An employee is only an employee. Whenever I have a question about company policy I ask the employee once, and if they don't know; I talk to a supervisor/manager. If they don't know; I go directly to their head office.
This is how you get things done. Employees are paid to do a job. If they are working for a company that pays them very little, they probably don't make enough to pay their own bills.
Don't pick on the employee. Talk to the owners. They make the decisions.
