these are the best amps in the world. they compress perfectly. they crunch perfectly. the overdrive is creamy and even w/ lots of harmonics across the fretboard........not just in certain areas. and............they don't break down.
i been playing my 2 HARD for 13 + years. i still kiss it goodnight after every gig....&every night i'm still amazed at how much it positively affects the way i play.
Tried the Guytron.Love the clean channel and think it does a great mid gain. I get a nice lead tone but for a high gain rhythm tone, the GT 100 gets mushy when the gain control is pushed too hard.
The Guytron is an Vox AC15 front-end running into an on-board attenuator, then into a Marshall Super Lead back-end. When these start to sound a little "grainy" - replace the attenuator resistors. Graydon will send them to you.
The X-mod according to my ears is exactly like setting 2 and 2 on the F/V switches.
1 and 1 is the original Guytron tone. For those who don't know the X-mod "Marshalizes" the amp -mostly in the dirty channel. The cleans don't change as much. But for me I like the cleans better with the X-mod too. I've stuffed all the current tubes into the Guytron over the last 10 years (Svets/winged "C", JJs, EH, Yugos, Rubys, GTs, etc) and the NewSensor Mullard EL34s and EL84s and TungSol 12ax7 sound best.
I used to own a GT-100. I X-modded it myself. Then earlier this year -after owning it for over 10 years I traded it for an F/V. The key to this amp is having the EL84s biased correctly. If they are below 45ma you loose focus. For me it makes or brakes the amp. The original ones were cathode biased so most guys would have been stuffing EL84s in em without even checking this. But since rev C Guy added an adjustable negative bias along with a cathode resistor so you can dial em in.
@2204JCM The Rev B's where designed around Sovtek EL84s which can handle the voltage. Have Rev B for 12 years no problems. Llike to use in two or more amp setup.
You know what...I haven't even started looking at you vid, and I'd really like to thank you for posting this...I've been looking for a good one for a long time...
The cleans are the best of ANY amp, I would have to agree. Mine was x-modded and that probably made a big difference with the B channel. My amp will actually grind more than the Soldano's I've heard. That and the speakers I'm using really like the overdrive this amp puts out.
Very cool man!!! what speakers you use??? thx!!

If you like this amp, do check out the Cornford MK50 II.

I'd be curious to know how you think the Guytron stacks up against your other amps (Soldano, Fuchs, Matchless, etc.)

@Hifiphil
Crystal clean sound is the best !
also bit crunch sound for funk cutting. (with natural compression)
But Lead sound has no characteristic than others.
I'm satisfied with its clean sound only.

Great tone! I should know, I have one too. Has this one been x-modded or is it stock? thanks

Thanks for comments.
This GT100 has no mod, full original.
Clean sound is awesome.
