  • And by the temperment of your horses would you fin them suitable for someone who has been riding for a few years and has alot of time on their hands?

  • How much time should they spend in the dry-lot area a day?

  • @N3ONCH1CKEN : When the grass is "rich" (growing good; not dry) ours get about 2 hours out followed by 4 hours in the dry lot. We rotate them back out so it ends up about 4-6 hours of pasture per day. Once the pasture grass is dry and short (before hay cutting this can sometimes happen) they can be out all day. This year has been wetter than normal, so the grazing areas are growing good and most days the out/in cycle has been used. After a frost, they usually are on pasture 24 hours straight.

  • if you could answer this ,that would be awesome....we only have 60 acres and maybe will get more but would a fresian horse be find living in one relatively large pasture or do they need more then one? And would grass be the best terrain for them?

  • @N3ONCH1CKEN : I think horses usually do better if there is more than one. Our guys and gals all seem to recognize "their breed" and stay fairly close to each other.

  • @N3ONCH1CKEN : Oh, and grass would be fine. You might have to have a "dry-lot" non-grass area too; otherwise, they may tend to put on too much weight. Ours are "easy-keepers" and rotate through 4-6 pasture areas that are 5-6 acres in size. We let 3 of the areas grow until "haying-time" and if the used areas get too dry and thin, the herd is moved into a new area after the grass is cut, raked and baled.
