  • If you continue with those can they turn into dreads ?

  • @brianxlx If you keep them in yes, they can turn into locs, you will just have to retwist the new growth

  • Can i do this on transferring hair.??? my hair is short and im 2 month post relaxer.!!

  • Hello I am trying to do my sons hair like this but when i twist his hair it doesn't tighten up... How do i get his twists to tighten up and make it so that i can see his scalp when I am done? Is it the gel?

  • Okay, thanks! I think my hair is that long already, lol

  • I have two questions, and they are as follows:

    1. How long should you grow out your hair before you start?

    2. How do you take them out?

  • @shippoiscoolbitches As far as length goes I guess a least 2 months of growth or the length of a finger nail. To take them out you can gently pull them apart with your fingers. Some people wear a "coil out" the day before washing their hair. its a nice look

  • you should definitely subscribe to damienjw84 for comb coils his technique is much faster and looks fabulous!

  • Right on !

  • I did finger coils (because i didnt know how to comb coil and i didnt have a rat tail comb) and my roots were puffy. i tried putting gel on the roots but it didnt work. will comb coils be better? Do you have any other suggestions? oh, and thanks for the tutorial ;)

  • Wow great video thank you so much!

  • boop! lol. so im a male, got like a 3 or 4 week fro going i think? ive been wanting to twist up forever and i think ill finally go through with it now... anywho how long should i wait to do it so i dont get the really short ones (i think that looks SO ugly)

  • @rkohhhy2j try coiling a section around your 8th- 10th week and see if you like the length

  • What pray tell is a TWA?

  • @blaide19120 TWA= Tinnie Winnie Afro

  • i must say your tutorials are always on point miss

  • I'm a Black male with a short fro and I still haven't had luck with these. I don't want to spend the money at a salon, but every time I try, I don't do it right I've seen different ways to do this and I don't know what I need to do to get it like yours. You're doing well, I'm just a little slow.

  • @TADAOWINC you just have to keep practicing :)

  • @lyndaespratley thats right i have been practicing also cause i want to start my dreads soon :)

  • really creative Nice!

  • OH , how I enjoyed this tutorial..I am a 57 yr old blk female. I have never had an perm or relaxer. A few times a straighting comb, ( hot comb) yes! , But i've always been natural. I locked for 8 yrs. Then went to close & natural. As I age, I don't like the close

look anymore... This I love .. always natural TY Peace

  • Thank you for this vid!!!!!! OMGosh I can't wait for my niece to get home so I can try this on her hair!!! I didn't even know natural hair could do that!. Learning so much!

  • do not condition your locs until they are well "locked" not just starting or budding. remember locs are essential a series of tightly interwoven tangles in your hair... conditioning hair detangles it. so essentially you will be undoing everything you have done to get your hsir to lock if you condition it before its time

  • "TWA"?

  • @LunerQfilm TWA is a "teenie weenie afro" and refers to a stage in natural hair growth after cutting off one's relaxed ends and being left with a small afro. The stage can continue for months after the initial cut when the afro is still technically small, but eventually the hair will become too long to be considered a twa. =]

  • i wish i could do this style.. i hav type 3 biracial hair nd its too loose.. it ain't dat real versitile lyk type 4 hair

  • i reall wanna wash my hair and i had comb twist in my hair for a few days, there nice right now so i dont want to mess them up, can u actually wash ur hair without losing the twist

  • hey...it can be achieved with caucasian/relaxed hair with a straw set....which is the same or probably very close in similarity to you coils

  • beautiful

unfortunatly that would never work on my hair

  • Life is so interesting. I have hair that naturally clumps and curls just like how you are coiling your hair and I was looking for a way to unravel mine. It happens everytime I wash it too much or swim daily. I had no idea people wanted this look. You video title said "How to comb coil" and I thought you meant how to comb (out) coils---lol, I'm giving you a thumbs up because you make me appreciate my coiled up curls now.

  • cute ; ))

  • this is an awesome vid! i usually do them with the comb part but i will start trying with the end! Btw, I have done it on curly caucasion hair and it works just fine, but i find that the best way to lock caucasion hair in neat sections is using the latchhook method

  • goddamn, why isn't there a 30 second video on how to tighten comb coils? Black women talk too damn much, it shouldn't take 5 minutes to explain this...

  • @almightystef The video is entitled "How to comb coil" so obviously it's a tutorial. She's not gonna rush through it, but rather take her time and show step by step how it's done for the benefit of those trying to learn the technique. Maybe you should search for a "How to tighten comb coils" video...jerk.

  • @AfroButtafly Yay, I hurt someones feelings on the internet!!

  • @almightystef ROFL! You would have to be important to hurt my feelings dear..FAIL

  • @AfroButtafly YAY I got another reply

  • what kinda gel do you use? love your hair :)

  • does ur hair have to b nappy to do it? my hair is permed n i want to do sumthin lik "tracie thombs's hair"

  • @sbgabrielle no, you cant do this hair style on anything other than natural african american hair

  • how long did it take for ur hair to get that long??

  • how many inches were your hair when u got it twisted

  • thank you soooo much for this video. 2yrs ago i got my locks started with this method. i just took my locks out because they were uneven and i wanted to start them myself with this same method i started b4. YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER THANK YOU!

  • @MsScorpiolady how long did it take for you to get your locks out and how long were they in for?

  • beautiful hair texture!

  • that's what's up... thanks for the instructions. I can't believe I've been paying someone to do this for me and this is something I can do myself

  • thanks for the video. this seem a bit easier then combing through the hair. combing through is faster but, i like this way better. i can't wait to lock my hair again

  • What is your hair style? do you do the same thing to do it?

  • Comment removed

  • how long do you leave your comb coils in?

  • that is sooo freakin neat. i've never seen comb coils acheived this way b/4. it seems a lot easier too. Thanks for the vid!!

  • never seen it done that way, good tip and you explain so well. Thank you

  • and is this how you get deadlocs or is this just a hairstyle:P?

  • @Joakimbrian1 dreadlocs**

  • it would go much faster and tighter if u used the comb part, placing it @ the root of the hair & turning clockwise...i do this everytime i wash my daughters hair....

  • Thanks so much for the video! I am the Caucasian mother of 4 African American daughters. My 4 year old has very short hair and i would love this style on her. Do you think this style is age appropriate for 4 years old?

  • @aford121 yes u would say the style is appropriate for all ages.

  • i have been natural for a year now and this is great info. tried it and it's going good, now i'm going to do my mom's hair like this too! i had to get a mirror to do the back though. thanx, look forward to more videos from you!

  • very cute hairstyle, how long did it take you to do your complete head?

  • great video...I just got my hair bc'd a week ago and did some coils last night....the front was great, not so sure of the back, but did the best I could!!!! LOL

  • Please see Chris Rock's movie Good Hair

all of us who take care of our hair have good hair... it's not something that comes from certain types of ancestry

  • Love your method of coils, will try, I will show a video, thanks.

  • cant u just do this with your fingers?

  • I have permed ends and I want dreads. I thought about the 2 strand twist method but now I'm thinking about comb coils. Can I still get comb coils with permed hair. I know if I do the big chop I will still have perm left over. Any advice?

  • Comb coils only works on natural hair, the straight hair will not hold the shape

  • @prestige334 ... i trying to start locks with relaxed ends too, i started with braid... my ends kept unraveling so now i'm interlocking and i think that would be best but im only a month in. Eventually i think i will cut off the relaxed end because it is so much thinner than the natural im just not ready to let it go

  • @prestige334 its not the big chop unless all the perm is gone...just DO IT! I did it. it was scary at first but then I went to the barber shop and got a shape up. It was awesome. From there you should get your comb coils or twist for dreads. Don't forget to keep your parts CLEAN! Its the world of difference for dreads.

  • my hair is way shorter than yours so where do i start?

  • you have an easy-to-love personality

  • what is a cold wash?

  • co-wash

    washing your hair w/ conditioner

  • She said Co-Wash. That's when you wash your hair with conditioner only. It has detergent in it so it's still being washed however you should still wash your hair with shampoo every once in while in order to get rid of build up

  • Hi.. it looks great!! I've got mixed hair and i'm trying to rasta dread it but is taking me ages and no much results....please...give some advise!!!!by the way u make it look so easy!!

  • H0w l0ng w0uld it take y00h t0 d0 ur wh0le head ma?!

  • I'm a middle-aged, balding caucasian who just surfed-in and watched your vid and found myself thinking "Boy, I wish I had hair like that." Of course, when you're middle-aged and balding you might settle for hair like an aardvark, but I still (strangely) enjoyed the tutorial enough to comment and give 5 stars (probably because of your personality).

  • wow thanks for the comment

  • this would not work on someone who is transitioning?

  • no it would not but you can roller set or straw set your hair, due to the straight ends

  • depends on how much natural hair you have. when you're done, the ends that aren't natural yet won't curl, so you have part curl part stringy. i tried it and that's what i got, but now i have all natural so it curls nicely. good luck!

  • Wow. I had no idea that it was done with that tail end of the comb. Silly me kept trying to figure out how stylist used the comb side while twisting thea hair.

Thanks so much for showing me how.

Do you sit in front of a mirror while twisting or over time can it be done without looking?

  • I soooo love your videos they are very informational. Thanks!

  • how long does this process takes?

  • took me about 1 hr and 45 min

  • that was a great tutorial not to long which is always good lol... now imma go try

  • omg so creative! i love it!

  • You are great at giving instructions. I laugh at myself when i think about how i was trying to do the coils. I just made some mess up. LOl. Keep doing your thing tho.

  • me too. i was actually using the comb part of the comb. it ws horrible

  • This is cool. I've never seen it done this way. I'll have to try this sometime.

  • love your videos! Thx

  • That is way too much work. LOL

  • u wana be hot .. then do it

  • How do you twist the back of your head? Do your arms get tired?

  • mirror and .. siblings haha or yoself

  • Were you able to do the back of your hair or did someone else have todoit for you?

  • i amazed myself and was able to do it but I started to do more of a finger coil when i started to get tired

  • thanks for such a great video...i'm going to try this next week!

  • thanks

  • loved ur video, my hair is bout 7 inches long, i am mixed with black and mexican but my hair is basically afro american.. i want dreads really bad cuz im sick of braids now nd i was wondering what method is best for starting my dreads?? and will my hair look alot shorter than 7 inches wen i get them?

  • i know you can start them this way, I dont know a whole lot about locs so i dont know how much shorter your hair will look. najahface has locs and might be of service to you

  • Yess thanks for this video

  • Can Aloe Vera gel b used 4 this?

  • yep

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you. it seems so simple but I couldn't get it. I'll try this tonight. I'll post picks to share with ya.

    Keep it nappy!

  • there's another way you can do it too.

the way cshellca is the way i've seen it done in a magazine. i think it'll have the same effect but idk

  • loved ur video

  • I just tried this and it works! I used a chopstick because its the perfect shape and the comb part doesn't get in the way. You might like a chopstick too and most of the time you can get them free or already have them :)

  • OMG I have a chop stick. I'm about to try. Thank you for this comment ( even though its not my video. lol)

  • I'm watching the video as i'm typing now. I just recently got a hair cut in december 29, 2008 so i can get a fresh start in growing my hair so far it only been 1 until march 1 then it will be 2 months when my hair get long enough is it good to start off with comb coils since my hair gonna be short

  • How long does this take? Are you able to do your back by yourself? These coils actually stay in long enough to form locs.. even after sleeping?

Oh, hi & nice vid, btw. ;)

  • depends on size and thickness of hair I think it took me two hours when my hair was this short. you can start locs from coils.

  • This is so cute! My natural hair is only 3 inches now...I dnt think I can accomplish this look yet.

  • does this dread the hair or can you wash it out?

  • u can use it to start dread or wash it out

  • Why isn't it working?!?!?!??!

If u can will u post another video?

  • NVM Got it on now.

  • I love you =) ty for makin this easier now I can do my locks on my own lol

  • I wanna do this!! I never tried this before!

  • I really needed this video, I can't wait to try. Your coils came out so professional looking!!!

    Thanks

  • I'm going to use this method when starting my dreads, thank you for showing me how to do it! :D I'll try to send you a picture like you asked. ^^

  • That is so cool!! I will definitely be trying this soon. Thank you :)

  • What does co-wash mean?

  • It means washing your hair with conditioner instead of shampoo.

  • Thank you for the help. I really want to try this myself and I am going to try it now. My hair is about that legnth right now... :)

  • how long will comb coils last??

  • i only keep them for 2-3 weeks, if you hair is like mine, it might lock if in longer

  • how do you do the back of you head

  • I'm a transracial adoptive mom to 2 young beautiful black American daughters, one has hair texture just like yours and I am SO THANKFUL to have found your videos! They're fun to watch, and I'm learning so much. I appreciate the way you show us how to care for the hair naturally, as this is my goal for my girls. Can I ask you how long it took you to complete all the coils? I'm wondering if my 2 year old would sit still long enough. Ok, I'm off to watch another of your videos now.

  • Too neat!!! My hair is almost 2 inches long. I wonder if I can do this.

  • Thank you for the tutorial! How long do you wear your finger coils before taking them out or doing a coil out? TIA.

  • i wear them for 2-3 weeks

  • Do you know if comb coiling is a method of dread locking hair?

  • Yes you can loc this way. I'm doing it right now because two strand twists looked crazy on my head.

  • you are great you make it look so easy ...I know it is but now I really know how to do it Thank You...God Bless You..:0)

  • You are great and you speak clearly. I love you videos.

  • I have never seen it doe this way. Nice!<3

  • WOW!!! I am transitioning from permed to natural hair....and am soo happy to see various tutorial videos on how to perform hair styles.... I appreciate it! Thanks :-)

  • Very cute!

  • i just can not do this!

  • Great video ;-)

  • Why didn't I see this video, before I spent 5 hours finger twisting my hair that seems so much easier.....I will try this next time...thanks for the very informative video I live in the A' also.

  • ii wiish ma haiir was stiill liike that ; stupiid relaxer

    :x

  • I've seen this done differently but this is so much easier. Thanks again for this informative vids =)

  • thank you i am coiling my hair tommorow thank you again god bless you

  • wow!! niccee!

  • Merci! Thank you for this video!

  • :-o it must take you FOREVER to put coils on your entire head..that is a very long process!!!

  • I usually take the time and do this method around my edges like three rows in, (i like them small) and then I finger coil the rest. I just did it last week and it took me about two hours

  • oh cool!

  • great technique!

  • I didn't know it could be so easy, I'll try this ASAP. You just gave me a great styling option. Thanks!

  • you have a cute face.

  • u just saved me alot of money THANK U

  • could i do this with like 1 to 2 inch hair so it wouldnt be as long as yours. like it would be stuck to my head.. not bouncy like yours.

  • Have you tried a straw set? If so could you post a video? I have been in transition for nine months. I am going to try the coils. Fingers crossed. Love your video. Thanks

  • I am too lazy to do a straw set but they are great transition styles

  • nice vid and coils !! could u tell me how to change the direction of my coils tho??

Thx and keep doin wat u do :)

  • change the direction that you twist

  • I live in Amsterdam and I love your video's. But I have question. I' ve had natural hair for almost 2 years now and my hair grow very fast. But there is a part of my hair that won't grow. It's a little on the middle of my head. Do you know what I can do about it?

  • i use boundless tresses for hair growth

  • how long does your hair have to be to do this hair style

  • i guess at least 3 inches, long enough to go on comb two times around

  • I love this video and you're so cute. Thanks for sharing this. I love your nappy head!

  • I love your video. Thanks for the great instruction.

Can you post a video on finger coils?

  • how long does it take to do all? can you wash it? for how long can you keep it?

    thanx

  • length of a movie and a few extra minutes I kept it for 2 weeks, and I would just clense the scalp with what ever agent you would use it you had braids, I wouldnt get the actual coil wet

  • How long was your hair in this vid? because im trying to figure out when should i start twisting...

  • Your video is great...and its so easy to see how to do the comb coils...and that IC Fantasia Gel is what I swear by girl. :)

Thanks so much for the vid.

  • welcome

  • Thanks because I could never grasp the comb coil concept. all the written instructions never worked in my mind. May try it some day. I do finger coils whenever I get to coiling.

  • ohhhh!

    now i know how!

i'll probably try this when i get time =) thanks for this

  • what is cowash?

  • washing with conditioner
