My canary flies freely around the room and goes back to his cage to eat and drink, and finally to roost at night. A simple hand movement near him and he scoots right back to his cage. Be careful of anything he might get stuckin though/ poisonous plants and ofcourse open windows!
I wouldn't know. I don't own one. However, I suppose it depends if the bird's wings are clipped, how big the room it has escaped into is, and if you have help or a net or something.
Clipping both of a bird's wings is the same as not clipping them at all. The idea is to throw them off balance. If both wings are even, the bird can still fly.
Mine have gone out form their cage but its not that hard to catch them back (indoors obviously). You can use a cloth as a net and catch them easily and softly.
I'd sure love to have a pair of them.

Sounds like you have a very good bird there. ^^
And yes, one has to be careful of all the common dangers. Many a pet bird has been lost out an open window. (Not by me, however. I don't own birds.)
