  • Vangelis is under-rated

  • Great video! Vangelis is the best!

  • Shame the movie sucked !

  • The movie was terrible, but Vangelis is absolutely fantastic.

  • por fin estoy conociendo al hombre mas talentoso de este tiempo, regio

  • Ahh Vangelis... you are a keyboard GOD!

  • when you think you don't act, when you act you don't think

  • oh dear, our royal highness, Vangelis is the homer of the music!!!!!!

  • Vangelis is the master. I have loved some of his music even though i did not know he was the composer. Sounds crazy , i know

For instance. I did not know he composed the theme to COSMOS. But it captured me then.

  • He is the music.

  • He is a MASTER.

  • BUT when it comes out a new album of Vangelis? And when we have a web site with some decent music video for his improvisations? Why Vangelis is so private? Vangelis made to feel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have to teach music to future generations !!!!!!

  • Watching this video, I just realized that in over 25 years as a fan of his music, this is the first time I've ever heard him speak!

  • Vangelis has done more for Greece and the promotion of Hellinism than all the goverments we've had put together since he started creating music!

  • Vangelis please... Grant us music as when you were young.

  • where do all youre vangelis clips come from?

  • I think Vangelis is a messenger of the gods to delight us with its majestic scores and compositions which leave their soul and simply reflect the lineage that comes from sua famous direct ancestors. One of our contemporary composers, which must be enjoyed in life. You're the best and I am grateful to life the power to breathe the same air as you. Great Man!

  • @iluminatti1 todos somos un poco de mensajeros de algo. soy argentina

  • @iluminatti1 fantastic comment I think the same way about Vangelis! I've been listening to his fantastic work since I was 5 or 6 years old!!

  • Vangelis, é um abençoado! Veio ao mundo para entreter com seu talento. Parabéns

  • @evangelis80 es un telento como pòcos

  • He is the best!!!

  • LMAO...at 1.02 Alexander has a startling resemblance to Kevin Peterson the English cricketer when he looks peed off on the cricket field.

  • What happened to the guy? He just physically fell apart. He used to be so good looking, not so long ago. Looks like he has skin cancer now. All that money, can't he take better care of himself?? :(

  • lol hes 67 years old now, what did u expect?

It will happen to all of us.

  • I like this genius guy and his work in music.

  • Very interesting video. Vangelis is great and he is unique. I love his style of music.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • 20000 pounds of gear! god bless u Vangelis... i could do your.. theme with one EMU PROTEUS. synthesizer...and yet i sit here in my studio, broke and jobless..you are the chosen one of us.. be humble my friend!

  • Alexander = GAY

    Vangelis = GENIUS

    ^o^

  • Very Nice Interview of the Master Vangelis

  • You greeks should listen to Vangelis and then take back Constantinopel and everything that the turks have taken away from you !!!!

  • @TinyArts MICHAEL TSARION IS THE WORLDS PREMIER CONSPIRACY RESEARCHER/LECTURER/AUTHOR. DR. BILL DEAGLE AND JORDAN MAXWELL ARE HIGHLY INFORMATIVE AS WELL. P.S. MELTING EUPHORIA IS A PSYCHEDLIC HIOLISTIC PROG ROCK BAND THAT IS NOW DEFUNCT BUT HAS FOUR STUDIO CD'S AND ARE SIMILAR TO OZRIC TENTACLES AND GONG.

  • We shall but as you might know, patience is a virtue. We are just waiting for the right time.

  • And how do you move 12 million out of the region?

  • (continued) It is basicaly an advanced ,realtime programable arppegiater/sequencer where you can feed a arp pattern into the machine and instantly have it up and running + you can set up to 8 of these arppegiator patterns to react to each other. So if you change you playing or anything else in one pattern the other patterns will follow this change under certain predetermined rules. :The knobs control octave and other things. No sub menues:) ....damn, I would love to have this system:))

  • Love his music and his thoughts and "live" approach is a great, great inspiration.

@ UrbanCrunkMovement: Those boxes each ciontrol a synthesizer or sound module and is part of his DIRECT system that he developed himself with the help of 2 or 3 enginers, one of them is Bill Marshall who has been trying for years to get his kind of "live" system on the market but with so far no succes.

  • "Music that opens human conscience, with driving force of the Universe." I believe with Vangelis, to make the music very inspiring.

The movie portrays Indian Women welcomes the arrival of Alexander the Great.

Vangelis seems serious, but timelessly beautiful!!

  • Philippines and other South-east Asian were not recorded in history. Correct me if it is recorded.

It begins in 1521 the discovery of Philippines by Portuguese explorer Magellan. If Alexander discovered India, then it follows the Western influence in Asia.

    (European first flourished in BC).

Btw, I prefer synthesizer to traditional piano.

  • @Itherean

Exscuse me, India existed for 4000 yrs. What do you mean by saying that Alexander discovered it. Buddha was born in India in 625 B.C which was about 200 years before Alexander was born ! I do not know about Phillipines but please do not talk about South Asia becuase it was recorded way back thousannds of years ago. The westerners won't know about it as they were not civilised during those days.

Their civilisation starts only with the Greek Civilisation !

  • @Itherean ( 2nd part)

Egypt, Persia, India and China existed many thousand years ago. So please do not distort history but go to the Library and do some reference, please ! Do not be ignorant.

Alexander did not discover anything. He only conquered territory which was already discovered by the Persians !

  • @sahajad Taj mahal is an Indian property but its architecture and Design belongs to Arab Culture. Almost All the greatest architecture in India is attributed to Islam. India doesnot have any Great architecture of itself constructed by Hindus. Hindus were Hut, slum village dwelling ppl lacked education, lived in superstition, worshipped tree Gods, who wer civilised only after Arab and British Entered India. They were typical villagers just like today 60% of Indians live in Rural Areas.

  • @javed2783 ( 1st part )

Arab's do not have much of a culture coming from the bedouin tents of the dessert. They only lived in tents and that is all. You have go tall facts mixed up. The Taj Mahal has got the Persian architecture which was brought to India by the Persians. ( who were originally Zoroastrians until the Arabs forced them to change their religeon ).

India had different types of architecture before that. Look at Buddha Gaya during Lord Buddha's time ( 625 B.C ).

  • @javed2783 ( 2nd part )

If you go to the very North of India you will still see these ruins of the early architecture that existed during Buddha's time and then you can analyse how the great palaces , parks and ponds were built. Most of them are in ruins now due to the invasions by Alexander's troups and also the Persians. But still you can analyse the ruins carefully.

Come to Sri lanka and also see its 2,200 yr old ruins that belonged to the anceint kings !

  • Vangelis is my inspiration... I like music because of he.

  • Vangelis is Vangelis, the greatest composer of all...

  • I don't believe VANGELIS is God, but a Superman.

  • "Music is the driving force of the Universe"

    Evangelos Odissey Paphatanashiou.

  • VANGELIS IS GOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anyone know what some of the gear shown here is. I know the yamaha synth but what are those little boxes he seems to have a whole bunch of with the red lights and the 3 black knobs?

  • its his custom made equipment.. used for instantly accessing and changing whatever sounds he wants.

since the late 80's he has had his "direct" equipment so he can change things as quick as possible , and these modules are probably the current version of it .

  • That's mind boggling. Custom made by whom? Is it at all MIDI related? and to what synths does it change the parameters?

  • Vangelis is BACH of his Time :),, from Syria I salute you Vangelis !

  • @soozar77

    I agree,

Bach was far beyond of his time, as well.

  • "Zeus still with us!!!" I love that moment when Vangelis starts playing his keyboard. I miss synthesizer version of this soundtrack.

  • Thats "Zeus be with us" actually.

  • Thank you ;)

  • vangelis said, GOD said ,that ........

  • Greece !!! The craddle of western civilisation !

  • Greece is such a small country... only 10 millions citizens... vangelis is one of them.

  • the soundtrack was pretty good!

  • Greece is such a small country... only 10 millions citizens... but it has so so many important people...vangelis, you are one of them.

  • It seems like 2 out of every 4 Ancient Greeks had something to do with how the modern world was shaped haha.

  • But I wish if the Greeks were still followers of their Old religeon instead of shifting to Christianity.

The greeks Gods were similar to the Hindu Gods of India. The Greeks are centred around Zeus at Mt. Olympus and the Indian gods are centered around Shiva from the Himalayan mountains. So if the Indians can still follow their 4000 yr old religeon, it is a pity that the Greeks could not do the same !

  • You can blame Constantine the Great and the Romans for the Greeks shift in religion.

  • Mainly the Romans I should say.

Anyway originally the Romans were cute since they put the Christians to the Lions ! It is a pity that we do not have much Lions nowaday !

Anyway I am not anti- Christ becuase I respect him. But I am sad that Christianity was spread through out the world through foul means !

  • Yeah I can't say I'm a big fan of the Crusades.

  • @sahajad even if your comments is 2 years old i will tell you something because you judging without know everything...in Ancient Greece they never exist a relegion...in modern call in 12th gods...they were thousands of thousands gods..Greeks have temples for them to honor them cause they save them from the titans, nephilims etc they honor them as heroes...they honor them like we Greeks of modern day honor the heroes of the revolution of 1821 in ancient Greece believe to the the one and only God

  • @Oblivion1821 stop improvising

  • @rasputin1917 i am not improvising i say some facts after of 10years researching everything... faggot and am not sheep like you that learn history from holywood..and what is this "stop" improvising...threat,warning who you thing you are you little scum...go back to your cave now

  • @Oblivion1821 carry on dreaming, you sound like the typical offended RAYIA, unworthy of any Greekness. With your over-exadurated statements, you are just publicly making a fool of yourself. Your "Greek" citizenship - if you have any - should be revoked forthwith

  • @rasputin1917 the only one who dreaming is you my "friend"you sound like a typical dumb sheep that he doesnt have read not even one book in his life...the only one who make fool or your self is you...my Greek citizenship is perfect unleess you british boy you will still remain a barbarian forever before you speak about my citizenship return back the stolen glypshs of your barbarian thief ancestor elgin and then reply me again go back to your cave now...

  • @sahajad they exist some anicent Greek prophesys from "Siviles" 4000 B.C prophesys that talk about everything about jesus christ and that he is the true and only God that will come to save humanity

  • @Oblivion1821

O.K. You may be a Christian fanatic but please do not distort history or deny the ancient Greek God's. The ancient Greeks wers not only heroes but they were worshipped by the people with temples etc the same way you Christians do today.

The worship of the Greek God's on Mount Olympus is similar to the worship of the Hindu God's of India on the mountain of Himalayas. The only diffrerence was that the Christians could not destroy the Hindu Gods.

  • @sahajad fanatic christan bfff you kiding me??trust me i am Greek and i know few things that you dont know i respect your opinion and i like that you respect the ancient Greeks...and because some East fanatic"christans"destroy the ancient Greek temples etc...doesnt mean that it was jesus christ fault the hindu gods that you describe that are look like ancient Greek gods actually they are the same gods with other names for example in north europe the God Thor was Apollon

  • lol at the anti greek comments

  • no kidding lol.

  • mediocre film IMO, but outstanding soundtrack.

  • VANGELIS IS GOD

  • Vangelis, Te AMO!!!

    jeje

  • Magnificas melodías, magníficos arreglos, altamente melódicas; Sin duda, un gran maestro de la música instrumenta. Poesía para el alma.

  • Vangelis really outdid himself with this soundtrack.

  • la mejor musica que me ha entrado por las orejas , de siempre , ha sido la de vangelis.

el mejor de todos los tiempos, por calidad y cantidad........sin duda alguna

  • The beginning sounded like it shouldn't have made sense. But it was actually really true.

  • Vangelis is a genious!

  • vangelis tends to be a Philosopher of Music & he dives into the keyboard as he scores a film, Alexander is the Pinnacle of Vangelis Work

  • In my opinion, the soundtrack to 'Alexander' was absolutely breathtaking;

  • androoow mate i apologize for using a bad language for my first comment.second thing...i could do a chord progression analysis for you to show that he practically uses same chords over and over...only some times he changes the position in wich he takes the chords

  • Vangelis is the Greatest Legend of Music !!

  • what a stupid comment! ,... both Vangelis and Hans are amazing artists , yet you have to bring them down to a " i'm better than you" level!! tell your comment to Hans and i'm just see how he would reply to you.. Grow up!

  • whilst you are truly entitled to your opinion.. if you listened all of Vangelis's publicly available music from the 70's to now , you would hear a Vast variety that would invalidate that statement.. recently i would agree that the sound palette he uses is similar..but then the same is easily, if not more so said for Hans.. i love them both..

  • @androoow lol... mr zimmer is the less innovative composer of the modern soundtrack era, his chord progressions are the same since 1980

  • @havox84 A stupid comment, every artist has their own style and if they stick to it its up to them. You may as well say blue should try to be red or green should try to be orange. Blue hasn't changed much since i caught on to it but i still like blue........

  • @havox84 A stupid comment, every artist has their own style and if they stick to it its up to them. You may as well say blue should try to be red or green should try to be orange. Blue hasn't changed much since i caught on to it but i still like blue........

  • @havox84 Hahaha I don't care how old this comment is, it cracks me up. I love Hans Zimmer don't get me wrong, but most of his scores are literally the exact same notes in the same. Gladiator - Pirates of the Caribbean in particular have bits of music that are IDENTICLE to one another. hahaha and Vangelis who has spanned untold styles over his immense career is repetitive. Please.

  • what a stupid thing you are saying, man

  • Hans Zimmer is a soundtrack composer dummie, vangelis is a real musician , you just listen vangelis music from the movies , vangelis composed much more than soundtracks!

    Vangelis pwns Hans Zimmer!

  • @havox84 HAHAHAHAHAH...moron!

  • @havox84 you know shit about music. Are you american or english?

  • greece is nearby to macedonia, but the time is long ago.

  • The real Macedonia is in Greece man. Modern Day Macedonia isn't even in the Ancient Region. They're in Paeonia.

  • all of that ancient stuff is pretty much far back in time. someone gave me crap for saying what i said earlier, but somehow my original comment is missing. i said "how fitting to have a greek composer do the soundtrack" and someone rubbed it in my face that alexander was macedonian. i made the above comment and people hate it, so what. makes no sense.

  • This composer gets it. What a creative mind he has.

  • Magnifique...une merveille...!

    merci beaucoup.

  • @saulpleureur si es una maravilla

  • What's that small instrument he's using? 8 over the keyboard n' 4 more to the right. Can somebody tell me about it?

Vangelis is one of my hero-composers.

  • i believe its part of his custom made sampler plackback devices linked /part of his " DIRECT " setup..so he has instant access to changing the sounds hes using in an immediate way, rather than via menus on commercially available stuff.

  • 2:04-2:48

  • chariots of fire

  • .....um.. no its Alexander.

  • the best of Alexander the Great is the Angelina Jolie and Vangelis...

  • I think the movie was good. Maybe because i have read about alexander the great for almost 10 years. I'm not representing a nation like macedonia or greece, were "of course" the people wanted a new version of braveheart. Facts wasnt that interesting, they wanted some kind of movie that could awaken the nationalism. Lets face it ! He was homosexual but that word didnt even excist in those days. Sins, jesus and popes werent invented yet.

  • since you are reading about alexander the great for over 10 years, you must know that Alexander was Greek, living at the greek region called then and now makedonia,as leonidas was greek, living in Sparta, again a greek region...Improve your studies friend...

  • Hmm what is your point? I know that.

  • Gah anyone has the movie version of Drums of gaugamela?

The OST version sucks compared to the one in the movie.

It´s the same but more detailed and longer and I want it =P

  • Yeah, but that was back in the 90s. And now is 2009. His last albums were recorded in Athens.

By the way, you could check out Youtube videos of Vangelis in his Paris Epsilon studios and compare his equipment with what is shown to us here...

Anyway, let's wait for the new album ;)

  • Yay Hay!! The Master!!

  • MY 2 favorite co-Greeks!!!!!

  • chariots of fire still the best score of all time, but there is not a person who goes to the cinema who does not get the thrills from this man

  • What synt is he playing in this film?

  • Lots of them, but in the background to his right in the interview is his favorite..the yamaha CS-80.

  • The film is pure shit, the music no.

  • Fantastic music.. Fantastic instruments - was that his famous Yamaha CS80? Still there?

Does he still use it and his Korg PS3300???

But my favourite is still "Chariots of Fire"

Great music with that element of Faith and honouring God.

    God Bless!

  • hes lucky, he gets to see all the new box office movies before we do lol

  • yeah but without the music

  • DEAR, GREAT AND STRONGER VANGELIS.

  • Dear Vangelis, hope you are in best condition, this was a unique miracle what god gave us. RE.Day is near!

  • anyone knows wich kind of synth modules are those seen at 0:27 and 0:35?

  • they are his custom built modules , prob evolved /linked to his "direct" box system..i'd guess they contain samples/sounds that give him the immediate control he needs that commerical stuff cannot provide.

  • thank you, any info about the company/technician who produced this system?

  • It is not the Equipment, it is what you get out of it....

  • how can your comment be any usefull??!!!

i just wanted a technical information you Synt Messiah

  • lol

  • Absolutely phantastic score! I wait that the uncut-version of ALEXANDER (ALEXANDER REVISITED) will be released in Germany to hear more music of this VANGELIS score. MY PRAYER GOES TO SONY MUSIC TO RELEASE A 2-CD-DELUXE-SET OF THIS SCORE, THERE WOULD BE ENOGH RECORDINGS TO RELEASE THAT! I only can recommend his other masterpieces like "1492", "Blade Runner 3-CD-Box-Set" and "El Greco" (2008th Soundtrack released in Greece, only!). Phantastic filmmusic, also! - Great Regards from Germany

  • Loved the music (as every music scored by Vangelis) but the movie was just shit

  • Greek for a Greek artist

  • just think how amazing it would sound performed live by acoustic instruments and a choir

  • maybe you should listen to some other of Vangelis''s work before saying something like that!!! A lot of the Alexander music WAS done by live orchestra and choir, and imo it pales in comparison to his synth/sampler work and synth/sampler and choir work ( 1492 for example)

  • i wasnt saying it was bad. i like vangelis. it was an awesome score that i would be interested to hear without the added synth. (nothing wrong with synth just want to hear both versions)

  • i too wish there were two versions, i've said before i would love to hear his original "guide" version of the score when he's in his improv mode just playing the synths and"composing " it. Audio Sotware companies need to develop a "remove synth" filter :)

  • they say that he composed much more material for the film (vangelis worked over a year with stone) but as the film didn't succes in USA, they decided to put only one cd, i like the soundtrack but i would prefer a full sinths work....

  • I've always loved is beautiful, triumphant music!

I especially love the song, 'Young Alexander' from the score.

  • You can keep Vangelis' shamelessly derivative later output. There can be no heart and soul in a sampled choir and horn section, and I suspect he knows that really. Go back to Vangelis' pre-1985 work and you will hear a talented Composer in his natural habitat - and it can be wonderful.

  • when u listen to any mp3 or a CD your listening to sampled choirs, horns and everything, how do u think the sound comes from them?..so to make the statement about no heart and soul from a sample is somewhat bizarre!..some people can use analog synths and sound heartless and souless..it's What u do with the equipment that matters. I agree Vangelis's earlier work sounds different from newer stuff but then i find Anthem and Mythodea 2 b lacking and they were done with a real orchestra and choir!

  • Film producers should request more soundtracks from Vangelis. He is much, much better than some pathetic american composers.

  • whilst i agree Vangelis is better or maybe a better way to put it is different to many other composers...why should you single out American composers?? your remark borders on being racist for singling them out!!

  • That was not my intention..I´m just bored of the same things made by american composers..

  • i agree with you, but he refuses a lot of soundtracks, besides he want to have liverty to do what he wants, (and vangelis can do that) i would like to have the missing and bounty soundtracks, but as i said he choose what he want to do....

  • he's a great composer...

  • Thanks for posting this. Cool interview. Not my favorite Vangelis score, but that's probably because the movie was crap.

  • Conquest of Paradise was horrible movie but that is my favorite score. I did enjoy Chariots of Fire though.

  • Love the power of that big black horse he rides past his men on from 0.29. Awesome scene. Great looking animal.

  • does anyone know what the music was called when he was wounded and said men were going home i cant seem to find it? when hes placedo n a horse and sees his dead father

  • I GOT IT !!! contacte me and I'll send you the mp3 files...besides, I've got the whole unreleased music !!!!!

  • AWESOME GREEKS !!!

  • ALEXANDER and VANGELIS

    VANGELIS and ALEXANDER

The glorious past and the wonderful present

    My two special co-Greeks!!!!!!!!!

    "Vangelis scores Alexander"...seems so natural......

  • Yes, there is no other who could have scored this movie than Vangelis. The music of Vangelis is indescribable, just as Alexander was.. They are two Greek heroes.

  • Thank you, Wolfhead! I appreciate this! ;-))

  • too bad the movie sucks balls. Hey Stone, hes called Alexander THE GREAT for a reason. hes not a wuss whos right hand commander looks like a woman. And whats with this "new world order" crap people keep shouting about?

  • Well said...the scene where Alexander is riding triumphant into some city and his right hand commander gives him that girly lovers look....made me want to puke. I dont mind in those days there was some funny stuff going on but lets just make the movie with Alexander as a real man. We can let slide the boy lover nonsense for documentaries. The action battle scenes were great but the close relationship stuff...was hard to get over.

  • I love this talented musician

  • However, 'Alexander Revisited - The Final Cut' is the best that you can have from this extraordinary movie. Stone is not against the New World Order, it's what's brewing behind it in which he doesn't agree with, and she shows it through the inhuman and superhuman Alexander character. With 'Nixon', the third version is his masterpiece.

  • Hollywoodian tycoons are briefed by the C.I.A, and the U.S. Secret Services, don't be fooled by their ethno-ideological art !

  • new world order : through the psychic power of the lens ...

  • this film is an artistic piece of perfect hollywoodian brainwashing in order to make people accept unconsciously the new world order !

  • How?

  • where can i get all the tracks? im afraid the cd is not for sell in portugal and im not buying it on net. i only have the end music the called "Titans"

  • where can i get all the tracks? im afraid the cd is not for sell in portugal and im not buying it on net. i only have the end music the called "Titans"

  • Yes, you can find it in Portugal. I've bought it there. Try Fnac.

  • lol ok obrigado pela resposta maas podias ter falado portuges. ok hei-de tentar na fnac, obrigado

  • ...for the glory of Greece
