Damn, i have never expected to hear such GOOD music from Alan Parsons Project i tought they mosly play instrumental but this is just AWSOME!! thumbs up!
WHY IS EVERY1 HATIN ON KANYE , HE RESPECTS ALAN PARSONS MUSIC AND ENJOYS IT, WHY NOT BRING IT BACK TO THE NEW AGE ..ANYWAYS ALAN PARSONS HAD TO CLEAR IT BEFORE HE CAN SAMPLE IT SO THEY DIDNT MIND. EVERY1 NEEDS TO CHILL
@xboneless What paint and brushes are to art instruments are to music; what drawing is to art playing instruments is to music; what the picture from technical skill and imagination is to art the song is to music; what copy&paste/tracing.is to art sampling is to music. Sampling takes the same amount of talent/skill as digital collage. He cannot physically make anything so he uses modern technology to leach off the work of others and then dares to say he is a musical genius. That's why
I'm a Gen-Y. I found this piece on my own when my sib sent me a collection of APP. I'd never heard this one before, but I really adore it.
There is so much undiscovered, missed music. I am a fan of APP, Kamelot (symphonic power metal), Dimmu Borger (black metal), TSO (rock), Satriani, Enya, Secret Garden...
I am open to a variety. So I will say this: Why obsess on Kanye when there is so much awesome like this and Nightwish and whatnot?
wtf! Do you not get who ALAN PARSONS actually is? Shame on any of you trying to put such a great man with such a puny human as Mr. West. Alan was working with the Beatles way before he took to his PROJECT. As a musical engineer extraordinaire it is foolish to try and belittle him by trying to compare him to such.
Hey arsenalgunna11....I'm gonna let you finish, but I just wanna say that APP has been around for 40 years because they've built a solid reputation in the music world over the course of decades.......come back in 40 years and let us know if Kanye is still hittin' hard and true.....otherwise, he's just an opportunist of the times.
@libertines24 He is not a genius. I like kanye, but he is only considered that among Pop artists, who don't even count as musicians to me. Most of the geniuses are not on the radio because the music requires you to pay attention to detail, rather than having an easy listen that pop provides.
@aresnalgunna11 lol i hate to break it to you, but people don't care about the underground shit. Truth is Kanye is a genius and is better than almost anyone. He has made legendary albums. I hate to break it to you but it doesn't matter what YOU think because in order to become a legendary band you have to be somewhat successful even radiohead has sold millions of albums
@libertines24 I understand people don't care, which is why he's only considered a genius among pop artists. He has made great albums, but he doesn't compare to most rappers in the 90's when it comes to skill, but obviously it goes back to the pop thing. That's what will be remembered, and while it's a shame, we just have to accept it. Nothing wrong with Radiohead selling millions, or Kanye for that matter. I don't see what your point was with that. The Libertines are fucking awesome though.
@aresnalgunna11 kanye is the reviewed artist of the last decade dude. The only artist who has gotten two five star reviews out of rolling stones, and indie websites like Pitchfork love him. Kanye has pushed music into the mainstream again its a shame people hate on him
@vincenzolaspesa A very talented, if not relatively egotistical rapper. I highly recommend listening to "Gone" or "Good Morning" to get a good feel for his music.
He's getting mentioned here because his song "Heartless" (a rather mediocre song at that) heavily sampled this song.
Such a great Slideshow! Many thanks to share! It really fits perfectly with the song! Why people not doing something similar again in 2011? Such a wonderful piece of Art!
Stop talking about Kanye. Yes he's a talented musician, but no sample of his can ever compare with the heartbreaking beauty of Alan Parsons Project's music....
@randomlargetext I believe that is one of the flute section of a pipe organ. I'm guessing as it's polyphonic it is played by hands so...yeah pipe organ.
guys the guitar is centered to one of the speakers. remove it and you have the sample, People saying fuck kanye are being idiots; he is bringing many more people to recognize the goodness of this band.
@AcebeatGroup That doesn't even make sense. What black dude? 1/10 of them are incarcerated. I'm farther advanced in intellect than you, in age, I have no idea but with your mind your only excuse would be adolescence.
Why does it have to be fuck Kanye tho? He obviously has the same music taste as all of us. Jeeezzus. music fans are crazy. None of you would say that shit to Kanye if you saw him for this fucking sample.lol
"The title of the album was inspired by Eric Woolfson's visit to Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in Billingham, England, where the first thing he saw was a street with miles of pipes, no people, no trees and a sign that said 'Ammonia Avenue'. The album focused on the possible misunderstanding of industrial scientific developments from a public perspective and a lack of understanding of the public from a scientific perspective."
If there are any Friends of Bill out there, they will recognize the lines, "and word by word they handed down the light that shines today and those who came at first to scoff remained behind to pray..." and ".... and stone by stone they built it high until the sun broke through -- a word of hope -- a shining light -- Ammonia Avenue."
Why on earth do you think he even used the words Ammonia Avenue?????
@1973kasiunia Yo Alan Parson's project I'm really happy for you and imma let you finish but Kanye is one of the greatest musicians of all time. OF ALL TIME!
Snatch the sample from the song if you can ...than carry a pot of folgers to the door and let the dog out ...if you can young gung-fu..Then Go west ..go very far west...or you could go east actually .and when you get an opportunity ..kick a guy in the knee really hard ..go kane go
I don't understand all the lyrics so well, but the music makes me shiver - this is so beautiful and meaningfull, even without any words. I dedicate these tunes to all my love ones- this is to you from my heart !
Ammonia Avenue is a place devoid of life with emptiness and loneliness, that many will find at sometime in our lives, and with no rhyme or reason or harmony we understand nothing in the words of the great father, we feel no hope, and as we grow old we think back and wonder what is the point of it all, it will all pass away with no remembrance, but with no faith and questions we begin to doubt so we arrive once again at ammonia avenue and maybe start to realize why and it leads us to light.

@DoritosBen i want to drown u in bean dip, dorito... lol... go post positive comments, on kanye's tubes..., and u should apologize, like kanye, has to do, almost every so often... its easy to get pissed... just like a 2 yr old... aks yo self y u so wack...
RIP Eric Woolfson. Yes, your songs were one of often sadness, but you expressed sadness very well ; and because you did it well, you gave people, who at various stages in their lives encountered hardship, solace and a shoulder to lean on through your music.
Taken from the avenue online - "AP: Theoretically it was inspired by Eric's visit to a petro-chemical plant in Middlesborough, after he'd struck up a friendship with the boss of ICI. Eric was just fascinated by this area containing all these hugely pollutive things; everything was pipes, factories and steam. Coincidentally, another very 1984-ish image. Among all the pipes and steam there was this street called Ammonia Avenue."
Apologies about that comment. I was VERY drunk. It really is a beautiful song. But there was some merit to what I said. Alan has a very, very melancholy side which I prefer to stay away from.
@berylman i actually enjoy the melancholy cerebral metaphysical i love edgar allan poes writings too don't get me wrong i have fun but i'm well aware of things beyond just sight perception actually i think eric was the deep one he after all wrote the lyrics to this wonderful track i wish i could of met him his lyrical writing was as is any ones writings part of the man and his spirit i enjoy his music and of course alans production of the songs.

really a great tune. Nicely arranged and sung as usual. this one is not overdone either. Just is about reality.

Before I depart I love this quote:
"Those who came to scoff will find a way to pray"
Heavy indeed.

I had no idea that my comment would generate such fomentation. Don't get me wrong. Upon re visitation and mediation I have seen the meaning.

RIP Eric Woolfson. Yes, your songs were one of often sadness, but you expressed sadness very well ; and because you did it well, you gave people, who at various stages in their lives encountered hardship, solace and a shoulder to lean on through your music.

One of most awesome song of my alltime. I like to listen this on a long bus travel after school when im tired as hell..

The meaning, once and for all.
And word by word they handed down the light that shines today:
"And those who came at first to scoff, remained behind to pray"
"And those who came at first to scoff, remained behind to pray"
Handed down, word by word - a book.
Those lines are not merely thoughts being expressed in the song - it's a quote from the book he's talking about.
The precise quote is:
"and though perhaps he came to scoff, he may remain to pray."
It will blow your mind.

@oneofthejapanese

I love some Alan Parsons... but why does every song sound like some weepy regretful shit and a product of a broken ass man? Answer that.
berylman 1 year ago
@berylman Well, If someone perceives the musiic only with his hind body parts, he must to seak more suitable tools, NOT THIS SONG
