IVe only ever seen one and thats one that i caught in idaho when i was 8.i was just digging and pulling apart a dead log and found it in there.but now i live in PA and theyre not around here:(
I cought one in central oregon! Reliesed it after we took pics. It was crossing the road in the evening and the temp was about 35 out. It was about 4.5 feet long and dark brown with yellow belly.
hah aw i catch those in my yard all the time but they dont eat in captivity at least no one i kno has been able to get em to eat so i just gota let em go :( suks cuz their so cool and so darn cute! haha
i praise you for feeding your snake dead mice. there are so many videos on youtube where people feed their snakes alive baby chicks and mice and stuff and it is just sad how much distress they have to go through before dying. thankyou for sharing your video with us, and for using an already dead mouse.
I caught one today and it is in my terrarium with a pinkie. Of course, it will be returned to it's exact home (underneath a board) tomorrow. But these things are fascinating! I've never caught a Rubber Boa before! Hundreds of Kingsnakes, Gopher snakes, and Ringnecks, but never a Boa! Thank you for uploading the video on youTube, so people can be exposed to snakes a bit more.
is it legal to keep rubber boas caught in the wild? how are their wild populations doing in the northwest? i've only ever seen one in my life. cool animals.
I agree! It's much better to obtain a captive bred specimen of not only snakes but anything you plan to keep as a pet. This specimen was taken as a live voucher in a scientific study to be used mainly for educational purposes.
It depends on the wildlife laws in the state you live in. Their populations appear to be doing fine within their range according to several papers I've read. They are difficult to find because of their cryptic coloration and behavior.
I haven't handled a rubber boa that didn't seem to enjoy it. They tend to wrap around (gently) any appendage that it's near. It seems to enjoy the warmth we give off and is quite content being carried around at length.
Rubbers are docile and appear to enjoy being handled. I often get it out of its enclosure and give it free reign which often ends up with it curled up inside my shirt. Loves the warmth! These snakes are excellent for anyone trying to get over a fear of snakes or to show kids.
You need to "Brain" your pinkies. See instructions at rubber boa . com

My baby Rubber boa has strange light blotches on her I'm not sure what it is. Do you know anything about it?
I can't find any other people who have Rubber boas
Ultimategrid 1 year ago
@Ultimategrid If your rubber boas a wild caught animal, then it's probably just scars. Hard to find a boa in the wild without them.

@Grimmhollow
Found out it's scale rot. I feel so horrible. So I forked over 300$ at the vet and got her some medicine.

and if you have other snakes you could get them sick if you get a wc
Fastydaddy 4 years ago
Beautiful snake for a WC, it certainly has had an easy life if it is WC, scarring is almost non-existant!!!!
Bottae are some of my favorite snakes, they are very personable, moreso than the traditional 'pet' snakes, also, extremely easy to keep.

This female was found in the Absoroka-Beartooth Mtns in Montana. It was taken as a field specimen in 2003 but later decided not to euthanize it.

Didn't buy it. Found it.

Strange snake, to say the least. Good quality, a bit sped up, but still good.
