The truth of the matter is, people will judge her daughter based on what she wears. If she's wearing semi-risque clothing, then they're going to assume the worse. The daughter might be sweet, intelligent, and not at all trashy, but that's what people WILL think. I don't like it, but I don't write the book. :< Different hair colors shouldn't be a huge problem. It's an expression and most teenagers are doing this. Mom should lay off at least about that part.
I think the shorts are not shorts on her daughter,I see the mom being really jealous of her daughter and wants her to dress like some nun or something
And the Mom; come on, all 16-year-old blond, slim, good looking girls get stared at by guys on the street. And those tops are not too skimpy, it's 2011 not 1950 Mom! Lighten up.
Her mother reminds me of Kathy Bates lol... I totally agree with her mother, who wants a teenge girl to be dressing like this and i cannot stand that part when Dr.phil compared his son to a teenge girl, that is so wrong, he can't do that... Sometimes i feel he needs to get educated seriously....
Making judgements quickly is actually something our brain does. In order to make sense of the world the brain puts everything into chategories. If it didn't, then the information would be too much. Just think about a computer. You put your files into folders to organise them. Also, imagine if you couldn't make quick judgements for example while driving a car and someone steps in front of your vehicle.
Why the fck is dr.phil using Obama to talk shit. At least Joel Stein defends him in this sense. That old white lady is dumb as shit- angry that the president is trying to communicate with the people. I'm not an Obama worshipper but communication and visibility is definitely a good trait to have in a president.

I think the mom is right, the daughter does dress provocatively, she's only 16. It's harsh but it's true, people judge you, and if my daughter dressed that way I'd definitely have some words with her about it. And those photos she had of herself??
I don't agree with you simply because the mother isn't "judging" based on her daughter's best interest. This lady is probably a narcissist. She sees her daughter as an extension of herself. I don't know if it was in this part or the next, but the mom calls her daughter her "most prized possession" and you could tell she slipped up.
People with rigid values like that scare the bejesus out of me.
@Squirpit Yeah, I don't have a daughter, but I know that if I did, I wouldn't want my daughters to dress like this. Like it or not, what you wear, how you present yourself makes an impression. I wouldn't hire a girl to work for me who is wearing booty shorts or skinny jeans to an interview. People judge, like it or not. And those photos... they're really sad; a picture says a thousand words, and none of those are words I'd want spoken about my daughter.
@JuggieC I absolutely agree with you! As for the pictures, if he was doing a show on cyber preditors or something of the sort, he would use the daughters pictures of examples of what not to wear and or post online. My parents never let me dress like that and I don't hate them for it. In fact, I love them for it
She's just expressiing herself but the mom is being 'mean' because she's protective, i'm nineteen but If I had a daughter... I wouldn' like seeing her in shortie shorts either lol
come on dr phil.. u came compare u son to wat the girls mom is talking about.... she is a teenage girl.. and her mom is being protective cause she knows wat is out there... but i guess her daughter is just experimenting... they both have good points...i understand wat they are both saying..
Why do people make snap judgments and decisions about others based on minimal information? Dr. Phil is joined by TIME magazine contributor Joel Stein, who calls himself a professional judger, to determine why people are so quick to form an opinion.

Yeah, people never minded that Bush was on TV, because he would only be seen fishing or golfing or plainly looking at the camera baffled and stupid.

"Is Chris too judgmental or is Aubrey just too much of a wild child?"
HA! Those shorts she was wearing (the white ones, not the bible ones) are probably the most modest shorts I've ever seen a teenage girl wear.
