Something that's very interesting I just found out about Can We Still Be Friends, that links Vanilla Sky and Almost Famous.

Apparently Todd Rundgren wrote the song about his long time love Bebe Buell after they broke up (obviously). They lived together from '72 to '78, but she became pregnant to Steve Tyler in '77 and gave birth to Liv Tyler.

Cameron Crowe partly based the character of Penny Lane from Almost Famous on Bebe Buell, who he met as a teenager in the early '70s.
