@cryostation genetic testing has shown that albanians are much more closely related to the thracian group of peoples (thracians and illyrians same group) this map in wiki shows the clines of european genes. notice clearly greece has predominance of middle eastern genes, albania romania and northern turkey have thracian gene, as soon as you pass albania you get slavic gene. this shows albania pretty homogenous and very close to ancient homeland of illyrians, go to wiki type european clines

If Michael Collins had not been assassinated then Ireland could not have been neutral during WWII. It is sad that Ireland was involved in a civil war because of the treaty he negotiated. Michael was responsible for bringing negotions along with
England. He was also responsible for settling short thereby starting the Irish civil war.

The reason he had too accept it because of Eamon de valera.. he set Michael up to take the blame and shame of accepting the treaty. What Eamon de valera didn't know that Micheal was going to free the rest of Ireland from British control. Eamon de valera knew that Micheal was going to accept the treaty and knew there was going to be an Irish civil war in Ireland.

@paddycentered Personally, I think the cause of the civil war was ultimately the stupidity of General Maxwell in ordering the executions. I think Ireland could have negotiated its freedom in the same way that Canada, Australia and New Zealand had done, with guarantees for Ulster and and in a way that would have allayed Protestant fears. Canada got English and French to agree, after all :-) But the executions made moderation impossible. A needlessly stupid move.

There was never any true closure of the issues of British atrocity 60+ years ago, or the issues involving the North, which is an identity confused mess. There was a half assed apology by Tony Blair over colusion between paramilitary forces and the British armed forces, but thats about it. Has nothing to do with residence.
