  • great video, keep it up, get rid of all the bogies including the fake duprees and make them call themselves tribute bands...

  • That idiot lawyer knows that group is cheating people. I have never heard more legal mumbo jumbo in my life. I am sick and tired of idiot lawyers. (Not all lawyers are idiots. Some actually do try and help people for the right reasons.)

  • The law states..an original member OR trademark holder... Larry Marshack owns the trademark to The Drifters...legally he can put anyone he wants as The Drifters.

  • WAY TO GO CHARLIE! THEY SHOULD BE HIDING IN SHAME!

  • There Jesse James without a gun. Imposters are crooks. I went to hear the coasters in Las Vegas at a loung show and looking at the group only one was an original. The rest are dead.

But at the same time there were other Coster groups using the name.

  • I'm not being inflammatory but people should know by the ticket; names of the group, legally they should not impersonate the actual names of the originals. With that said by acts performing these concerts is a benefit to them and music. Look at all the Elvis impersonators! We know athletes in the 50's-80's never made money either compared to todays standards like musicians. Without these impostors the music dies because the originals cannot be everywhere. Their music lives on.

  • Those fakes don't care about the music or the bands,,Its just another way to steal,,Why are they not in cells hiding the soap??? As we say in Britain,,,'the laws an ass'.

Give him his money and and jump off the board walk!!!

If Charlie needs a hand taking back his money,,,I would be more than pleased to back him.

  • On the real deal, the Truth In Music Act fell short. It has only stopped this theivery in a few cases. Tribute acts should not be allowed to perform without paying a licenseing fee to the trademark owner and in turn the trademark owner pay a percentage to the artists on those records. Tribute acts are still identity theft. They are still making money off of a trademarked name and someone elses blood, sweat and tears. This law needs to be modified quick. Contact Bowser if you feel the same.

  • As a veteran DJ, I've hosted lots of oldies concerts and know hundreds of original artists. I'll never forget going to host a concert at Rye Playland by the Angels. There, posing as the originals, were four girls all born well after the real group broke up. Incensed, I then went onstage, told the story of the REAL group and then introduced the fakers as a "tribute" to the Angels. Afterwards I confronted their shameless manager and phoned the REAL Angels, who sued and put him out of business.

  • If charlie or bowser need any help collecting that money or going to these "shows" to bring out the truth... I'll be there.

  • As a former performer who did a very successful nightclub act portraying a famous singer, I commend those able singers who carry on this music, but they MUST present themselves as tribute performers rather than pass themselves off as original members of the group. I opened for the Drifters (or perhaps it was the Coasters) on occasion, & vice-versa, but now I truly wonder whether they were the orignal members or not. NEVER try to fake it. Do the right thing. Own up to who you are.

  • I think I saw the Real Elvis a Little while ago. He works down the chip shop.

  • I saw The Drifters last year. They sang two or three Drifters songs the rest of the set were disco tunes and show tunes. The guys in the group were probably no older than 35 or 40. What a rip off!

  • Please have a look at this video, it stops continuosly....it's so nice too see all these

    stars toghether.

  • When fans go to see the New York Yankees play baseball, are they seeing the "original" Yankees? No. Same thing. Right>?

  • @NEMstrodamus Wrong. Music is different even bands that loose a member have the decency to change their name, The Grateful Dead, to the Dead Ect. this is despicable. even list yourself as the Drifters Tribute.

  • @tylerwc1 I know that Dennis Edwards fronts a group that sings Temptations songs, but he can't call his group The Temptations. Thanks to a legal decision, the group is called Dennis Edwards and the Temptations Review.

  • Thanks John .... My wife and I have seen a few groups we wondered about. Maybe this is the answer.

  • What can we do to help.

  • We should support the true doo wop stars and not the fakes out there.

  • @YouMooks Very difficult to support the true stars, many have passed away. I know Little Anthony still sings, but I'm not sure that all of the original Imperials are with him now. Larry Chance of the Earls still sings and again, not sure his back up Earls are original. When you buy doo wop CD's be careful about what you buy, if you examine the writing (small print) it will tell you if your getting the original group.

  • @jgv007 Most likely they're not original members, but I would be content if there was even just one original member. The Four Tops only have one original member stil lliving.

  • @StoogeWatcher And I think there is one platter still alive is Herb Reed and he's performing as Herb Reed & the Platter's, but as you should know, without Tony Williams as the lead singer, it's not the Platter's. Tony is deceased and the greatest songs recorded by the Platter's was when Tony was on lead and that was from 1954 to 1960. End of story.

  • This been goin on for years! The "Drifters" always tour New Zealand every year.

  • Sad that these crooks can get away with it. The worst are the promoters who pull the strings. I would love to see/hear a group of 70 & 80 year old men singing, much better than a cover band/tribute group performing under a stolen name.

  • Way to go Charlie!

  • Way to go Charlie. I'm with you man.

  • It's so upsetting to see clones like these reaping the benefits that the orginal members worked so hard for. All of these guys should be letting fans know that they are more like a TRUBUTE group, not the original nor even close! The only original living member still alive and performing is Charlie Thomas. It's such a shame what happened to these wonderful legends! Thanks for posting this! Charlie Thomas' producer / friend!

  • Im not aware that Herb Reed from the original Platters died? I saw him recently in a show. Has he passed away?

  • Back in the day, Black faces didn't make the album cover, even though it was their music! The original music of the 50's/60's is still going strong in the Washington, DC area. We can stop these "fakes" by not going to see them perform!

  • @pookiedoowop Actually I think people should picket the venues where they perform, and in that way they educate the public, get media attention for the cause and create a boycott these fakes can not survive.

  • There is a difference between covering and calling yourself a member of a group when you've never been inside a recording studio.

  • maxine porter is a liar! perhaps if she knew more about the people she represented she would not be saying their picture werent on the covers! she isnt doing the artists any justice by saying that! many were on covers and well represented and photographed!

  • @sickkat44 True that many were featured on album covers, though look at the way many of Nat King Cole's LP covers had been lightened to have more appeal to white music buyers.

  • @Midwesshighflyin

It's only called covering, when you're singing someone else's song. It's called fraud, when you're calling yourself that someone else, and singing their music. It's the equivalent of going to see the Beatles, and not one of the members is Paul, Ringo, George, or John.

  • Tribute or fraud they aren't paying the respect the original musicians deserve

  • these lying imposters need to be shot, arrested, convicted then executed for stealing!

  • first, its terrible that there are so many frauds out there, but the younger guys have to be incorporated somehow or the music will die out. second, the woman isnt quite up to speed with her knowledge of black artists on the covers of their albums. little richard, the penguins, lloyd price, platters, cadillacs, teenagers, and many others ALL HAVE THEIR PICTURE ON THE COVER! and they were very well publicized so kids would go to the show, then buy the 45 or album!

  • You are absolutely right about the LP covers. The Platters, Coasters, and Drifters were almost always on their covers.

  • thanks dan. how can someone go to a show 40 or more years later and see guys in their 20's and 30' and think theyre actually the guys that recorded the song? they people that go to the shows have to ask questions about their authenticity before they buy tickets. the artists got ripped off then and theyre getting ripped off again. even that agent broad in her comment shows that she doesnt know whats going on!

  • I just saw Charlie Thomas in DFW and he was outstanding! Give him his due and his money!

  • sorry, but that wasn't the original Drifters...the name was sold to a different group after Clyde Mcpatter and the original Drifters were no longer together easy..you but the name and find another group to use it...I forget how many different drifters groups there were

  • Nobody or a group of nobodies should be able to go around and claim to be who they are not. It's very deceiving to the public & especially senior citizens who think they are getting the real thing & especially after the phony performance, they sell their phony CD's to people who don't know any better. I'm a Doo Wopper & I can tell immediately a phony recording from the original. get smart people & don't go to these phony shows.

  • @jgv007 Good points. I spent a week seeing shows in Branson(yes, it's not just doo-wop music with these fakes), and most of the audience is old people with bad eye sight and they think they are seeing the real act. Even the posters & marquees have the word "tribute" in small letters. They really think they are seeing the real Eagles, Dolly Parton, etc.

  • Someone always trying to make a buck off of someone elses life of hard work!

  • Those new singer should come up with an origingal name for their doo-wop group and not group names of the past!

Bowzer's right on! They should, "YIP YIP YIP YIP BOOM BOOM BOOM GET A JOB!!"

  • Sad But True. Short Story. In 1971 Wolfman Jack, His Manager & Myself were arrested by Kern County Sherrifs after showing up to appear at the Fairgrounds. They said "this isn't Wolfman. The real Wolfman was here 2 weekes ago & wore a rubber mask" So even Legit artists can be hurt by FAKES. I have Charlie Thomas here in Little Rock. There is nothing like the real thng baby

  • When they advertise a show "The Original________" then you go and see its NOT the original artists....that's when I get hot. Traveled 300 miles to see the Original Ink Spots. Only 1 was left...and was too old to get on stage and sing.

  • @bro1945 Sorry you got mislead by the tribute band. I was lucky enough to see the real, original Ink Spots in Cannon Beach, Oregon in 1979. About that same year I saw the surviving 3 members of The Mills Brothers in SF at the Fairmont Hotel, what a show!

  • GIVE HIM HIS MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I know this is going on and it pisses me off! Thanks for posting.

  • Ditto!

  • Go Bowser! and ALL. Truth,Justice and the American Way.Cough up the Cash Fakesand Give it to the real person or their Families.

  • Buck Ram and Jean Bennett spent $5,000,000 trying to stop phoney Platters groups. The end result was money pissed over the fence. The Platters were incorporated and their royalties are still paid. And the Platters pictures were on their album covers from the beginning.

  • GIMME MY MONEY

  • RIGHT ON, CHARLIE!!! You and Bowser keep it up!!!

  • This video is the perfect example of what happens when people aren't honest. The Original groups "deserve" to work b/c they are the ones who wrote and sang and performed the songs for years.

  • Good for you Charlie. Fake musicians that can not make their own identity stealing from those who work so hard through the years to make one. I can see if the phony Drifters want to bill themselves as a cover band playing the original Drifters music but to claim they are originals is FRAUD !! Keep up the good work Bowzer exposing the phonies !!

  • Amazing video. God bless you Bowzer and everyone else who stands up for the TRUTH IN MUSIC act!!!!!!!

  • I know exactly what you are saying, and I agree with you 100%. Fortunately, I was never exposed to any of these promoters or agents. If I ever saw an imposter group, I would know immediately!!

Well I guess, at this point in time, if you want to hear every original doo wop artist, just pop in a CD lol....amen

  • Often imitated but never duplicated. I agree totally with what this gentlemans said, groups are being exploited. They are plagiarizing musicians having the absurdity to pass themselves off as originals. The promoters and agents know exactly what their intentions are with this type of callous behaviour but it all has to do with making a quick buck. During the rock and roll era these musicians were exploited had little common knowledge of how the industry functioned.

  • excuse the mispellings lol.. i'm in a rush!!!

  • Ok Bruce, you have to realize that these groups are in late sixties, early seventies by now, so yes of course, they are not all going to be original...but for example..some of the groups I've seen recently i.e. the Classics, Clickettes, Passion, Skyliners (for the most part), Randy and the Rainbows, Chantelles, Johnny Miestro, Little Anthony...these still have the original lead singers... and put on an awesome show.

  • Little Anthony O.D.ed on h

  • Note to beeteep60. Tune in to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame inductions this spring - The 'late' Little Anthony (and a couple of originals) will be ther quite alive to perform, join the Hall and do what they still do oh so very well night after night.

  • ok, hold on just a second here. I'm from Philly and attend at least four doo-wop concerts a year. The announcers are ALWAYS honest, and they will tell you who is original in the group, and who isn't. In any event, if everyone enjoys them, who cares!!!

  • original drifters featured Clyde McPhatter, who started his career with Billy Ward and the Dominos

  • Some errors in this report. For starters, Ben E. King was not an original Drifter. He came on board circa 1959 after the orignal Drifters were disbanded and another group was recruited to call themselves the Drifters. The statement about no faces on albums, at least for The Platters is false. The album shown, "Moonlight Memories" came out after their major success (1961?)I have all the ORIGINAL albums. From thefirst album, the Platters faces were featured on the front.

  • All goes back to the fake Dawns of the 1970s.

  • Fakes have NO cred. It's actually cooler in the underground to have a new group with a new name and do great tribute covers of the trad doo wop groups. Check The Lonely Blue Boys on my channel doing The Del Vikings.

  • okay! so when they have all died what then???I for one like one of the fake Drifter's and the fake Platters and the Fake Impressions. Now what? We can not go see dead performers on stage, hey they remake movies, so what is wrong with others singing dead peoples songs??

  • Hey don't you listen. They all said there is nothing wrong with singing these songs. The problem is advertising the band as the real thing. You have to advertise as a tribute. Man PAY attention.

  • TELL'UM!!! FUCKIN, TELL'UM Ive got origional Drifters Music i know wot the real deal look like no fonies could kid me not with no Doo wop Group. "They Can cover the Blues but better not dare Claim, Coz its theivin Fools and thats a Dog Garn Shame!!! ShooBop bop bop bop!!

  • Go on Charlie thats was up stop as much as u can Bill,Charlie Ben E King stop as much as you can The drifters worked to hard for some else to take there glory

  • There's a Long Island doowop group called Joey & The Paradons which are no relation to the "Diamonds and Pearls" Paradons.

  • This has been going on 25 + years now. In the early 80's I got to see the so called Drifters while in Las Vegas on a Friday night, can't say it was all bad, but they definitely could not fool this old time crony at all. When I returned home to Brooklyn, NY the next day, I ended up in a small club in Flatbush that night (Saturday night) and guess who was there,

    CONTINUED.

  • yup the Drifters, they were no better than the Las Vegas impostors, So I say to one of them, hey I just seen a Drifters show last night in Las Vegas, man you guy's must be exhausted flying around the states. His dumb founded look and quick reply was "Hey

    CONTINUED

  • bartender give my friend here a drink on me, enjoy the show guy" as he quickly returned back to his group. I now live in Las Vegas for the past 17 yrs. and shows with the so-called Platters, Coasters, Marvelettes, can be seen nightly. And get this, after each show

    CONTINUED

  • the groups have the audacity to stand behind tables in the hallway where show customers are exiting, signing autographs and trying to sell their CD's, who knows what happened to the so called Drifters. I don't see them on the billboards at this time. Sure their are

    CONTINUED.

  • other impersonator shows around town, but do you think Presley, Monroe, Liberace, Bogart really would have needed the cash even if they were still here. The artists that gave us much of our most cherished memories and fun times got screwed over big time,

    CONTINUED.

  • why shouldn't they be collecting some type of royalties for what they gave us, why because they were not smart enough in marketing their talents, simply trusting their promoters, managers and record companies. Hell I remember a few group members from

    CONTINUED

  • the 50's that got nothing more then a set of false teeth, another great voice purchased him shelf a brand new 1957 fuel injected 409 Chevy. That was it. But yet they all gave us unforgettable times of enjoyment. Do you think those shows out of the Brooklyn

    CONTINUED.

  • Paramount Theater made any early 50's/60's artist millionaires, do you think they could ever put shows together like that again. Heck I don't think anyone had the insight to film even just one those shows professionally. What a shame. You'll never ever see or hear

    CONTINUED.

  • anything like that again, those groups got in there and gave us the greatest rock n' roll shows on earth, never to be duplicated again. Singers whom were kids themselves, never in their wildest dreams did anyone think those very songs would be cherished so much today. CONTINUED

  • Genuine street corner harmony that comes straight from the heart and soul, Is priceless. I'd say let these similar sounding performers do their thing, but pay a percentage back to the originators of whom they are portraying so they can enjoy what they originally created.

  • @AveLguy Thanks to AveLguy for the great comments!

  • Comments that are inflammatory, racist, or contain strong language will be deleted, that includes name calling.

  • Its vals day have some love

  • I totally agree with these guys,if im going to big money for tickets i want the real thing, thats like me trying to buy an original 45 and get a reissue.I think these imposters should give the original guys a take of what they make if there going to use there names

  • I think they need to.......

Yip yip yip yip yip yip yip yip

Mum mum mum mum mum mum

    Get a job

  • They're all becoming dead, And people wana hear the music, so F off

  • so let them hear the music with the real artist not someone claiming to be someone they are not

  • please make this available to be pasted in other places, this needs to be spread around

  • You got it! REDHAIREDMONSTER

Btw. I saw your favorites.... great taste in music.

  • thanx:-)

  • And by the way, I'm 32 years old, and contrary to what that amoral lawyer said, the people in the audience, regardless of their age, DO want to see and hear the real deal, not a bunch of phonies.

  • I've seen Charlie Thomas & the Drifters perform live twice, and I have their CD. They always put on a great show. These crumbs can't hold a candle to Charlie, Ben E. King or any of the authentic Drifters, and they should be doubly ashamed for sullying the good name of Elsbeary Hobbs.

  • Charlie should have knocked him out...LOL

  • Knocking them out? How about getting up on stage and singing and telling people how dumb they are for supporting phonies?
