@nobleonelarry467 Ivy King was not 10 MT, it was the largest yield pure fission bomb ever at 500KT. Ivy Mike was 10MT, but was not dropped. The bomb was housed in a specially built cab.
@falkerhard Well, they needed that ominous music for the power of suggestion, that there was this awe-inspiring unleashing of ( Old Testament ) God-like power. If you watch this with Lady Gaga's "Starstruck", with its very upbeat, cheerful refrain, "baby 'cause you blow my heart up" then you will feel differently about this, and see that it is faked footage. The wavy line special effects were used again in the movie "The Matrix"
@mooninquirer Lady Gaga's Starstruck proves that this is fake? Dude wtf is wrong in your head? And speaking of the Matrix it was made almost 50 years after this test. Neat how The Matrix having ground breaking special effects had to revert to half a decade old graphics to accomplish this task.
@aardvark9100 Because without the ominous music, there is nothing there. And "The Matrix" used the wavy line image, but it was much improved. By the way, other atomic explosions do NOT show a wavy line image. They are all very different. This image here is VERY crude. It hardly proves anything. And the witnesses should have been wearing ear protection, like anyone firing a gun at the range. Even with black powder, a small canon will produce a deafening sound.
None of us here have the necessary knowledge and up-to-date intel to make an informed decision on nuclear policy. You are all idiots if you think otherwise.
who cares? you want no nuclear bombs? you think pakistan and russia will get rid of there nukes when USA, Uk and France do? more likley they will destroy us
@feeblezak Russia wont destroy us. Although we arent allies, we dont hate each other. Pakistan however, would nuke us in a flash if they could. But Russia... They wouldnt.
this is the largest yield for a pure fission bomb, its extremely dangerous to try to make such a large bomb that only runs off fission because of critical mass
are you mad? then should they have retaliated with the "Tsar Bomba"? which could wield times as much? Yeah lets us just all start nuking people! who's up for north Korea?
Yes. It was 20X as powerful but it was NOT a weapon. It was as big as a school bus and required a building's worth of refrigeration equipment for the reaction to take place. Codename: Castle Bravo was the US' first Hydrogen weapon tested.
Tsar Bomba was a status symbol. The Russians have always been a little short between the legs and thus have felt the need to make giant things like the tsar cannon and tsar bell. MIRVs are the state of the art, not Tsar Bombas.
MIRVs would do more damage then a Tsar Bomba. You dont need big yield nukes to kill millions. Russian used bigger yields to make up for the lack of accuracy there icbms have.
@dzuboar your a dumb ass. Do you have any fucking idea how powerful the soviet union was back then. Its like tryng to kill a bear with an airsoft gun. With Russia being the bear, and the USA being the dumb ass hunter with the airsoft gun
This was not Ivy Mike. Ivy Mike was not even a "bomb" in the traditional sense - the device was the size of a building. I agree with ShaneKorte - this is Ivy King, which took place 2 weeks after Ivy Mike and was the largest fission-only test carried out by the US (or at least, the largest fission test that the US admits to).
This is king shot. not mike shot. King shot was a high yield fission weapon, not an H bomb. It was 500Kilotons I believe. Making it the most powerful fission device ever.
from nowhere thats the music from the movie he got it from .its called trinity and beyond i believe. i saw it some years ago. oh but still fresh in my mind
Yeah, they do leave a small pause in the video. I read that at the Trinity test it took the sound something like 4 minutes to reach them, long after the initial double flash had gone and there was just a mushroom cloud.
We could destroy ourselves in the search for ever mightier weapons....

true, this is just a normal fission bomb of 500 kilotons. The Tsar Bomba was 50 MEGAtons.
