This move is effective but very very hard to execute. You need to look for the perfect opportunity, if you try it at the wrong time you end up just grabbing your opponents wrist. Your opponent is then free to turn and land a hook to the side of your face, which would very possibly cause knock out.
@zarifa112 at the end, when you still grabbing your opponent wrist in standing position and he lying down there, you can kick his throat or neck with your palm foot, in case you arent sure he is not dead ^^, see silat highest limit is your own imagination...and umm this MA is mean to kill.

if I have his arm, i would brake his arm with my left elbow. And then i would i would turn his hand on the back so he couldn't move or he want's pain ^^ more effectiv
@TheHomonyms and i would love to see how you scream like a porn actor when this sinking phyton locking all your limbs"Actually there's more than this but this video doesn't show it"
aware of applying their respective techniques in a more realistic context than the more traditional systems. I've studied plenty of traditional systems and there is much merit in all of them, but I do think there is a need to incorporate more modern methodologies, in terms of 'realism' i.e. resisting opponents, modern urban environments, etc.
@budoarts101 I would tend to agree with you. the thing with the many systems of Silat is many of them still apply to their enviroment. Silat covers so many different things its hard to say what Silat is. Western Java focuses and different things then Sumatran Silat. many of these places still have large expansive rice fields and the alike plus it has its cultureal aspects to it. but in western culture it seems completely out of place since we do not have such rural enviroments and culture.
IMHO a martial art should encompass intensive conditioning of all body parts, striking conditioning, movement/evasion of attacks (i.e. awareness of assailant positions if in multiple attack scenarios), grappling/ground work, weapons training i.e. bladed, blunt, firearm training/disarms, adaptability/improvisation and apply these skills in realistic situations i.e. public places such as bars, clubs, street scenarios, etc. I do think that systems like krav maga, military combatives, etc are more
IMHO many techniques are similar across all martial arts i.e. locks in jujutsu, aikijujutsu, chin na, aikido, etc are very similar to the locks in silat. Strikes in kung fu, karate, hapkido, etc are similar to the strikes in silat. The major difference it appears to me are the lethal short range weapon techniques i.e. kerambit, balati, kriss, etc. Having studied many martial arts I would not underestimate the fighting prowess of the silat systems i.e. seni gayung, etc.
@budoarts101 thank you for the sharp observation. Yes, silat is all about close quarter combat and short range weapons and quick kill moves. I've 'earned' the experience of being a subject of the sinking python and another move called 'seligi' that ends with a double fists to my solar plexus (i was 14) and I passed out for 3-5 minutes. Not keen to try it again.
Lets face it. The opponent in these videos is allways a retard. If you are up against someone with a down syndrome, dont use this shit on him, just push him to the ground.
@OldSchoolClassic94 you can't learn it from just watching a video, you can mimic the movement but you can't mimic the bio mechanics of the move which makes the technique, for example the turning wrist lock only works when the arm is bent at 90 degrees, and the wrist is twisted in a rotation so that the 8 carpole bones lock up, naturally making the body fall, if resisted it will be broken easily, you can't learn that from a video, only with years of training. hope this helped.
@RemusStelistu I can understand that because my Sensei was teaching Ninjitsu and Jujitsu seperat but then he said they were similar in many ways he just moved both classes together.
yeah you know it is awesome if u CAN do it...but here is so much time to get u down...stability at 0:08 is terrible..if you can do it is surelly so deadly, but if u can't, you will be on floor in 2 seconds
@all about the left hand..as other said you surely can deliver left puch or kick, but if you have any decent MA knowledge youll know that you already in the `trapping position`, that means twist/drag/pull on your right arm will stop your punch/kick, Cadbil is right, if you dont know about fighting or minimal knowledge on MA youll humiiiated your self for not knowing in what your talking about
Ever heard of a practicing a move?No one is gonna attempt to do it correctly just because they watch it on the internet. Also, they cannot turn around and punch you back when you attempt this move because you are behind them and bending their arms in half. This will trigger too much pain for them to punch you back.
In a REAL fight, no one would expect this at all, it would land faster than shown on the video and would be more effective because you actually have a chance there to break the enemy's arm before you knee him. Believe me, you may think you have time, but you don't. And even if you did some how throw a strike, it would be weak, and horrible.
@Cagedand3nRaged I did martial arts for 2 and a half years, I gave up on it saying the same thing it was useless and took up kickboxing. I actually was in a situation where I had to defend myself and when the other guy threw a punch, the block and counter strike were martial arts not kickboxing, it became reflex and saved me from being knocked out. =P
@IronIsMyLife it's not hard if you see where the attack is coming from, grabbing the wrist will be reflex once you've praticed it enough, don't practice silat but there's a move in my martial art that also relies on grabbing the wrist
seriously...this is half of the move...I've learned silat gayong...if you saw the other half...then you will know why the called it "sawa berendam' or sinking phyton in english..
anyone watching this thinking "i want to try this"... just dont. it takes alot of practice, skill, and patience just cause you've seen videos on youtube does not make you an expert, you need proper training and follow the philosophy taught. you seriously injure yourself/someone else if you dont know what your doing.
This works. This is all I do when in street fights, and it never fails me. Well, besides ounce, when dude was way too big and strong; I just stayed covered, weaved under, turned the opi. direction, and kicked backward toward his knee. It landed right on the top of his knee,he droped, and I began to kick and work that knee.
Good luck actually doing this against someone who does not want you to. Works in theory in training without full resistance, doubt it will work often under chaotic conditions.
nway...have u heard of 'silat nasrul haq' ? better search for it...what u seen now just a small percentage about silat. there are more about silat ...
AWESOME !
