  • lil lewis and clark in there

  • The name of this song is The Jolly Swagman!

  • wow a mistake at 1:54, the first one I've ever heard! So he IS human :|

  • I love how after clapping along to the beat for a few seconds, everyone's like "oh shit we better shut the fuck up and listen to this"

  • @findthemonthefloor lol somebody is way of the beat too. LOL!

  • Its an insult againt music to dislike this video ...

This is what music is all about, feeling and joy..

  • @ZapperJet yesss I was just thinking of that!!! You'r absolutely right =))

  • "The Jolly Swagman"

  • fucking amazing :)

  • @musztarda00

Sorry for your countries loss dude.

    A terrible thing for sure.

  • this makes me wanta cry and never look at my guitar again

  • thats a man who was made not just for the guitar. he was made to inspire us. and he did.

  • @ZapperJet this is much harder to play than lewis and clark though. And apart from that, this is played with a thumbpick and L&C isn't.

  • Man! Love this music..! Cheers

  • jolly swagman for the win

  • It's odd, it sounds like Lewis and Clark bakwards in places. There are elements of Lewis and Clarke in it for sure.

  • This is "the jolly swagman"

  • Amazing!@!

  • But he lives in Nashville

  • "Dankeschön liebe Kumpels" - xD

I love this man and his music!! :-D

  • pfff nice arogance to say that your country is the best...there is no such thing as best

  • Um..ah ..careful mate, ya might get *rapped on.

  • tommy would disown you, he drew his inspirations from Chet and Travis. tommy is the best, sure. I'll give you that. But where would he be had he not listened to Windy and Warm playing on his radio when he was a little kid? who knows; give credit where credit is due. nationality shouldn't matter in music

  • touche, but still, he was born in australia, that means we can brag to other countries that he's ours! even if his skill was fostered overseas.

  • dont clap!

  • ahh that Waltzing Matilda part is so awesome..

  • So Whats This Song Called

  • The song is "The jolly swagman" i think

  • Yes it is, followed by a celtic-sounding "Waltzing Matilda"

  • he plays a maton... its Australian

  • a man simply playing the music he loves and the heart and drive to be the best he can be that drive and heart is in all of us granted he has taken years to be this good and for this im so glad and also glad to be a proud aussie

  • ive never understood how people can clap out of time

  • Hahahaha... So true man... The crowd really sucks, lol... But Tommy compensates for it.

  • they probs dont have a musical bone in them lol

also they dont understand what tempo an time signature is lol

  • Man, it's not difficult to find the time signature when it's 4/4... -.-

  • they hope others think they're musical and they don't recognize their mistake because they aren't :o)

  • You really would believe he had a bass player behind him if someone told you that.

'I don't need no stinking band Tommy'

  • The things I would do to have that skill are unspeakable...

Then again, I might as well practice and be happy being half of what he is. :D

  • This song is called Jolly Swagman. But I'm sure most of you knew. And just like everything Tommy plays, it's wayyyyy off the charts!! We love you Tommy!!!

  • feels like...lewis & clark, i mean just a little

  • Yea, you're right.

It's like an upgraded version of lewis and clark.

    Still great song !

  • haha any way tommy style it is

  • Sheww...Damn...Is this guy freaking amazing or is this guy freaking amazing???

  • He IS! =D

  • @lesr131 Yup...he's freaking amazing!!! lol

  • he's the best guitarist in the world period he's on steve vai's label recordings

  • YES! and the coolest thing is being regarded as the best guitarist in the world by STEVE VAI!!!

  • @salm37 which one?

  • @guitarsalert favored nation records...just acoustic guitar...a label Vai started

  • the best acoustic guitarist

  • He plays with a Alesis Midiverd II ! And I got One, mine s'from 89!!!!!

  • im positive that almost all the guitars he plays with, live at least, are all Maton's. I saw him pull out a vintage Gibson though when he was in Toronto.

  • This is 100% a Maton... TE mentions this almost every concert he s playing. This one he plays for more then 10 years, just have a look -> Its already heavily damaged, but he goes on playing it cause this is his favourite one. He said this when he was in Rietberg last year.

  • Did you know that he damaged it on purpose? He has some song for which he uses those *damaged* parts. It was damaged for him actually.

  • Yeah that song would probably be "initiation"

  • I want a Maton. An Aussie guitar that has a great sound.

  • that's true, he plays a Gibson Kalamazoo 1932, which was a gift from a Dutchman and has a special meaning to him.

  • Tommy plays mostly Maton guitars.

  • amazing! the melody, bass, harmony, percussion, rhythm - its all there, and at breakneck speed, no less! i've seen him in concert twice, but this never gets old.

  • sounds like maybe a bit of reverb.... but that's gotta be about it. everything else is technique and ringing strings...

    simply amazing...

  • the man is 500% purely acoustic ^^ no effecbox ^^ but just the biggest and strongest preamp that can be :)

  • its not the "strongest preamp" dude :)

  • woooops never mind ^^ i'm french :d

  • I thougt so too. But the sound that he gets in this perticular song sounds a bit "effected"??? Any experience with Effect pedals that might give this kind of sound?? Thanx.

  • Anyone know if he uses som kind of effectbox??? In that case....what kind??? love the sound....

  • Love the transition to waltzing mathilda :)

  • anyone hear lewis and clark around the 1 minute mark ;]

  • I'll buy that! Haha

  • Aaaah...Waltzing Matilda...sweet.

  • It's called "The Jolly Swagman"

  • Yeah I know, but to Aussies, the second part of the song will always be Waltzing Matilda...that's where that tune comes from.

"Jolly Swagman" is one of the lines from the song. Waltzing Matilda is seen as our real national anthem here.

Tommy's turned it into his own version now which is just beautiful.

  • Ok I understand. Srry, didn't know you meant it that way. Thx for the correction btw.

  • isn't a waltzing mathilda a slow and calm walk across the bush ? I recall I read something about it but I can't remember what...

  • A waltzing matilda is to walk from place to place looking for work with all your belongings wrapped in a cloth on your back.

    Basically like the original hobo's

It described the Swagmen or Squatters in Australia.

    Great song too! hahah.

  • Didn't know that

    The more you know!

  • Doesn't the rating say enough :P

  • ECCEZIONALE, FANTASTICO!!!!

  • 3 guitars in 1... Damn, it's impossible, but I think he likes to do an impossible things :D

  • no, cantina senese is different

  • no its called jolly swagman canitna senese is another song

  • I love the way he brings in the bass a few bars in - it really puts life into the melody. Thnx for the post, I really wanted to know what this song was called!!

  • This song called

    The Jolly Swagman.

One of my favorites, check Imaik's version of this.

  • Well, the middle part is Waltzing Matilda, but the rest is completely original.

  • Hah i though Jolly Swagman was called Waltzing Matilda?

  • In the song Waltzing Matilda there is reference to a Jolly Swagman - this was the inspiration for this song and the reason he plays Waltzing Matilda at its end.

  • The more I listen to this song the more I like it. It does sound like Tall Fiddler and Lewis and Clark a little, but its still its own song. I like it alot.

  • Thats a great song. He is completely amazing. If only I were that good...... :(

  • The greatest man that has ever lived!!! honestly all guitar players get to work, because it will take a life time to play this good!!!

  • Absolutely stunning!

  • Ha - sounds a bit like Lewis and Clark ran into a Tall Fiddler somewhere along the way. Anyone else hear it, or is it just my imagination? Either way, I never get tired of listening to Tommy play.

  • Yeah, ya got that right. It's odd that he jammed those two songs together, and doesn't seem to think we'd catch it.

But even so... he's always a joy to listen to, no matter what.

  • Well spotted, true tommy fans!

  • I wasn't overly impressed when I heard this a few months back, but now that Tommy has refined it, it's sounding really cool! I think it was wise that he skipped Waltzing Matilda at the start. Sounded nice and crisp here too! Thanks for posting!

  • HOH!

  • Good stuff. There are a few other videos of this song up on youtube, but it seems Tommy increased the tempo a bit here. I think this tempo is much better for the song, sounds much more lively. :)

  • As far as I know, this is called "The Jolly Swagman", a modification and interpretation of and addition to the Australian classic "Waltzing Matilda".
