Microsoft Probably organized the attacks so that people change to Xbox360, but thats not the only reason. Another reason could be, that Sony would have to spend more money on security and therefor have to charge a fee for Online playing. Microsoft wants them to charge for online play so people don't run over to Sony! Things like this almost never happen, why should they attack the FREE PSN where they get less kreditcard data comparing to Xbox Live where they would make more profit!?

Microsoft's clients gets hacked everyday in the form of computers (xbox runs on the same OS structure as your computers fyi) although the company it self is pretty secure, but I'm sure they are going over with a fine toothed comb and beefing up security as we speak. Sony was probably just the most profitable of the online company's that could have been attacked.
