This is an Eagle Owl. it is not native to North America. We are licensed by the Federal government to posess her. She will be used for captive breeding in the future. you can see her all grown up on Mythbusters the birds on a car myth.
the ONLY thing that bewilders me about this is how can 18 people click the dislike button? really? REALLY? those people are just pissed an owl didn't pet THEIR dog.
Requesting permission to mash this up with Falcor's line from 'The Never-Ending Story' where he says, "Would you mind scratching behind my right ear? I can never quite reach it." XD Of course, I'll have to mirror to the video since the owl is scratching the woofy's left ear.
What an amazing video! This is one of those times, I love video and You Tube. You could never tell this story and have people really understand the amazing interaction. Thank you so much for postng this!
This is an amazing video on two counts. The obvious is the interaction between the dog and owl. The second count is that I could swear that is my dog except she's sitting right next to me. I also have a Griffon but the weird thing is that her markings and even her mannerisms are the same as your Griff. Even the way she moves her eyes and the way she sighs when she puts her head down! Thanks for sharing this amazing video.
This dog looks EXACTLY like a dog my family used to have. His name was Shrek. We had to put him down a few summers ago due to kidney failure. Thank you so much for posting this! It brought back tons of memories. This is something Shrek would have done :)
@bon14789 Yes, an animal bred for docility over tens of thousands of years by humans and a bird that relentlessly stalks and tears apart living prey every day, good examples of "love"
LoL! I think it's too cute that the owl is using it's talons as though they were "hands" to pet Annie!!
And, Annie does seem very good-natured about the whole thing. Guess this isn't the first time Artemis has "petted" Annie. ;D All in all a very sweet natured video.
What I really liked about it is that it was organic - it wasn't staged, there weren't a bunch of people milling about "ooo-ing" and "aaah-ing". This is just a nice vid of an "everyday" afternoon with doggie and adolescent owl!
Thanks for the kind words. Annie has been around many baby raptors. it was captured on a warm sunday morning whild doing chores. I was using a Flip Camera. we have more video of them playing but it was shot on an iphone.
yeah in fact the dog doesnt really like the bird haha, she's just accepting her proximity. She is making a lot of calming signals, which mean she is trying to calm her down, like we would do by eating our nails our shaking our leg.
BTW, Annie is a really good dog, tolerance and respect like this is pretty rare with out best 4 legged friends
A wirehaired pointing griffon and a brown roan spinone look a lot alike. Could be either. Need to see her standing or moving. Very cute video either way!
You are correct The dog Annie is our 5 year old Wirehair Pointing Griffon. She has been used for falconry and our bird control company and helped raise our various Raptors. A few months ago I came home at night and sitting right on the chair (outside my front door) when I got out of the car was an owl, the first and only time I have ever seen an owl. It really freaked me out just sitting there like a statue, than it went, "HOO", and and flew off. Creepy

Poor owl, it looks like a fledgeling. Is it trying to get the dog to feed it like it's owl parents would have? I hope it's in some kind of animal rehab!
