The first time i saw this while play it on the N64 in 1998. I was like "What the hell was that!?" I pressed restart on my console played through the stage to watch it again.
As a teenager playing this game: "I came all this way for a boss fight and this is what I get? ...I simultaneously feel like the game just gave me the middle finger and gave me what I didn't know I wanted."
Every weekend for a long time my dad would take me to the store to rent a game. More than anything I rented this game a lot. My friend would come over and we were instantly hooked on the story, humor, and gameplay.
Really fond memories looking back on this game. I'd say it's my favorite but Harvest Moon 64 holds a special place in my heart too, so it's a tie.
I did love this game though, fantastically lighthearted and played pretty well. I wish we had more ridiculous games like this today.
there has never been a game since this one as ridiculous, absurd, and downright goofy as Mystical Ninja Staring Goemon. Games are so serious and full of themselves nowadays. We miss slapstick comedy and a laughtrack!
I don't remember much of my reactions to this game. The main thing I remember is that this game introduced me to Japan and that everything was just downright silly. Oh, and the lyrics subtitles confused me. Not only was I introduced to Japan, but the Japanese language as well; all at the age of like eight years old.
@KumaOso16 Actually same here, haha. That was years ago, and I'm a Japanese major in college now. I'm about to leave to study abroad there, and I can't help but think that most of it started with this game.
If anyone wants the Japanese lyrics: Mayoeru kohitsujitachi yo (迷える子羊達よ ) Saa miru ga ii (さあ見るがいい) My Stage (マイ・ステージ) Gorgeous My Stage (ゴージャス・マイ・ステージ) No ni saku bara (野に咲く薔薇) Amai kaori (甘い香り) Futari tsutsumu melody (二人包むメロディー) (Sweet Memory) Yume no tsuzuki konya wa (夢の続き今夜は) Oh! Gorgeous My (オー! ゴージャス・マイ) My Stage (マイ・ステージ)
I played this when I was little. I had absolutely NO CLUE what the game was about, or what was happening. xD I don't know what happened to my copy, but my parents sold all of my other games and my N64, anyway....
