Most Anthems are pre-recorded,even the half time shows have come under scrutiny after the Janet incident. Personally we ALL know that's Jewel's real voice so her lip syncing like most artists doesn't really bother me. I will say it was the technicians fault starting the track to early. There is usually a count down or marker that the artists hears/sees that lets them know when the track begins. Again their is big difference between lip syncing with YOUR voice then syncing with someone else's.

I actually don't consider "fame greater than dignity". You have to understand the situation Jewel was in. It was an early stage in her career where, in order for her to put herself out to the world & make a living for herself, she can't go around turning down massive gigs like performing at the superbowl. Please don't criticise Jewel for miming. I've worked with groups who have to "sing" national anthems at a stadium such as this, and many times, they:

A. Ask them to lipsync to ensure that they don't "change" the lyrics

B. Ask them to lipsync to ensure they don't screw up the lyrics or get nervous

C. Ask them to lipsync to ensure good vocal quality in a very acoustically poor stadium

I doubt Jewel WANTED to lipsync. She was probably told to by event organizers.
