@MrIglaq Dervishes are Sufis, who believe in a mystical approach within the Islamic faith. Mystical in the sense that they believe they can directly find union with God , and whirling is one method they use to do that. The word "dervish"¨comes from the Persian¨"darvish" which means door, because dervishes were holy men who would beg from door to door.
The petal, her bloom undulate to the dance of her lover, her facets unborn til his gentle caress. Rose bud, she kills me softly, till the nightingale announces my demise, and caressing moonlight overtakes mehs by surprise.
@hassan561 the tall hat is made of camel’s hair, and called "sikke". It represents the tombstone of the ego, and the white skirt represents the shroud of the ego. The point being, to leave the ego behind and enter into communion with God.
Mevlana says : ''I'm faithful slave of the holly Koran and I'm the dust on the path of Hz.Muhammed. If anyone quotes anything except this from my sayings, I'm quit of him and outraged by these words.''
In the Last Sermon of mohammad :All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black, nor a black has any superiority over a white- except by piety and good action.
Anyway people no matter where he lived he was a true persian you can not deny all of his books are in Farsi ( persian language) but let us say all men equal and he belonged to all of us.
he mite be persian genetically but in konya turkey he became a mevlana dont forget u guys this ottoman king helped him an his father.. u guys stop hating.. he is anatolian.. when he moved he was a kid... rumi started being rumi in turkey anatolian sufism
no brother at the ancient world the area that today call QUNIA in today tukya contry with same other placeses called RUME and when molana immagered from BALKH province of KHORASAN he considered in that places and start his teaching in there since he has dead
the reason why he is called ROOMI OR RUMI is because history writers would call all the small Asia territory, ROOM( which is the today Rome, Roman empire). Rumi or Roomi means a person from Room. now MOWLANA or MOLANA and MOWLAVI are other nicknames that he got because he was MOWLAVI E BALKHI (his students called him MOWALA and called his father, MOWLANA e BOZORG ,the great MOWLANA).
He was never from Turkey. He was born in BALKH , old persia ( and today's Afghanistan). His father moved to Ghooniye (or Konya) to stay safe from the Moghul attack in Persia.Rumi was 18 at that time.
Turkey was under the control and territory of Roman Empire at those days. old roman empire got divided to eastern and western roman empire in 395 AC. western Roman empire extinct 80 years after. Eastern Roman empire with the capital of Istanbul (constantinopole) stayed until 1071 AC.
nice but wrong names. its not Mevlevi!!! his complete name is : Molana jajaleddin mohammad balkhi. his nickname was Mowlavi, Roomi or Rumi. it is not sema dance. it is Samaa dance. you gotta remember , u simplify things in Farsi, things will go wrong... with diffeent meanings.
I dont know where u have got this name from sweetheart, but since i was born and speak in the same country that he did.....we ve never ever called him or written his name as Mevlana.. it sound funny in Farsi. go ask anyone you want. and rumi was his nickname again not his last name...
also for more info i am going to write the correct spelling of his name in FARSI which is the language of his original book and lets see how that sound:
There seems to be a war of linguistic alphabet going on here. Maulana/Molana should be the spelling in english, whereas Mevlana is the spelling in Turkish. Same with Jalaleddin/Celaleddin, Balkhi/Belhi, and Rumi/Roomi.
His actual name was Jalaleddin/Celaleddin Balkhi/Belhi with the title of Maulana/Mevlana and since he started associating with the former Rum, he was called Rumi/Roomi.
I dont believe you man... you are writing in Farsi, but your translation is WRONG....why are you so ignorant? at least respect the language... IT IS FARSI, AND IT IS MOWLANA JALAL ALDIN MOHAMMAD ROOMI
and no he was not born in Konya, he went there with his father when he was 18...please read history and respect Rumi if you are his fan.
Mesnavi does not mean seven skin , it is a STYLE OF POETRY IN PERSIAN LITRITURE , IT MEANS "IN PAIR"
This is a beautiful video..I love the video editing. It really illustrates the dance movements and elegant fabric..Wonderful!! Thank you for sharing :)
The ones who should knew this must have been the whirling dervishes who are trained at this behaviour. We all Mevlevi Order folowers admit to Rumi's words as, 'be like your appearance (image), or appear like yourself.'
I still wish the best for Atilla. But trying to be something that you are not is not right as we are told.
This causes more problem to the Mevlevi order than he does. Because this means that anyone can arrange a group of their own and use the Mevlevi communities name for their sake & personal benifits. The tolerance of the community, mevlevi order & culture should not be used like this to cause more expediency.
I only can say that the video editing is nicely done. The whirling dervish on this video is Atilla who were in our mevlevi group, but someday he gave up our mission or he might be thrown out of the group. I can't comment on this. Let's assume he has left with his own will. A while after that, he started his own group and performances, without consulting to the Majors of Mevlevi community & society or his Master to do something like this.
May i learn what did he do about his mission?? Why did you say that he might have been thrown out of the group??? You said that you still wish the best for him. But you have said negative things about him in all of your writings... I'm sorry. I am a bit confused...
Atilla, he was a good friend of mine. As i said, i had known him. I said that 'he might have been thrown out of the group', due to i was not at the exact place to tell wether he gave up with his own will or he got thrown out. And in your question of 'May i learn what did he do about his mission?',Please do ask clear questions & help me to tell what you want to know? I am not a part of his acts. So i can't say anything about his mission today.
Your post has no related issue about mevlevi order, our Master Rumi or anything else. it's just a good advertisment of Christianity. I'd like to inform you that no matter thier religion beliefs, many Jewish & Chrsitian leaders attended to the ceremory to carry Mevlana J. Rumi's coffin to his grave due to their respect to him.
first of all, tolerance is so important in mevlevi culture. the thing that you wrote is not a good sample for tolerance. As you know, dervish lodges are closed in 1925. Therefore, nobody can be "thrown-off" from the mevlevi society. besides, who has that mission to throw somebody off? this writing is not a perfect simple for your culture's tolerance. I wonder that if you are also a dervish, how can you say these things? By the way,i am not that guy. i am only a lover of mevlevi's.
I can say that he had tried to be something that he is not, and he acted that way. Thank you for your support & interest in us, but you have to know that every apple tree has an apple with worms in it. You do not distroy all apples, you just throw that wormed apple away to avoid the worms spreading. This has nothing to do with the apple. Totally the guilt of the worms in the apple. I still have good thought about him, but he doesn't follow the Orders of Mevlana anymore.
I am sorry. what i couldn't explain? There is nothing more to discribe. we are a basket of apples. We got rid of an apple who had wrong beliefs (Being someone that he is not.)in his mind (full of worms that should not spread to other apples). This is clear as his fault.
this guy is not a dervish. he is just a fake one who cheats the tourists in Istanbul. he is not bound to any of the accepted spiritual masters since he is a "thrown-off" from the Mevlevi society. I wonder one thing: might it be the reason that you loved this "dervish" so much because that "dervish" in this video is you?
What is the name of this music? Is it available on Itunes?

I died from minerality and became vegetable;
And From vegetativeness I died and became animal.
I died from animality and became man.
Then why fear disappearance through death?
Next time I shall die
Bringing forth wings and feathers like angels;
After that, soaring higher than angels -
What you cannot imagine,
I shall be that.
