received "welfare" for any of the children I have had in my care. I get a small reimbursement check that pays clothes and activities that they would not be able to participate in if they were in an orphanage! If it was a chore, I wouldnt do it. I do for the kids.
I have, and I commend you for being a good foster mom. But to many foster moms believe they parents are guilty without knowing the parents or even the case. Remember, not all foster moms are in this for the children. YOu only talk to the DCF/CPS workers. YOu don't talk to the parents. YOu do not need to judge them.

IN CANADA $1007. per foster child per mo. (plus $300clothes) in a 5 weeks, this is one rate out of the pool, but represents the rate here. This was 2006 and a teen in rural Alberta.

EXACTLY! I'm not attacking ALL foster parents. God bless the good ones. Still, many of them are not good to the children. I just hate the abusive ones and the ones who act like they're saints for taking care of their foster children.
There are too many that are in this for the money.
My Son luckily got a good foster mom for the time being, one of my daughters got a great, great foster mom. She is a medical FM, she could not have had a better foster mom for now.
My other 2 daughters were not so lucky, , but they are together in a foster home that has close to 100 children.

70% of foster children in San Bernardino County are abused and or neglected while in foster care. It does not cost that much...and you also get food stamps, clothing allowance, free medical care and free child care as a foster parent.
Foster parents are prime targets for false allegations also, both by the kids and the birthfamilies! Read the newspapers.. there are way more birth families that hurt or kill their kids than foster parents!
Though their are some parents who need their children taken, DCF has used our children for money and it is becoming nothing more than a RACKET for their employees.

Christians ARE targets. I have one case where a father was antagonized by the social worker to become physically violent and he just said, "Look, you're not going to get me to hit you. I'm a Christian man." So, the worker said he had illusions of grandure.
Furhutmore - Foster Parents are under a microscope by the county, we have to lock up cleaning products for heavens's sake If I didnt love children I would not be doing this. My birthfamilies are thankful that I have thier kids because I not only care about the kids I care about the whole family. It is not fair to lump "every county" or "Every Foster Parent" together.
Foster parents aren't even checked beyond if they have been convicted YET... Furthermore, DCFS is unlikely to press charges against an abusive foster parent because the worker would get into trouble, too!

Have you stopped to think that maybe the Foster Parents are taking the children to 4, 5 or 6 therapy sessions per week to repair the damage that has been done to theses poor children. You can read all about foster care rates on the internet. Before you pull a figure out of the air... a little research is warrented!

Agreed! I once knew of a citizen who took a child to about 7 or 8 appointments a week... most at least an hour away. A child who is physically abused needs more than just therapy a lot of times. Occupational therapist, physical therapist, eye specialists, osteopaths, neurologists, surgeons, etc...
I knew of one or two foster parents like that. Those are the ones who take in only "problem children." However, the way I look at it is this... foster parents agree to take in children who are older, lets say 16, and they may have had abuse for many years... which of course makes them act out. They require a LOT of attention. The average foster rate for our state is 18 dollars per day. The average rate for a behaviorally challenged child is about 40 dollars a day....
Foster, you are correct. You get reimbursed probably at about 18 dollars a day. They don't take into account that when the child comes to you, they don't have proper clothing that fits, shoes, school supplies and often need to learn basic grooming. I would say that the average foster parent spends about 500 dollars in the first month in clothing and supplies alone. (uniforms for school, play clothes, undergarments, jackets, pajamas....)
We all are never alone when it comes to who can actually try on each others shoes and be able to walk more than a mile in those shoes. However it sure does feel lonely as a desert road stretching for miles on end when we are faced with the dry heat that CPS has landed us all in and without so much as a drop of water to save ourselves.
You are right in that brange02, however, there isn't one human being on this planet that had a perfect childhood, education, job etc... If CPS is on your tail, a good start would be to re-evaluate yourself. I am not saying you are horribly wrong... but by today's norms, there obviously was something that wasn't meshing well.
Foster parents don't know whats really goin on, and they really don't care. As long as they get what they want, a child added to their family. All children that come into fostering care are presumed by foster parents to have been factually abused and neglected.

There is no process that saves parents from untrue allegations. CPS will look for anything to take children, especially children under five and white.
CPS can make false allegations that stick to your record for ever. A CPS in Morgan County Ohio did this to me when I was very young. 10 years later she was finally convicted for abusing her authority,taking children away from parents, payoffs and perjury. Yet, another county CPS continues to harass me and use those 11 year old allegations as truth. BEWARE of CPS - the motive is NOT to protect the family unit. At least it has never been for my family.
FP are here to help your children deal with thier lives, as you deal with yours. We are not in it for a paycheck, last time I checked I soothe crying children, nurse sick children, cook, clean and provide 24hr care for these children all for what $400 a month.... about 1.40 per day not lookin like Im in this for the paycheck! We are all on the same team, we all want what is best for the babies!

I know exalty how you feel!!! My case started in 1999 when my Daughter was 2 years and my Son was 6 months old. When my case was over my daughter was 4 years old and my son Bryce was 2 years old. Four months later I gave birth to my third child, a baby boy and CPS took that baby away too just an hour after he was born. The alligation was munchausen by proxy.even their own psychologise said I didn't suffer from it. You can read my story if you type in amy strouhal in google.

As I said, we were trained to "err" on the side of the child. I know some states do a real crappy job at this. I believe some CPS workers are so overwhelmed that they forget or can't get out to see the kids, but I always worked for agencies that made it the top priority. Heck, the agency I worked for had us penalized for missing a home visit by one day, just one day. Ultimately though, it is all up to a judge. One elected official decides whether or not the child stays in the home.

How come the parents who have children taken away never state anywhere what they were actually accused of and try to defend themselves against the allegations? As a former CPS worker, I know that having a child removed from your custody is not FUN and it HURTS, however, It is better to ERR on the side of the child. The parents will recover, the child may never recover.
My coworker lost a child that the Judge sent home to her father. Lost as in DEAD. That child never should have gone home

I agree that sometimes a child should be taken, I also know there are good CPS workers. NOW Children are taken everyday under false pretenses, maybe in your area there are better rules, BUT have you seen the news, have you heard the outcry? You think CPS intervention is ok? You think those children will ever forget their mothers cries as they were ripped from their arms? Mothers who have done nothing wrong in some cases?

CPS workers have an awful job to do in order to adequately protect their children. They have to come up with a plan, enforce the plan and "get along" with the parents to the extent that the parents don't just give up and not follow the plan that was court ordered. I don't think it is about being the "mother's" friend, but more about being someone the mother feels comfortable enough with to ask for help, ask questions and want to improve their life and that of their children.

Then they had to take away the Paynes's third child as if taking their first two wasn't bad enough. Then there was Logan Marr who went straight to an abusive home from a loving mother. Also don't forget Soreta sotelo who was in foster care and would have had the perfect parents if they hadn't given her back to the father!!!

I am sorry, but it is hard for me to not look deeper here and not just feel sorry for you. Where I live children are not taken away often enough or soon enough. I know of one case where the agency had investigated the family 5 times before a child was starved to death! Injustice does happen...and it's hard for you to see, and would be for me if I was in your situation, but they are doing a great service for us. Children are being abused as I write this...and too few will ever be rescued.

Yes there are cases in which the kids should be taken away. So then it is those cases they should take action on. Instead of taking well taken care of kids from a home of NO abuse! and the day of court they called my mother and told her there intentions were i was to stay in sates custudy for three more years and all the things she did to lose me when old enuff to know better was not ture, then we went to court at frist it was just cps my garding and my mother the judge asked what they wanted to do with me they started on saying how they wanted me to remain then my lawyer walked a little late but. my hope grew and all there faces changed and i went home with my mother

My two older sons were taken from me too based on alligations. My rights were terminated July 2006 as I sat holding my new born daughter. Yes I was deemed fit by one agency and not fit by the ones that already had a couple who wanted to adopt my sons. DFCS is evil. It's crooked. And do not tell me they don't make momey. I am a leader in the local foster parent assoc here in town. My group of Foster Parents strives to love not only the children but the entire birth family. Keep in mind reunification is our number 1 goal. If you are going thru something that you think I can help, please let me know. I will be more than happy to mentor you, as I have done for several birth parents in my county.

Accept the fact that DCFS needs an overhaul. Just because you are in it for the right reasons doesn't mean everyone is. I rarely see FPs give any kind of a care for the kids and/or the birth families. I don't need a mentor. I know the laws. I have a lawyer.

If there are false accusations made against a birth parent... clear it u. I know that if my birth children were to be taken from ne by CPS I would pray to GOD that they were placed in a foster home and not in an orphenage or group home!

I do not and have not received "welfare" for any of the children I have had in my care. I get a small reimbursement check that pays clothes and activities that they would not be able to participate in if they were in an orphanage! If it was a chore, I wouldnt do it. I do for the kids.

I have, and I commend you for being a good foster mom. But to many foster moms believe they parents are guilty without knowing the parents or even the case. Remember, not all foster moms are in this for the children. YOu only talk to the DCF/CPS workers. YOu don't talk to the parents. YOu do not need to judge them.

IN CANADA $1007. per foster child per mo. (plus $300clothes) in a 5 weeks, this is one rate out of the pool, but represents the rate here. This was 2006 and a teen in rural Alberta.
I highly wonder about FP who say they look after other's kids, I have only seen one come out of foster care showing the profits tha FP
actually used to benefit them rather than their depreciating car and mortgage pymts not afforde without these kids, easily and securely and stable.

EXACTLY! I'm not attacking ALL foster parents. God bless the good ones. Still, many of them are not good to the children. I just hate the abusive ones and the ones who act like they're saints for taking care of their foster children.

My Son luckily got a good foster mom for the time being, one of my daughters got a great, great foster mom. She is a medical FM, she could not have had a better foster mom for now.
My other 2 daughters were not so lucky, , but they are together in a foster home that has close to 100 children.

70% of foster children in San Bernardino County are abused and or neglected while in foster care. It does not cost that much...and you also get food stamps, clothing allowance, free medical care and free child care as a foster parent.

Foster parents aren't even checked beyond if they have been convicted YET... Furthermore, DCFS is unlikely to press charges against an abusive foster parent because the worker would get into trouble, too!

Have you stopped to think that maybe the Foster Parents are taking the children to 4, 5 or 6 therapy sessions per week to repair the damage that has been done to theses poor children. Agreed! I once knew of a citizen who took a child to about 7 or 8 appointments a week... most at least an hour away. A child who is physically abused needs more than just therapy a lot of times. Occupational therapist, physical therapist, eye specialists, osteopaths, neurologists, surgeons, etc...

I knew of one or two foster parents like that. Those are the ones who take in only "problem children." However, the way I look at it is this... foster parents agree to take in children who are older, lets say 16, and they may have had abuse for many years... which of course makes them act out. They require a LOT of attention. The average foster rate for our state is 18 dollars per day. The average rate for a behaviorally challenged child is about 40 dollars a day....

Foster, you are correct. You get reimbursed probably at about 18 dollars a day. They don't take into account that when the child comes to you, they don't have proper clothing that fits, shoes, school supplies and often need to learn basic grooming. I would say that the average foster parent spends about 500 dollars in the first month in clothing and supplies alone. (uniforms for school, play clothes, undergarments, jackets, pajamas....)

Foster parents don't know whats really goin on, and they really don't care. As long as they get what they want, a child added to their family. All children that come into fostering care are presumed by foster parents to have been factually abused and neglected.

There is no process that saves parents from untrue allegations. CPS will look for anything to take children, especially children under five and white.

CPS can make false allegations that stick to your record for ever. A CPS in Morgan County Ohio did this to me when I was very young. 10 years later she was finally convicted for abusing her authority,taking children away from parents, payoffs and perjury. Yet, another county CPS continues to harass me and use those 11 year old allegations as truth. BEWARE of CPS - the motive is NOT to protect the family unit. At least it has never been for my family.

I was just asked to be on a board to help reform CPS and DFCS in GA, and I will proudly take that post. We fought them for almost a year. They took my son from me, tortured him with interview after interview trying to get him to say his daddy sexually abused him, but they could never get him to lie. Five months of physical, mental, and sexual abuse in on their "safe" homes, though, when he could've stayed with me.

I know exalty how you feel!!! My case started in 1999 when my Daughter was 2 years and my Son was 6 months old. When my case was over my daughter was 4 years old and my son Bryce was 2 years old. Four months later I gave birth to my third child, a baby boy and CPS took that baby away too just an hour after he was born.
