I saw this at 125th once while waiting for an uptown 6. I heard the R142A decelerate and stop, and was surprised when I heard the announcement say it was a Bronx-bound 5, I was expecting to hear it say 4.
I really wish the MTA would put a combination of R142A and R142s on the 2 and 5 trains and the 6 train would get the combination as well. The 4 train could just get R142s...
There are R142A's on the 5, only when they are closed off from the White Plains Road/Esplanade (Dyre Ave) lines, due to construction on that supertight curve between 138th G Concourse, and 149th G Concourse. It is like that becuase 5 line will have to use what's available; the R412's and R142A's that the 4 line normally uses.
i think the seventh avenue trains should be all R142 and the lexington avenue trains all R142A

How come the R142A always look somewhat shinier than the R142s?
LightningFever86 3 years ago 2
probably because they are treated more carefully.
nizaralvarez1943257 2 years ago
No. Because they are newer.
NewYorkEmperor555 2 years ago
maybe!
nizaralvarez1943257 2 years ago
Yeah. Or the MTA is too lazy to even clean them.....
NewYorkEmperor555 2 years ago
probably!

@NewYorkEmperor555 because the R142a is made by Kawasaki.....which has glossy cars....and the r142 is made by Bombardier......which has dull cars.

the 4 train line should get more R142A's and the 6 train line should get R142's
nizaralvarez1943257 2 years ago
I agree with that.

Well, I'd say the 2/5 should be all R142A's, the 6 all R142's, and the 4, probably stays the same.

Yea but the only time I see a r142a 5 iz if the 5 iz suspended between 149 St-GC and E 180 St.

There are a couple of R142A 2 videos on here. Too bad I've only seen an R142A 2 only once in person.

Finally, proof of the existence of an R142A on the 5, Railfan02, you are definitely the best.
