I think it's a date, sex, break up thing all done in nine and a half minutes with scenes cut out to make it simpler. It's a very common Drama technique. Cutting out the crap and keeping in the key factors of what the whole acting piece is about. Hope this helps to anyone who doesn't understand it. (:

I guess the look they share of longing at the end can also be interpreted that they would never really have known how those 3 months would've turned out had they taken the time to get to know each other. Or would they have split up anyways, just as imagined. Bottom line: Maybe speed isn't everything?

They just took this idea and extended it. So the two of them imagine within 9.5 minutes what their 3 months would've been like (this was her idea of saving time). Date, movie, a heated affair in the dark. Since he assumes they would've split up, they split up. Basically this movie was 3 months in a nutshell. She saves 3 months of her time and goes back to doing whatever business she needed to attend to.

So the blind dates are to get hooked up with someone right away (basically). The two characters (or at least the girl character) doesn't want to take the time to go through the process of courting someone just to get on the date. The girl answering her cellphone is just to reiterate the fast-paced times we live in. Everyone is busy and no one has the luxury of time anymore.

I think it's trying to show how the era we live in focuses on speed and efficiency. (But then again, this movie might not be a social commentary anyways...It might just have taken this idea and played around with it.)
