They used a much smaller Vancouver Coaster to use CGI to FAKE that it was tall and many loops. Actually the Mindbender in West Edmonton Mall Canada is closer to the one faked in the film and had a nearly identical accident in real life with stuff comming off the cars and rolling back down a loop and derailing.

Actually if you watch the beginning the with the black dude he had his restraint down but not down all the way so the rollercoaster guy pushed it down all the way and the hydraulics pushed too hard which caused them to fail, so they would of crashed anyway, the camera just helped the crash.
