Michael is AWESOME as the ORIGINAL PHANTOM and CORNELIUS "achmed113". I've seen him in both! I love him so much though in Hello Dolly like you so I definetly think Mike rocks as much in this movie as he did as the Phantom.
Why did Hollywood ever think it was a good idea to stop making movies like this? I will never understand where they get some of their ideas. Some of the greatest Musical/Movie extravaganzas were made between 1960 to 1980 and ironically before the recent release of Hairspray the last production of this magnitude of talent also featured the late phenominal Gene Kelly and Broadway is finally giving it the recognition it deserves and that is Xanadu. We need these kind of movies back on screen NOW
Oh I wish I could randomly break out into a musical... but if I do that people at school look at me like I escaped from a mental hospital... *sigh* well I can dream right?
I saw this play at a local high school. It was so good! Like, Broadway, good! The girl who played Dolly was simply amazing! She is the best 17-year-old actress/singer I have ever seen! Great job, JFK high school!
Thank you MandZe so much. I love this song and I love Michael Crawford! Hes so adorable in this...."The lights of Broadway" (ironic since he would go on to become the Phantom), "Barnums Museum"( he would later play "Barnum" in London and win an Olivier ward for it). Talk about seeing into the future!
I actually saw this movie, and a local stage production of this show before Wall-e came out, so when I saw it in theaters and heard them singing this, I just got the biggest smile on my face. It was awesome.
Once me and Beth and Shanny were listening to this and then my nan (our nan sorry) came into the kitchen and saw the three of us goiung "WALL-E EVA WALL-E EVA!!! lol my nan was as white as a ghost!
I just want to thank Disney and Pixar for putting this song in Wall-E. I loved it and because of this film, it made me buy Hello Dolly and watch it.. and I love it! I never would have watched it otherwise which would have been a huge shame.
though I've never seen all of Hello Dolly!, i am a 'young person' and I love musicals of all kinds, as do the vast majority of my friends. I love Disney... it has in no way made me dislike other musicals because they're childish. Though many young people do have differing interests from other generations, I find that young people seem to be more and more interested in music in general. True, there are those out there who find musicals gay... but I wouldn't worry about musicals ceasing to exist.
Oh thanks sooo much for bring us the actual video clip. While I saw the dancing scene in Wall.e I thought "whoa, That's awsome!" Love the dances & the song. Any one who have more high detailed please tell me lots of thanks to the poster.
Against musicals? Do you know how popular the High School Musical movies are in the preteen demographic? Kids are not against musicals. They just don't understand the good ones, like Hello Dolly or An American in Paris. A new generation with new interests.
Oh, and Across the Universe came out last year. Hollywood seems to still be in touch with musicals, apparently. And that movie was enjoyed by a good portion of today's "young people". Both of you fail at generalizing and stereotyping.
I must agree with you. Sadly, most grown-ups just don't realize that a new generation brings new opinions and new interests. This leads to them judging the younger ones for their 'bad taste'. I obviously disagree with this point of view.
We should allow the youth to have their own opinions.
oh help. did you just call 'high school musical' a MUSICAL????!!!! i am a 12 yr. old kid. here is a list of what i consider 'musicals'
Hello Dolly (haven't seen it yet, but from this song i can tell)
The Phantom of the Opera (ROCKS!!!!)
West Side Story (DARN GOOD!!!)
Wicked (haven't seen it, but i have the soundtrack)
probably a lot more, but these are the only ones i can think of right now. but seriously. it was insulting to actual musicals to classify 'high school musical' with them.
i suppose so, but i was talking more about not by definition, but what it SHOULD be called. which is NOT musical. in my opinion, anyways. i think, more along the lines of
'strange pointless romance with a weak plot and tunes that, unfortunately, sound exactly like the kind of songs all the other kids like, which means that you might want to cover your ears.' if you like it, then i am sorry, i tend to speak my opinions a bit to strongly...so yeah, technically but nothing else.
At this time, though, this was the popular music.. so really it's the same. i am a disney cast member, but i can't stand high school musical. like many people, i wish it would just go away along with miley and the jonas brothers... Bring back the classics, in my opinion!!! but, still, high school musical would count as a musical if it has 3 or more songs in it. (i haven't been able to sit through the first 10 minutes so i don't really know)
I AGREE!!!!!! DIE DIE DIE!!!!!!!!! sorry...i get a bit out of control...Phantom of the Opera has had a negative effect on me...anyways, unfortunately, there are more then three of what is loosely termed 'songs'...i agree with 'bring back the classics' as well. THEY ROCK!!!!!!!!!! (well, most of them)
Hollywood stopped making them because they went out of fashion. It seems that most of today's young people have a built-in prejudice against musicals. Is that because it's unrealistic for people to break into song and dance in the middle of a conversation? Well, how realistic are today's action flicks, with their impossible stunts and CGI effects? Or is it because musicals are thought of as "gay"? Well, Gene Kelly was one of the greatest musical movie stars, and I'd say he was pretty butch!
I think today's kids are so against musicals because Disney showed up and completely ruined not only musicals, but animation as well. Don't get me wrong, I like Disney, but because of them most people see musicals as childish, garish, and ridiculous. It's kind of sad.
