toby, and all players of skyrim. lockpicks break in the direction u need to get to to open the lock. and how far they go in that direction depends how far away you are. for example if u try to unlock something and choose the left side, it might break, flying right. when you try the right side, u r much more likely to succeed. try it yourself!
