was it a coincidence that when the sies over Britain were closed last week, due to the volcano in Iceland, the sky was clear blue, as soon as the planes returned the high white cloud returned, I live close to London so there are always planes above, it is very rare nowadays to get a clear blue sky, the contrails seem to spread into a complete cloud above. Is anybody aware of a research going on into this?

What you are seeing is ice crystals, not actual pollution.

Jet exhaust is very similar to car exhaust - just that at high altitudes the water in it freezes into these ice clouds called contrails. They sometimes spread out to cover the sky if weather condition are right.

Old school contrails had just the particulate from the dirty unburnt fuel these trails visually must have a lot more particulate whatever it is to spread the way they do. Ice crystals do not propagate they dissolve because they have little particulate. Research geo-engineering and global dimming by BBC as a start.

The point is that the VISIBLE part, the contrail, is just ice crystals. A lot of the time the planes don't even leave a contrail, and yet the exhaust is exactly the same (contrail formation depends on the weather).

So then why all the fuss about contrails? Why not the same fuss about aircraft exhaust when the weather is such that no contrail form?

ya like on a frigid day the car exhaust does not fill cities with lingering fog. You make no sense because these are not on safe flight paths, commercial jets don't cross in Canada, they systematically obscure the sunlight without public input that itself with all the complaints coming this summer as it gets ramped up will increase the pollution you deny and it drifts here at 550ft where people breath while skiing. Fact particulate forms haze/clouds not the dispersing heat from jets.

They are jets flying at a different altitudes. It only takes a few thousand feet (depending on the conditions aloft) - like 30,000 vs. 33,0000. You can't tell the difference in height from the ground, but you see the contrails.

If additives were added to Jet-A, the fuel give less energy per unit during combustion, resulting in a higher fuelburn to meet thrust demands.
