Thank you, I love this video---I thought of canning cream cheese as an experiment glad to see this video, I think my canned creamed cheese would have turned out to be a big glob on a jar, so thanks for saving me time and money. Bless you. : )
If the power goes out...and one, has no generator...if somone has the right container to put into the ground (properly of course) with moss laying on top...would that work on keeping it cool enough ?
@MrRunningwolfe it really depends on your location and the time of your. In summertime at my retreat nope it wouldn't work for me so I have to turn to solar. But I bet you can figure out some way for yours. That's wa
hat being a prepper is all about finding ways to be comfortable in tough times. Blessings!
You could knit an army tank outta straw...I think you have one of the most informative channels on here and look forward to you,Katzcradle and MistyShooter.Blessings..
@marshwillow LOL I wish but thank you for placing me in such great company those are two amazing women so is atticus9799 and imstillworkin and many others too many to name ;) Blessings!
@niffer58 yes but the problem will be keeping the live spores active without power. I am planning on running my freezer off the generator to at least keep things chilled, defiantly not frozen cold enough for the spores to remain viable. Blessings!
so to make the cream cheese you just take out the liquid part and cool the solid part?? I cant stand yogurt but I LOVE cream cheese lol.. so just wondered.. :D
A friend of mine always makes yogurt with powered starter. She believes it is nutritionally better. I don't know about that, but it would be good to try out the powdered starter and have some in the food storage.
@TheDenisedrake I did check on that and was hoping it didn't have to be in the fridge but it also requires 40 degree temps and is more expensive than yogurt with live cultures. But it is a viable option. Blessings!
@TheSheChef You too I love all that bacon you purchased. You gotta make a video when you can it and tell me if your exhausted when you finish LOL. Many blessings to you in the coming year my friend. Blessings!
@BexarPrepper LOOOL I will make a video when I can the bacon - thanks for the warning I will get a good nights sleep and some coffee before I can the bacon - Check!
This was very much needed I need to make some yogurt with my powdered milk, I also want to try to make some ricotta cheese with dry milk I wonder how that would be? Thank you so much for all you do!
@vida130 It's the same process you just use lemon juice when your making it. 3 cups powdered milk, 6 cups water, 1/2 cup plain white vinegar maybe I'll make some :) Blessings!
Happy New Year, Bexar Prepper! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's Eve with your family. :) I enjoyed your yogurt video! Thought you might want to know (if you don't already) that Crystal over at user/everydayfoodstorage also has an excellent video on how to make greek yogurt in a crock pot. She also has vids to show you how to make the cheese and no-bake, low-fat cheesecake using the yogurt cheese. Enjoy! :)
Hi Bexar, Hope you had a merry Christmas and This year will be a prosperous year for you.
Can you use the Nido Whole milk powder for this, I don't like the fatfree powdered milk and saw on YT that the Nido is made from whole milk, so I bought some, And it is so good. I'm not using any other milk now. Thank you for all your videos and advice, I check your channel every day for new vids. God bless and keep you and yours.
@sleepyhines I have never tried Nido but whole milk works great. As a matter a fact whole milk will give you results closer to the flavor of sourcream. Blessings!
Wow, I didn't know you could make yoghurt with powdered milk...I watched the video because I wanted to see the end result, which was pretty good....So, I learned something new today.
Seeing the made in England KG scales in USA was a bit weird too.
@BeautyHealthZoneBlog I'm still curious where my mom found it. She lives in a military town so probably someone who was stationed in England at some point. Blessings!
@sherldoe I won't get technical but they contain different bacteria and sour cream has a higher fat content. As far as taste yogurt has a sharper taste when strained then sour cream. Blessings!
I had no idea that cream cheese was nothing more than strained yogurt. Great tips, can't wait to try to make my own yogurt. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
@sherldoe I actually purchase it locally. Breaking Bread the Health Way in San Antonio allows us to place a bulk order a couple of times a year where we can order 50 lb bags. Blessings!
If you dont have a means to keep the yogurt warm, wrap it in a sleeping bag, etc. I make yogurt on my kitchen counter in the summer, on top of my warm fridge in the winter. When you make the cheese, I wonder if you could use the whey for a starter in you next batch?
@brainnoise1 That was the best piece of information I found during my research on this. Makes the cost of having to buy the starter worth while. Blessings!
Cool. Thankyou for putting this up- great idea especially in Singapore where I live as dairy is soooo expensive here due to everything being imported. But powdered milk and uht milk is still cheaper! Kate (Aussie in sg)
wow - you are so clever ! What do you do with the liquid from straining the cream cheese? do you keep it or throw it? I am constantly amazed at the things you come up with - thanks for sharing and Happy 2012
@modoc42 If you eat yogurt you can add up the cost savings for making your own. Also it's great not to have to run out to the store because you need some for a recipe. Which was why I made it in the first place. Blessings!
dont usually comment, but thankyou for sharing all your skills,i can see that you are a very warm hearted person. ive learned so much already from your videos. thanks again ...lita
LOL..kilograms.... I'd have junked that thing by now ! Thats pretty cool, yogurt from powdered milk. A few dehydrated strawberries would jazz it up nicely. :-)
@mhpgardener My mom found it at a yard sale and thought I could use it. I tossed it after the video :) I rehydrated some fruit in syrup and was it ever yummy. Blessings!
I use the ice cube trays for freezing leftover broth, tomato sauce and homemade pesto. The cubes are great for the two of us to throw in whatever you are making. I have done the cheese cloth draining to make cream cheese for years. Before draining, season with herbs of your choice and then drain. Seems that way the flavor is better. God Bless and Happy New Year.
lol, I thought you were going to dehydrate yogurt
yahmana 3 days ago
how long can you freeze the yogurt culture?
yahmana 3 days ago
