I just discovered that TTWS are back together as a full time working band. In April of 2011 they put out a "Greatest hits" album and they are working on some new stuff. I read that they announced their official reunion back in December 2010. Just wanted to mention it for those who love these guys but were not aware of the reunion. Looking forward to hearing more great music from them.
Listen to the lyrics closely, and it sounds like a song about a guy talking to a girl who he is in love with, but she won't leave the guy she's with. A friend of mine mentioned this, and it makes sense. They meet in secret, and she promises to run off with him, but something is always wrong, and she won't go.
This song brings back memories of driving around with my dad as a little kid... I love listening to it now. Good memories. And I think we all know someone like the person in the song.
Great, underrated band; their albums are awesome. Somehow my favorite album of theirs is their live acoustic EP, which feels really intimate and is pretty much flawless.
Great high school memory. We used to sit and watch MTV when they were all music videos, and would sit for hours in hopes of just seeing the one we were waiting for... Seems so long ago with reality TV and YouTube.
Hey I'm 21, and was born in 1990. didn't listen to this band when I was younger, stumbled across them through Scrubs the TV show actually, this truely is great band, doesn't bring back any memories just now, but in 10 years time,I'm sure it will :)
that this song/video has lower than 5,000,000,000 views shows that something is most definitely always wrong with human beings and their ears. :) DULCINEA ALBUM=EPIC. :)
They were prophets. People devolving to a species that can't make friends on their own, so they need other ways to get them... precisely like facebook.
Glen was and still is such a cutie pie <3 Love this band...so many awesome memories of seeing them live back in the 90s...especially in Santa Barbara.
I came of age in the 90s...and have broad tastes, but Toad has always been a favorite of mine. I saw them live a lot whether they were alone, with another band, or sharing the stage at festivals...and I can tell you this. They draw the most diverse crowds of anybody I have ever seen. Stoners smoking openly, abercrombied up college kids, white-collar dads with hippie pasts, sensitive jocks, church groups, goth girls who love the lyrics, etc...etc...etc... and everybody gets along. Brilliant.
Featured video is Sponge- Plowed, that's a really awesome song from the 90's if you've never heard it, I'd def recommend. More grunge-ish than this, not that that's a good or bad thing. hugely underrated
What I find particularly brilliant about this song is the double layered vocals in the choruses. I posted the complete lyrics below because the backing vocals are often tough to make out. Love this song.
1st chorus Again (Again we fail) It seems we meet (to meet and mend) In the spaces (The spaces safe) In between (between intents) We always say (We say too much) It won't take long (and long been gone) But something's always wrong 2nd chorus Again (Again we fail) It seems we meet (to make amends) In the spaces (And wend our way) In between (between intents) We always say (And looking back,) It won't take long (not moving on) But something's always wrong The 3rd chorus is a repeat of the 1st.
I loved the 80's. When that decade was over I spent the 90's sad that the 80's were over. I regret that I didnt appreciate the 90's as a great decade for music as well. I've spent the first decade of the 21st century sad over both the 80's and 90's. You never appreciate what youv'e got until it goes away.
A band used to be just a couple of friends getting together & not to much thought put into it. They played music because they wanted to met babes & maybe make a few dollars at the same time. To me you don't write a song to appeal to the audience you write it for yourself & yes hopefully other people will enjoy it & buy it. Artist development is supposed to happen naturally along the way & not be artificially manufactured in some LA,TN, or NYC studio to appeal to 12-14 year old girl's!
@michaelmercer89 god bless my father for giving me his cd's and not leaving the radio to dictate my musical taste. listen to The Gaslight Anthem. I'm only 18 and i realize music has gone to shit. people my age worship Justin Bieber and Kanye West.. i roll down my windows and blast Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Live and Bruce Springsteen. So give Gaslight a shot, if nothing else, for guy with similar musical taste. But they, in my opinion, could be the music industry's last dying gasp of hope.
Amo eles!! Pena q os jovens de hj nunca ouviram essa banda..!! Eles são feras.. keria q existissem bandas como esta ainda...agora eh só bosta de Restart e cine!!Aff coitados deles..tenho dó da nova geração!!
I love this song. It's my favorite Toad song. And the video is pretty clever. Notice the price for the Band at the begining of the video. The price keeps dropping throughout the video and by the end only 1 has been sold while the others sell like hot-cakes. And an interesting selection on the other items being sold: (Scapegoat: Everyone needs one / Self - Esteem: why be you / Penance Rope: No pain no gain )
Is it me, or did Toad the Wet Sprocket try to sound like the Gin Blossoms, or were the Gin Blossoms trying to sound like Toad the Wet Sprocket? Either way, I like both bands. :D
I fell in love with this song only a few years ago --- never did get the chance to hear it before XM radio. Sad, this band really deserved to go places.
Florand...I hear you. Think of it this way...we are the lucky few. Music is so very homogenized. Do you have a fav song of a local band you know? Support locally!
@WhooHooMusic is not just one kind of music that i do like.i like all kinds of music.you can say i am open minded when it comes to music.from hip hop to country music.i live in greece there are some great 1- 2 bands wich i do support but the rest is not for me.
its amazing how every vid ive seen on here of them, I heard everyday before and after high school...to bad they didnt get more recognition for thier great talent!
I Agree Toad was so underrated, but I Don't know how you guys feel but when you catch the video and song message, i feel pitty for the humankind, theyr'e right "Something is always Wrong!.. *_*
Ok I get want your saying now. Kinda like how a rapper would say that Toad the Wet Sprocket is the shit but meaning it in a good way. Now that I'm 32 and grew up in the grunge alternative era I remember the laid back and flannel clothes and shaved hair trend that took place. I miss those days and I guess it lasted from 91-96? It's amazing how times have changed. I never watch MTV anymore. Do bands still dress emo?
Yeah emo killed MTV, Nickleback killed the radio. I got tired of hearing chad kroeger's diaphram every 20 min. The internet is really the only place to find good music anymore. Yes they are emo still. I am hoping shoegaze/dreampop takes over soon. I love the beautiful psychedelia
Nickleback's first major hit is the only song i like from them. The only bands I cared for in the past 10 yrs or so is Cold Play, and 3 Doors Down. To me they seemed to be the most unique. Cold Play has a few songs I really like but I'm not a Die Hard fan and 3 Doors Down has some good depressive songs.
Pink Floyd, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are my 3 favorite bands in that order. My favorite solo artists are Bob Dylan and Neil Young.
Gotta love TTWS. I hadnt seen this video in a looooong time and about 5 years ago I saw it and laughed because my gf's (now my wife) dad looks just like Dean Denning in this video. And just so happened, he is a big TTWS fan too. He was happy he finally knew someone else who liked them as much as he did. But, when you father in law is only 13 years older than you, you are bound to have similar taste. lol
This isn't a shit band. They were overshadowed by super bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, etc.
While they had minor success compared to those bands, Toad The Wet Sprocket had a string of hits that people later in life will stop and say "Hey I remember that song and it's pretty cool, who sang it a? I give them credit that they were at least original. This is my favorite song. I'm a sucker for depressive songs.
This might be an incredibly stupid question, but I have to ask, and I mean no disrespect, it's just pure curiosity... is Toad's drummer a man of...short stature, shall we say? I've been wondering that since I first saw the video for Walk On the Ocean.
is sad to see that a great song like this gets only so much views and songs by crapy artists get much much more.i guess most people don't know about real music.:(
@florand another generation might be saying the same about Toad, and so on. Views, posts, twits, text, it's all bs! like Boy George said in the 80's, "popularity breeds discontent". The proof is in the pudding & Toad's got it. Seeing them tonight at the Moore Theater in Seattle.
@florand SO TRUE! This band is amazing and the video is genius yet I've never heard of this song! I was looking for a TTWS song I heard on the radio the other night that blew me away and just clicked on this!
I saw them in Detroit with Big Head Todd and the Monsters and The Cure was the "Big Act", Glenn was barefoot--both bands were awesome, good entertainment--left early b/c I wasn't a big Robert Smith/Cure fan really and the weed/cigarette smoke was making me ill.
This is an excellent band, this song reminds me my last girlfriend... it is so bad when people sometimes prefer to see only the negative things on this beautifull life... this kind of music is just great
I'm building a time machine, I'm going back to the 90s, and I'm just going to keep doing that with the rest of my decades.

This might be an incredibly stupid question, but I have to ask, and I mean no disrespect, it's just pure curiosity... is Toad's drummer a man of...short stature, shall we say? I've been wondering that since I first saw the video for Walk On the Ocean.

As a closup of the drummer was shown, my friend walked past my computer and shouts "TIMMAY!!"
I guess I'm going to hell too, because I laughed.

is sad to see that a great song like this gets only so much views and songs by crapy artists get much much more.i guess most people don't know about real music.:(

@florand
I hear you 100+% This is timeless music. 100% REAL.
WhooHooMusic 1 year ago
@florand another generation might be saying the same about Toad, and so on. Views, posts, twits, text, it's all bs! like Boy George said in the 80's, "popularity breeds discontent". The proof is in the pudding & Toad's got it. Seeing them tonight at the Moore Theater in Seattle.
