well almost all animals have sometype of emotional feelings that acctually help them survive in the wild. its known as adrenaline, but lots of animals have what you might call pointless emotions like what dogs and us have. these emotions alow you to think abstractly. so adrenaline is instinct and the other is abstract, and most animals with a decent sized brain have both I think.
Maybe some wheels have feelings and others are animatronic whales. Maybe Disney has a whole fleet of animatronic whales. So, it COULD be that some whales have feelings and some whales don't. Perhaps Disney imposed artificial intelligence on his fleet of animatronic whales, so even the animatronic whales have feelings. Perhaps all whales on the planet feel. Flys feel too. Doubt that?

So, like us, they can be trained; however, like us, they can rebel against their training. All animals are intelligent, including the ones we eat. I didn't know about the frontal lobes, so I just looked it up. Not trying to put you down--just was curious about this.

They definitely seem to cause a lot of suffering when they play with and kill marine animals, but the idea of "cruelty" just isn't in their culture. I guess I interpret cruelty as "intending to hurt something for no reason." In humans, our compassion has evolved to the point that it can even extend to other species, but that is very unusual. The evolution of social behavior seems to make it possible though. Quite cool.
@SnowbirdFlock They do seem to have their periods of great joy, especially after whacking a sea lion to death and eating it. I imagine them saying "they're just sea lions son--they don't feel pain." It does seem that they never made a practice of killing humans, which is pretty interesting considering how powerful they are. Simply the most amazing animals--they seem to have very complex social lives and relationships. Maybe the ones that eat only salmon are the "vegetarians" of the orca world.

Japan killing whales is bad? I've killed more animals by eating fast food alone and I hardly eat fast food but I do eat a balanced diet. Besides, Japan whales the ones that reproduce as fast as rabbits basically. Besides, if my cat/dog can eat meat as do many "wild animals" then people can too. Living isn't a crime. If you want to lay the blame, I say arrest mother nature for a bad example. :P Besides, meat is good for your brain. I'll never be Vegan/Vegetarian.

I've had many pets, and my first vinyl record was a humpback whale recording from National Geographic (it was square too) and was actually confiscated by parents for playing it constantly. "Thou shalt not kill" doesn't say anything specific about WHAT you're not supposed to kill. To get you to live in sin the religeons propagated the myth that animals don't have souls.

They do. I believe that orca whales are more cruel to blue whales than sharks are. And I believe that blue whales are the gentlest of giants!
