  • Interesting how proud you are of a 30+yr old car. My dad sold it way back in the early 80s. It was a red 200D....replaced with a 60 HP tin can hatch. Oh it was petrol! lol...

  • The engineers at Mercedes were told to make the best car ever. After, they added 10% to the production costs to get a profit out of it.

Get your hands on a decent one, get rust protection, and you have a car for life.

  • i also drive a 200d with 1,274,000 km but it is getting more difficult to start it every day use a 100ah battery i think it,s surrendering after 33 yr

  • I have red one just like these but 200D. It's in my family since 1980 but "born" 1977. as I am! It passed 200000 km, nothing! I plan to keep that care because when I drive that care I drive all my nice memories, first girls and kisses (my wife doesn't know about that) ;-), one war we survived running away across forests and bad roads. Now we are free and mercedes is still with us, and now I'm the owner!

Best regards to all mercedes owners and those who just love that care!

  • 30D AMG !

  • I love these cars. I hope to buy one someday.

  • What the hell is he saying?

  • How about learning German? ;-)

  • Never imported? MB sold tens of thousands of these in the US. Check eBay or craiglist to see how many of these are still zooming around, 24 years after they went out of production.

  • Astrein! I've always been interested in caars with Diesel engine. I've never owned one, nor have I ever driven a Mercedes-Benz diesel car. I'm not interested in fast acceleration or fast top speed. But rather have a car that lasts longer and goes further than a tank of fuel. I love the styling of the W123. It's too bad that the 300D was never offered here in the USA or even North America in general.

  • Uhhh Hello? They sold hunfreds of thousands here in the US.

  • 1:02... AHHHHH!

  • Fast? I would rather be slow and last well past 500,000 miles! Diesel Power!

  • reliability is the key points of this car, simply the best car! can easily outlive today's cars.

  • Gotta love the mighty W123!!I'm on my second one now...wonderful cars! I wish I spoke German so I could understand what he's saying...

  • How do you say "awesome" in Deutsch? I love this video! I can't believe the 300D was never available in the United States with manual shift transmission, only with automatic! I prefer manual shift transmission, thank you.

  • i think you can say "Wunderbar" =D

  • Awesome in German is Astrein!!!!!!!!! I work for Mercedes here in Germany and these engines last over 1 Million Kilometers with no problems whatsoever. They are amazing. and the W123 is one helluva car.

  • I have W116 350 SE which made 1.100.000 KM

  • i got a 79 300D w123 with 3,000,000KM on 3rd engine/trans... ex-taxi

  • Dam no wounder I had so much trouble drifting mine XD still did it though just hella hard. These cars are the anti drift. and before anybody jumps on me I just did it a few times I normally take car of my old fart benz. would like to get a Indian turbo though and get it upto 91hp vs 65 I could use that extra 5 sec to 60 5 speed would be nice too. That would have been an awesome setup a 5 speed and a turbo on the Om616

  • Great vid!

  • Thank you for uploading!

  • Great post!

  • you buy a Caddy, im a proud owner of this wonderful undestructable machine.

  • I hardly doubt that ...

  • I would expect a caddy to be waaaaaaaaaaay faster than a diesel Mercedes.

  • Maybe but not a diesel caddy, haha

  • Im still driving my 2oo Diesel today after 32 years and 2 milion km it got out of the factory... true, not the fastest but i wouldn`d change it for 100 plastic cars like they make today . Best diesels ever, mercedes rulezzz

  • 2milion km got your car?

  • a former portuguese taxi (a 1988 300d W124) made more than 3 million KM and it is now in the MB museum

  • @apachioara thats amazing! i just bought my first car which is a -83 Mercedes w123 240D! it has run 335000kms and had sat outside for 3 years but fired up in 1 second with new battery! i payed around $70 xD hoping to have it for a long time..

  • @coolakiIlen007 maintain it well and it will give you twice that and more! Take it from an ex W123 taxi driver.

  • @jfv65 i will! :) sure they are the most reliable cars! everything works on it except the brakes and few more mechanicall details needs fixing, but fully driveble! i have a couple vids of ´´rescueing´´ it from where it sat. will be putting up more as time goes :)

    thanks for your comment!

  • In 1976, it was the fastest Diesel car ever made, with 80 HP ! Despite my fucking poor Deutsch, that was a pleasure to se that Test ! I also want the same for de gasoline version...

Quand on pense qu'à l'époque, c'était le Diesel le plus rapide du monde... Malgré mon faible niveau d'allemand, c'est un plaisir de voir ce test. A quand le même pour les versions essence?

  • Fantastico! but I want the gasoline version............
