Kefka is a more successful villain, but Sephiroth you have to admit is cooler and would of probably destroyed the world but he just loves to play with Cloud and also Sephiroth I like more because he did once have a more human side to him.
@XxbenburnxX A castle set ablaze, a kingdom poisoned, an empire destroyed, a race of magical beings wiped out, the cataclysm brought forth, the power of the gods undone, the existence of magic destroyed. In the end all the heroes of FFVI managed to save was hope.Still,a dude burning down a village is obviously much more impressive.

@Vidszhite To be honest, you know, all those towers Kefka built don't help. Unfortunately, we can clearly see that he's NOT compensating for anything in his final boss sprite... damn that giant boner! XD Also, towers are cooler than swords.
@111axa1 just look at it, kefka is trying to be like villains such as the joker, while sephiroth has assloads of villains copying him, such as the villain from "inuyasha" who has the same long silver hair
@dragondook i guess your right lots of people probably do have people copying him but maybe theyve never heard of sephiroth and just amagined something like him on their own.after all, silver long har hurge samuri sword and black robe looks bad ass. but still kefka is a person who achieved godhood and became the unchallengable ruler of ff6. though the first half of the game he was just a general. however sephiroth was a fallen angel.very poiwerful almost a god or sort of demi god wile he also
@dragondook wile he also got inspiration from this certain character in ff7. and well that kinda makes him a bit of a lacky...and appearently due to what ive heard he got that inspiration the entire game through...ill look it up more but still sephiroth had the typical act i see A LOT. though kefka probably did get a fair amount of inspiration from the joker.
@dragondook Wearing makeup and being crazy does not equal copying The Joker, and having long silver hair and being evil does not equal copying Sephiroth. Notice how those are the only traits these examples have in common. Kefka is a general of an army, the chief black mage of The Empire. Joker has no powers at all, he's just a normal crazy person with a mob of his own. Kefka may have been inspired by Joker, and Sesshomaru by Sephiroth, but that's not the same as "copying" by a longshot.
You like the hair. The sneer. And we could analyze your fascination with the 20 foot sword all day, but whatever. We get it. You like the image.
But the fact is, FF7 wasn't about the villain. VI, and all RPGs that came before it, were. The bad guy drove the games. What made VII new is its focus on the hero. And the hero had weird, weird issues he didn't talk about and you had to play a level IN HIS HEAD to SORT OUT.
o yeah and did i forget to mention sephiroth destroyed his solar system with a single attack and he is litterally a god like the last ff7 battle sepfiroth is in his safer-god mode where he can destroy a solar system
and even in his average form he can easily destroy a planet with meteor so yeah kefka is kinda weird
I am all fine with everyone's opinions and whatnot, but the bias here is ridiculous. I personally like Sephiroth better, but I am not going to be biased, these two will make one HELL of a matchup, as for the victor? We can't really know, how about you try to be unbiased about it.
In the context of Final Fantasy 7? Yes, Tetsuya Nomura said this, but not in Final Fantasy as a whole. But they may just make him that way soon... considering how popular he is.
Can u guys just SHUT THE FUCK UP ON WHO'S BETTER? Holy crap it's like a bunch of 10 and younger kids going around and saying "My Daddy is better" and then stating what his past life was about while throwing in random lies and over detailing what he really did.
Speh= Past Hero who felt betrayed by mankind thus turning into a villain and went around burning towns and summoning a meteor to smack into the world.
Kefka= A "clown" who starting killing a world and slaughtered millions of people.
Speh=Got stabbed by a buster sword and walked off like it was no problem.
Kekfa=Got stabbed multiple times and from what i remember almost got blown up. (Could be thinking of another villain there)
Speh=Almost got his goals achieved by got thwarted by Cloud and his friends multiple times.
Kefka=Completed his main goals (screw up a world to the point of destroying it and killing a lot of people from then on) and then finally betrayed and brought down.
I'm sure if you attained godhood you'd start to question many things. This is the reason Kefka starts to take on a nihilistic attitude. He rules the world with his thumb over it. He has only to think it and he can crush you like an insect. Life is meaningless if it can be destroyed. Why work hard and build a career and be a "success" when everything you create eventually turns into less than dust? There are no values, just illusions created by the human mind. This philosophy is fun to ponder.
lol @ all these people shoving their opinion on others on why they think a video game character is better than the other. just accept that they both are great characters.
YAY!!!!!!! Kefka won! Kefka won! My favorite character of all FF series won!!!!!!! Like Kefka said in one of the cosplays, he "gonna KILL someone today! WHA HA HA HA HA!!!!!"
Looking through these comments, it's weird how some think Sephiroth is better because he kills Aerith. Wow, he kills a praying flower girl who was never in the party because you had better options available. WHAT A MONSTER.
@safersephiroth50 Sephiroth is cooler, but hardly better. Sephiroth merely attempted to destroy the world and was only a god for a few minutes tops. Kefka not only succeeds in destroying the world and becoming a god all in the first freaking half of the game he's in, he remains a god for more than a whole year, and if he feels like it, he'll destroy your whole town with the Light of Judgment.
Plus, Dancing Mad is four times as long as One Winged Angel. All OWA has over DM is lyrics.
Kefka is so much more sadistic and cooler than Sephiroth. As much as I love Sephiroth, he is far too overrated. Oh and at least Kefka was the only FF villain to ever accomplish the goal he set out to achieve. He destoryed the world and killed millions and became a god. Sephiroth summoned a meteor and got pwned by Cloud. Sorry, but Kefka is better
"Kefka is so much more sadistic and cooler than Sephiroth"
---
I'll give you sadistic, but cooler? The man wears make-up and feathers.
"As much as I love Sephiroth, he is far too overrated"
---
He is as much overrated as he is underrated. People always compliment his look, rather than the way the character was written - which is better in every possible way than Kefka.
yeah having silck long hair and a long sword and wearing dark clothes is cool? its cliche. his personality is very very bombass though but is also just 'evil' and not even half as good as kefkas. and kefkas little character didnt have feathers in the game that i know of. people drew it on him outside of the game sure... either way its hard to imagine why he has *face paint* anyways. makes him better though since its just so so odd. sephiroth fanboy retard : )
"Are you not aware of the meaning of the verb "destroy"? Changing geography isn't destroying the world. Go and educate yourself."
----
I will admit he didn't so much as destroy the world. More like he killed it. Remember the beginning of the second half, even the birds were commiting suicide. The world was dying slowly. What your goal was was to stop it from flatlineing. You don't repair the world, you simply make it livable. So maybe we can settle with "He broke it".
I hate your style of reply, take too long to do. Also, death in all its forms are sad. any other opinion just says you need to grow a conscience. Also, why are you getting so fired up by all this? You're rather determined to shoot kefka down. Bad experience with a clown when you were a kid? And if by "He made it ugly and smelly, I'll stick with that." you mean that the world was rotting, sure we can agree.
Death has one form - being dead. With that out of the way, you never answered my question, did you or did you not cry when you saw the Empire State Building blow up in Independence Day? There were people in there too, you know. Well, did you?
"You're rather determined to shoot Kefka down"
-----
No, I am merely entertaining myself by taking on people who post poor arguments for Kefka in the Kefka vs Sephiroth debate. Even I like Kefka.
"He destoryed the world and killed millions and became a god"
---
He did not destroy the world, he made it look ugly. "The millions" he killed (a number pulled out of the horses ass, as always) didn't matter to the player any more than the millions who died in Independence Day. And the title of God isn't worth anything these days.
uhh no he did destroy the world. 'made it look ugly' same thing idiot : )
bringing up independence day ....wtf? how retarded are you. and you can tmake that assumption for people anyways because the fact remains that many people died and most people did look at him as a god and oh wait he WAS a god. he could even do the magic of god ffs
"Because being the goodguy means that the lives of the populace do not matter"
-----
Did you weep when you saw the Empire State Building blow up in Independence Day? Didn't think so. When the statues change the world into crap, your job isn't to go: Oh no! All those innocent lives are lost! You're job is to go: Holy crap! Cool effects!
hahahaahaha yeah in FF: Advent Children. I agree that was retarded but come on! They couldn't kill Cloud even though he could stab him in the chest again like he did on Before Crisis,
Kefka got stabbed on the Floating Continent by Celes and didn't think twice upon it, merely angry that she betrayed him. Sephiroth actually looked hurt when he was stabbed.
If anything, I'd say Kefka and Sephiroth are equal, power-wise, not that it matters, since Exdeath is more powerful than both of them combined.
And did any of these millions matter to the player more than, say the millions who died in Independence Day? The body count must mean something to the player, or it doesn't work. The true strength of Kefka is his entertainment value, he has some truly great lines. I don't understand why Kefka fans don't rely more on this in their arguments.
Id hav 2 say that Kefka is the best FF villain ive evr seen. Hes vry original. Hes unlike evry other main villain. No offense 2 the Sephy fanboys out there (everyone has opinions, and i dont mind who u prefer, all i know is i prefer Kefka), but i find Kefka more compelling and just a cooler villain. Plus, his background story is kinda neat if u know wut happened 2 him.
Let me guess, I'm the fanboy because I just PROVED that Joker and Kefka are two DIFFERENT characters. I'm not the one posting several comments about why one villain is better then the other. Oh, and by the way, what depth of character? He's a fuckin' Mama's Boy, a generic Japanese anime villain. Get over it.
Who the fuck ever suggested that they are the same character? I only mentioned that there are clear parallels between the two: Make up, trademark laughter, nihilism.
"He's a fuckin' Mama's Boy, a generic Japanese anime villain"
---
Name some Japanese Anime villains predating Sephiroth and we'll see about that.
Here is a character, that starts out as a respected and admired hero. He learns about what he believes to be his true origins and thus changes. Not a deus ex machina, but an actual reason. He learns that he is basically a produced monster - no one could simply continue living with that knowledge. Seeing Sephiroth going through the files in the Shinra mansion was the most believable, intense scene of any gaming villain ever.
Sephiroth reads about Jenova and the cetra. He thus deducts, that him and Jenova are the only remaining cetra and that humans - whom he has served thus far - were responsible for the fall of the cetra. It makes all the sense in the world, that in a fit of rage, anger, and hatred towards humanity - what a tragic mistake, he burns down Nibelheim, slaughters everyone there and goes to claim his mother. Not because she is precious to him personally, but because she is the last one besides him.
While I don't have anything against Sephiroth (even though I'm a huge FF6 nerd), I could list some unknown characters who might really surprise you with their debth and drama.
Also, Sephiroth killed ONE main character and a few other people. Kefka blew the shit out of the whole WORLD and made everybody else his slave-worshippers, to the soul purpose of one gleeful giggle.
"Sephiroth killed ONE main character and a few other people"
---
Sephiroth's actions had serious effect on the main characters and on the player, and many of them were permanent. Aerith never came back, Cloud's hometown and it's people never came back. It is now a fake ghost town. Kefka never killed a main character and his achievements were undone once he was defeated, the world went back to pretty and nice - please try to deny that, you can't.
A joker-clone with no motivation vs an original, complex villain. That is the breakdown. Also, let's compare what they did: Sephiroth killed Aerith, telepathically controlled Cloud, summoned Meteor, murdered Shin-Ra. Kefka killed General Leo and then made the world look really ugly. Sephiroth wins.
Lol you forgot to add kefka kept the world alive for one reason. To effin do whatever he wanted Everyone was out of the way he played his cards he killed whoever the hell he wanted with that beam of fire and had comeplete fun like an insane person on crack. Seph? As cool as I like him I think kefka wins. Sephiroth just wanted to destroy the world. Kefka could have Easily destroyed it but he didn't wanna know why? He wanted to eff peoples lives kill whoever he wanted and be at the top.
So Kefka did, with no real reason. What an asshole.
"Sephiroth just wanted to destroy the world."
---
Play the game (VII), or be silent. Sephiroth's intention was to wound the planet and then suck up the lifestream, possessing the planet, not destroying it. It is very silly to judge two characters, if you haven't even played the game Seph is in.
since i love both gaara, i'm not going to freak out and say "OmG kefka ftW". But kefka was just a badass. he killed anyone and everyone he wanted, then destroyed the world, but kept everyone alive just so he could kill some more. sephiroth was cool. just not as cool as kefka.
"since i love both gaara, i'm not going to freak out"
---
I sure hope you are not implying that I am somehow freaked out. I love both as well, I just understand that Sephiroth is a better conceived and more original villain. The presentation and writing of his character is out of Kefka's league. Kefka is very much a comic book villain, Sephiroth is on the film level of story telling. Just look at his entrance to the game - the trail of blood. We see what he is capable before we see himself.
I don't find Kefka or Sephiroth to be either of my favorite villains, and I STILL find your argument terrible. The exact reasons that you find Sephiroth to be a better "villain" could also be argued to be the reason someone is a better antagonist. And that's what he was: an antagonist. He was doing what he thought was best for the planet, and thus for humanity, by becoming its savior. How the hell can you compare a figure like that to Kefka? Their motivations were completely different.
Rubbish. He was doing what he thought he had the right to do. Humanity was his enemy, they had lied to him, used him, betrayed him. Had Sephiroth succeeded, humanity would have been finished. As for Kefka's motivations: can you tell me why after wanting world domination he suddenly changed his mind to: I wanna kill everyone?
I wasn't arguing for or against Sephiroth. I was merely stating that you can't compare two figures like Sephiroth and Kefka together because their motivations are nothing alike, and their personalities are also completely different. Sephiroth believes he is the "chosen one", who will save humanity by wounding the planet. Kind of along the same lines as Seymour, except a bit more... out there.
I can very well compare Kefka and Sephiroth and the way they were written. There is nothing difficult or unnatural about comparing two great villains. And for the last time: Sehiroth wanted to possess the planet, not help humanity. I think he showed us exactly what he thought about humanity when he burnt down Nibelheim.
The majority of the changes were only name/text changes because most wouldn't translate well(except pubs being made cafes), removal of class names, because it wasn't needed, oh, and the superior graphical overhaul the NA version got, but you already knew all this, like you knew you got Cefca's name wrong in the JP version, because you "own" that version. You can now go cry yourself to sleep over butthurt from simple info that a 5 year old American could have found online. Elitist ass.
looking like a clown and acting silly is what made kefka so intimidating, he was super powerful and sinister, but acted silly and clumsy, which simply proves how great he is - not all supervillains need to look and act completely evil to become the most evil people in the universe. in my opinion, kefka is the best villain of all time.
"looking like a clown and acting silly is what made kefka so intimidating"
---
He is a Joker-clone. Lazy writing much. Kefka is an over-rated mediocre villain, with no real motivation and a huge amount of fanboys. He worked all-right, but was nothing interesting. Without his laugh, no one would have cared about him, and even that laugh is stolen from the one and only super villain - The Joker.
And Gaara, piss off. Joker and Kefka are two COMPLETELY different characters with different reasons for their madness. Joker wants to tear down Gotham just to see Batman lose everything. Kefka wants to take over the world so he can watch it slowly, SLOWLY suffer and die just for the sick PLEASURE of it. THAT is fucking evil right there. SEPHY just wants to do it for Mommy's sake, hence, Sephiroth<Kefka.
I will do no such thing, fanboy. One sign of stupid fanboys is, that when their argument is blown out of the water, they try to shout you down - like mindless rabble always does - rather then retaliate with actual argumentation.
You were lucky in the fight. You escaped Sephs EX Burst twice.
Anyway, you did a pretty good job at the very end. You had the right idea the second time (using the Wings HP attack, which is the only really good HP attack Kefka has) and later it suceeded.
Regarding the character disscussion: Why do you spend time bickering about characters that do not exist in reality? Sure, you can have favourites and such (as I have), but bickering about the power storywise is just a waste of time.
Technically, Kefka was already a powerful spellcaster and top ranking general in the army. Then he had the magitek expirements conducted on him, which supplied him with even MORE power, but drove him bathshit insane.
He then schemed behind the scenes to overthrow everyone, gather all the espers he could, then murdered every one of them, absorbing their powers in the process.
By this time, he's practically a god (storyline wise)
But he's not satisfied with that, so he seeks out the very source of magic in the world, and absorbed THAT power unto himself, and he literally BECOMES the "God of Magic".
Storyline-wise, Kefka was one of (but not THE) the most powerful villians. Gameplay-wise, he wasn't that tough due to the limitations of the system at the time.
Still, he's easily the most evil and sadistic characters i nthe FF universe. He commited countless atrocities
Yes, I noticed that mistake after I had posted it. I was already thinking about what I was going to say about him after he had the experiments done on him, and I typed it out like that.
I meant "powerful and top ranking general" minus the "spellcaster". Sorry about that
So why does Kefka have the higer kill count then? lol, just another FFVI fanboy working out his agressions because those around him who have played Final Fantasy have only played X or later... *sigh*
Please... don't judge Sephiroth until you've actually played FFVII. Sure, he's awesome in Advent Children, but he's stupid in his original game. Example: In Advent Children, he seems awesome, yes? A line from AC: "Tell me what you cherish most. Give me the pleasure of taking it away...". But his true nature in his original game is like this: he actually says "Out of my way, I'm going to see my Mother". Pfft. Wow. What a retard... As you can see, big difference between game and movie.
I've played the original game, & your impression is wrong. There are no significant differences between his character in AC & in VII.
People merely assign their perception onto the game which is, more often than not, inaccurate. Remember in the game when Sephiroth convinced Cloud that he wasn't even really human, and got him to just hand over the item he needed to destroy the world & achieve godhood? Even though he could have done it at any time?
Sephiroth is a pussy mamas boy in comparison to Kefka as an evil villain. Kefka actually DOES become godlike and destroy the world...Sephiroth...just a mamas boy.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Obvious troll is obvious.
Seriously, do you really think this is going to upset me? It's not like a million and a half people haven't already pointed out that Kefka is a clown. Literally.
The problem with Kefka is that he has so many comical traits that I find it very hard to take him seriously. Besides that, I never really did care for the "destroy everything 'cause I'm crazy" motivation.
I've posted enough VIi info. I'll just let the sentence "I like Sephiroth better" speak for itself
what i find funny is Kefka destroying the world. Was it his merit, or your incompetence as a player, the incompetence of the characters? Cloud and his friends prevented the destroying of the world, Sephiroth wasn't able to do it because Cloud was there. He killed him once, and he did it again, and then Aeris' Holy and the Lifestream stopped Meteor, but Terra and the others in FF VI did not first stop Kefka.... Weird isn't it?...
"what i find funny is Kefka destroying the world.
---
It was the incompetence of the main characters, which is especially ridiculous, considering that later in the game, when Kefka is stronger than ever before, they are able to kill him with just four of them. Talk about a Devil ex machina.
played both actually and beat both in my perspectie is even if he stucked up the life stream it would Destroy the world or make it a Vessel I guess but the world would be Dead. Kefka showed power. also the main characters gathered all the espers around the world after what happened or the ones that were left *INCLUDING the most Powerful the Ultima* which caused them to be up to status with kefka
"even if he stucked up the life stream it would Destroy the world"
---
That, considering the lifestream gives life to everything is more than likely, but it doesn't change the fact that Sephiroth wanted possession, death of the planet would have been a consequence, not the motivation.
"the main characters gathered all the espers around the world"
---
Which is not necessary to beat the game. You don't even need all the characters to beat the game. In fact, you don't need most the characters. Kefka had the power from the statues, he had the light of judgment, the main characters never had the power to make the world look really ugly.
lol all you really need to kill him is one character Shadow and just throw the ragnarok at him that usually does him in really quick lol XD as cool as sephy is, I prefer kefka he's funny and well he's the only ff villain that actually acomplished his goals ( even though Sephy came really really close to ^^). I just like the sound of evil magical clown ( or Drag queen XD!!!) becomes a god lol .
if he's mother wasn't a being that wanders the universe sucking the life out of each planet it encouters, then he would be a retard... but since that is not the case, he is simply put the most powerful villain. He excels at everything, even magic and you can see that when you "control" him in the game
Don't get me wrong Sephiroth was genuinely cool but he has become a monster. His fans have turned him into a joke from the crappy slash fic, faux religions (true sadly), and hentai culture surrounding him. In the movie he comes back as emo kids and in KH is basically just a stalker obsessed with Cloud.
Kefka while he does have his fanboys they have never acted as mindbogglingly stupid. His character hasn't decayed away and is still the same old nihilist clown. Kefka wins.
but that is the problem of everything that as many fans. What matters to true fans are that he was cool and he is still cool cause we want a FF VII remake, and him to appear more in other spin offs.
You can't blame the character because of what fans do. Kefka didn't "decay" as you say maybe, perhaps sadly, because he doesn't have enough fans for Square to bring him to other games other than the original FF VI. Appealing to the masses isn't necessarily a bad thing
I pretty much agree with everything you say. The factor you miss is that Square is catering to these fans and legitimizing the annoying traits they place on the character. I used AC and KH examples in my earlier post. Stuff with him in it will now forevermore have him be a godly mary-sue or have him and Cloud have a very homoerotic relationship.
You are also right about Kefka not having enough 'American' fans to warrant milking his character like Sephiroth. Dodged a bullet there.
That's not my point. I don't like how Sephiroth has to depend on someone else (particularly his MOTHER) to give him the power that he needs to accomplish his intentions. THAT'S why I don't like Sephiroth being a Mamma's boy. Besides, he was already powerful enough to take over the world in the first place. He didn't need JENOVA's help.

VI, however, was all about Kefka.

CoreMarine 2 years ago
Speh=Got stabbed by a buster sword and walked off like it was no problem.
Kekfa=Got stabbed multiple times and from what i remember almost got blown up. (Could be thinking of another villain there)
Speh=Almost got his goals achieved by got thwarted by Cloud and his friends multiple times.
Kefka=Completed his main goals (screw up a world to the point of destroying it and killing a lot of people from then on) and then finally betrayed and brought down.
Choose your villain and shut up now.

Nihilism is just as profound of a motive as Sephiroth's was. It all depends on how you perceive the world.

I will admit he didn't so much as destroy the world. More like he killed it. Remember the beginning of the second half, even the birds were commiting suicide. The world was dying slowly. Kefka got stabbed on the Floating Continent by Celes and didn't think twice upon it, merely angry that she betrayed him. Sephiroth actually looked hurt when he was stabbed.

Introduction: Sephiroth wins. (The trail of blood)
Dialogue: Kefka wins. (Sand on my boots!)
Achievements: Sephiroth wins. (Aerith)
Death: Kekfa wins. (Sephiroth dies too many times.)
Depth of character: Sephiroth wins. (Motivation, a past and a relationship to other central characters ).

Name some Japanese Anime villains predating Sephiroth and we'll see about that.
Gaaraoftheoasis 2 years ago
"Oh, and by the way, what depth of character?"
---
Here is a character, that starts out as a respected and admired hero. He learns about what he believes to be his true origins and thus changes. Not a deus ex machina, but an actual reason. He learns that he is basically a produced monster - no one could simply continue living with that knowledge. Seeing Sephiroth going through the files in the Shinra mansion was the most believable, intense scene of any gaming villain ever.
to be continued
Gaaraoftheoasis 2 years ago
Sephiroth reads about Jenova and the cetra. He thus deducts, that him and Jenova are the only remaining cetra and that humans - whom he has served thus far - were responsible for the fall of the cetra. It makes all the sense in the world, that in a fit of rage, anger, and hatred towards humanity - what a tragic mistake, he burns down Nibelheim, slaughters everyone there and goes to claim his mother. Not because she is precious to him personally, but because she is the last one besides him.

BREAKDOWN:
A joker-clone with no motivation vs an original, complex villain. That is the breakdown. Also, let's compare what they did: Sephiroth killed Aerith, telepathically controlled Cloud, summoned Meteor, murdered Shin-Ra. Kefka killed General Leo and then made the world look really ugly. Sephiroth wins.
Gaaraoftheoasis 2 years ago
Lol you forgot to add kefka kept the world alive for one reason. "he killed whoever the hell he wanted"
---
So Kefka did, with no real reason.
Gaaraoftheoasis 2 years ago
since i love both gaara, i'm not going to freak out and say "OmG kefka ftW". But kefka was just a badass. he killed anyone and everyone he wanted, then destroyed the world, but kept everyone alive just so he could kill some more. sephiroth was cool. just not as cool as kefka.
L7dreamtheaterfan 2 years ago
"since i love both gaara, i'm not going to freak out"
---
I sure hope you are not implying that I am somehow freaked out. I love both as well, I just understand that Sephiroth is a better conceived and more original villain. The presentation and writing of his character is out of Kefka's league. Kefka is very much a comic book villain, Sephiroth is on the film level of story telling. Just look at his entrance to the game - the trail of blood. We see what he is capable before we see himself.
Gaaraoftheoasis 2 years ago
I don't find Kefka or Sephiroth to be either of my favorite villains, and I STILL find your argument terrible. The exact reasons that you find Sephiroth to be a better "villain" could also be argued to be the reason someone is a better antagonist. And that's what he was: an antagonist. He was doing what he thought was best for the planet, and thus for humanity, by becoming its savior. How the hell can you compare a figure like that to Kefka? Their motivations were completely different.
Jolt4 2 years ago
Gaaraoftheoasis 2 years ago
I wasn't arguing for or against Sephiroth. I was merely stating that you can't compare two figures like Sephiroth and Kefka together because their motivations are nothing alike, and their personalities are also completely different. Sephiroth believes he is the "chosen one", who will save humanity by wounding the planet. Kind of along the same lines as Seymour, except a bit more... out there.
Jolt4 2 years ago
I can very well compare Kefka and Sephiroth and the way they were written. There is nothing difficult or unnatural about comparing two great villains. And for the last time: Sehiroth wanted to possess the planet, not help humanity. I think he showed us exactly what he thought about humanity when he burnt down Nibelheim.

looking like a clown and acting silly is what made kefka so intimidating, he was super powerful and sinister, but acted silly and clumsy, which simply proves how great he is - not all supervillains need to look and act completely evil to become the most evil people in the universe. in my opinion, kefka is the best villain of all time.
fenrir721 2 years ago 6

He is a Joker-clone. Lazy writing much. Kefka is an over-rated mediocre villain, with no real motivation and a huge amount of fanboys. He worked all-right, but was nothing interesting. Without his laugh, no one would have cared about him, and even that laugh is stolen from the one and only super villain - The Joker.
Gaaraoftheoasis 2 years ago
And Gaara, piss off. Joker and Kefka are two COMPLETELY different characters with different reasons for their madness. Joker wants to tear down Gotham just to see Batman lose everything. Kefka wants to take over the world so he can watch it slowly, SLOWLY suffer and die just for the sick PLEASURE of it. THAT is fucking evil right there. SEPHY just wants to do it for Mommy's sake, hence, Sephiroth<Kefka.

Actually, Kefka got magic drained from an Esper.
TechUnadept 2 years ago
Yeah? Magicite?
Finalkfka 2 years ago
Technically, Kefka was already a powerful spellcaster and top ranking general in the army. Then he had the magitek expirements conducted on him, which supplied him with even MORE power, but drove him bathshit insane.
He then schemed behind the scenes to overthrow everyone, gather all the espers he could, then murdered every one of them, absorbing their powers in the process.
By this time, he's practically a god (storyline wise)
Guytsu 2 years ago
But he's not satisfied with that, so he seeks out the very source of magic in the world, and absorbed THAT power unto himself, and he literally BECOMES the "God of Magic".
Storyline-wise, Kefka was one of (but not THE) the most powerful villians. Gameplay-wise, he wasn't that tough due to the limitations of the system at the time.
Still, he's easily the most evil and sadistic characters i nthe FF universe. He commited countless atrocities

I actually have never played FF VII. I just like Sephiroth better.
TechUnadept 2 years ago
Please... don't judge Sephiroth until you've actually played FFVII.
MarioLazar 2 years ago
I've played the original game, & your impression is wrong. There are no significant differences between his character in AC & in VII.
People merely assign their perception onto the game which is, more often than not, inaccurate. Remember in the game when Sephiroth convinced Cloud that he wasn't even really human, and got him to just hand over the item he needed to destroy the world & achieve godhood? Even though he could have done it at any time?
He was all about torturing Cloud in FFVII.

TheLithp 2 years ago
what i find funny is Kefka destroying the world.

That, considering the lifestream gives life to everything is more than likely, but it doesn't change the fact that Sephiroth wanted possession, death of the planet would have been a consequence, not the motivation.

Wait now that I think about it, didn't Ultimecia complete her goal before Squall and Rinoa beat her ass? I don't remember FF8 to well. ^^;
JackThrowerofPrinnys 2 years ago
Ultimecia did achieve his goal, because that was Laguna's plan: to defeat the main villain by letting her win. Jeeeez....

Thanks ^^

if he's mother wasn't a being that wanders the universe sucking the life out of each planet it encouters, then he would be a retard... but since that is not the case, he is simply put the most powerful villain.
