I saw them perform this song last night, and it was way better than this, so I'm guessing either this was kind of an off-night for them, or maybe something is lost in the video. Paul and Hauser might be losing their voices just a little, but Siegel and Bentyne (the girls) are still 100% for sure.
Funny how some people need to put down other musicians. You really think this sounds better than most groups? You're deaf. Sure at one point in the late 70s-80s they were very good. That's irrelevant. If a singer stops caring and isn't talented enough to maintain their level of musicianship, they should retire. End of story Keith. If they want to keep going, they need to lock themselves up in a room and practice.
I really enjoyed this video. The kind of music they do is hard to do live. I am sure in the studio it is mixed for a better sound. They are all gifted singers.
@jrlaven48 Gifted singers sound good. This sounds terrible. How do you figure? The studio is filled with options to make even the worst singers and musicians sound good. Live performance tells all. They make Taylor Swift look like Aretha Franklin.
I will never forget the first time I saw them in concert back in 2000. They said, "Now for a request." I whispered Soul Food To Go. Then someone sitting in front of me said, "Louder, they have to hear you.' So I yelled, "Soul Food To Go!" Janis said, "You wanna hear something from Brasil?" So they sang the song for me.
@pukkie2310 I agree, it's a horrible mix. It reminds me of karaoke because the vocals are so loud. Sounds like the band is pre-recorded. If anything in this situation a professional sound engineer would try and hide the vocals because they are so bad. Everything they sing is out of tune. This is an embarrassment to music and musicians across the globe.

I found this video while searching for videos of Steve Hass. Too bad there aren't more of him on here with a decent band.
These singers suck, and so does the music. The band plays the crap out of it, but you can't polish a turd.
The main thing that pisses me off to no end is that these four disgraces to music make a living doing it, while so many talented people are struggling. THEY CAN'T SING. End of story.
I agree. I know it's not about age. But, they are up there now. They may not be able to reach the same pitches & notes as easy as before. And, perhaps it was just an off night. I know Janis still LOOKS great. :)
You people are funny. I don't care what the drummer looks like, that's just silly. I don't agree with you drumfreke. I paid close to 50 dollars to see them live. If I saw something like this I would want a refund. With bands like The New York Voices out there, why bother going to see something like this? It doesn't sound good. Just stay home and listen to the recordings.
Whoa when did this happen? I have been a fan for 20 years. Last time I saw them in New York they were dull but not bad. I agree with Jazzman, the sound mix included. Time to give it a rest or do some rehearsing. Tony Bennet is 83 and puts this to shame. The good news is I can still listen to Extensions.
wow, kudos to this group for still working. Kudos to them on their polished band. Hass is a big name in the drum world.
By the sound of their vocals I'm really not sure they should still be out there. It's nice to see artists that know when their day has come and gone. This isn't the type of music that is forgiving when a vocalist is out of tune. Here you have 4 vocalists out of tune, and too loud. Maybe if the sound technician mixed them with the band, the bad singing wouldn't be so obvious.
@Jazman1942 I don't think it's so terrible. Not as much as some comments on here suggest. I think they're singing over playback anyway. It could be better but it's passable. Not bad considering they're clearly getting on in age.
@AcousticUplift No that's a livesound if I have ever heard one. Not playback. I agree with some of these comments. I pay good money to hear the bands I love reproduce their material in a live setting. These singers have no respect for music. I understand being off your game, but this song was released in 1987. Meaning they have been performing it for 20 years. There are plenty of acts who are older that still sound great. Professional people in any field do not do their jobs this poorly.
I wish they live 4ever!!

Not getting any younger, to be sure, but after the Manhattan Transfer have been dead for a week they'll still sing better than most groups.

Come on, man. They haven't always been as bad as this performance. You know that. Get real.

Horrible performance. Sounds like they're drunk and/or they haven't rehearsed together in years.

well at least it's live singing. these guys aint young so cut them some slack. Look at the keyboard set up, even that's ancient.
Steve Hass plays to that percussion loop as smooth as silk and so tight. He's a bad dude. Rest of the band sounds great too. Who are they?
