  • Fabulous interpretation, just fabulous!!!

  • This is terribly good. The tune works perfectly on this banjo and keeps it's Finnish feel. Easily one of my favourite banjo videos here on youtube. The cello ones are great too. Would be nice to see you on a Piccolo!

  • That's very interesting. Love hearing you play..

  • I love this Cathy. I've learnt this tune from your tab and modified it a bit. I also bought a OT-800 on the strength of your videos but took it back because I couldn't get along with it. Also, the 1st string nut slot was much too close to the edge of the fingerboard. How's yours?

I may get the Short Scale version of this banjo when it comes out here in the UK later on this year.

Anyway - I love your videos and your very different approach. Many Thanks

    Les

  • Fantastic! I'm not from Finland, but I am Finnish (25%), and love the culture. Olette Suomalainen?

    You're very talented! :D

  • Great playing! The tune - well I hate and love it... I´m a Finn!

  • Awesome!!

    Greetings from Hungary!

  • I love this tune, it's one of my favorites. I play it with guitar. I've also made couple of arrangements of it. One for beginners and one to advanced players (played like button accordion). It suits really nice to banjo. Play more Finnish folk tunes please!

  • Sounds almost arabic with that banjo! :O AWESOME

  • Just awesome!

  • WOW WOW WOW AND WOW AGAIN. F*+:ing tove this tune. I need to learn this one. I was at the "Kattinge traeffet" this weekend and a guy showed me the tune and sended me the link to the video and the tab.I was getting tiered to listening to my own playing. this is just what i need to keep on picking the banjo. thanks 'couse i LOVE the instrument.

  • Wonderful work - I have never heard this song played on the banjo. This song is very emotional for for Finnish people since it reminds them of Karelia which was lost to the USSR in the 1940s (very complicated story, but sad...) The song is also popular in the rest of Scandinavia.

  • Bravo Cathy!! I hear a bit of a brush sound at some points. Is that your right hand hitting the banjo head? Nice effect. Is that intentional? I would assume so, as you have wonderful control over your right hand.

  • Thanks for your kind words. The sound is from my right thumb hitting the head. It's not entirely intentional but luckily for me it usually lands on the beat. When I do it intentionally, it's to emphasize the rhythm.

  • I love these Finnish polkas and play one or two on the concertina. Great work

  • i loved this. this song is one of my favorites, and to hear it this way really gives it a unique feel. keep up the good work!

  • Pretty cool!

  • Very beautiful. Im happy that foreign people like this old finnish classic tune.

  • Tää on paras! Sä soitat hyvin!

  • Wow!! You are very good! I'm off to check out your channel. I saw you on birdog's channel!

    5*

    Gretsch'n

  • Just Amazing, Cathy. I am really enjoying your playing...especially the European tunes. Your instructional videos are really wonderful, too. Not the same old stuff. Keep it up; us wanna-be bnjo players are loving it :)

  • I've messed around with a fretless in a shop but haven't really spent time with one. It would be fun to add more funky slides.

  • that was fun! so beautifully played that it is a shame there were not dancers to match!! loved it!

  • Fantastic. How do like that banjo?

  • I'm really enjoying the OT-800. One happy surprise for me is that in addition to having a more energetic sound than my Stewart, it can also play more quietly--it's just more responsive in general.

  • Beautiful banjo. Beautiful playing. I play the Gold Tone bc350.
