Pretty sure the "rock face" or "rock moves" are the least of his worries, playing the music and the way that he does. He's a respectable musician who rocks hard and lays great foundation, who's to say that his way of expression is any worse than another's? It's an honest expression of who he is, no need for better or worse.
@stitcha123 - It may be worth noting that I have not, nor likely will I ever, release an instructional DVD called "Mastering Rock Moves And Faces". :-) (and yes, this is me)
@stitcha123 If you're using this as an example, I believe he's not moving around much *exactly* because it's an Instructional DVD and seeing R & LH hand positioning is a large part of spending one's money on it (I already have :-) and it's appears to be shot on a soundstage with no audience and I'd imagine it's hard to get "the juices flowing" playing for cameras & crew members. Check out Vai's, The Mike Keneally Band's, Bryan's own band release DVDs or Dethklok live videos here: he can Rock.
Perhaps you could make an instructional dvd where you show the world how to improve your "rock moves n face"? Are we talking the typical foot on monitor stand or are you taking this shit even further? And what is a good rock face? The good old "get off my lawn" angry face? Please enlighten us - we're just a bunch of lame geeks who are all wrapped up in the art of laying down a solid groove. Silly sods we are.
In my 20+ years as a Bassist (a fair amount of those at the "semi-pro" level of studio recording & live gigging for various artists and actually getting paid for it!) Bryan's been *the* major influence for positive changes in my personal playing style over the last decade. All of the topics he describes on the DVD (tweaking tone, playing different styles of music, and executing difficult material) are ones I've gained from learning his material, & there's no better teacher for these topics!
what kind of bass is he using?
