This song always reminds me how mournful and soulful the sax is - it evokes that feeling of melancholy you get when you realise that the mugs have voted in another Labour "government" to destroy the economy and keep the seriously bone idle in the lap of luxury. I think the sax breaks on this song represent the instrument at its very finest although the work on Baker Street and Passion Killer (One the Juggler) come pretty close.
great song but in fairness she is not the best vocalist tto do the song justice give it ti adele or k d lang or even bjork to do her own spin on it so im sorry hazel the song is bigger than u
saw hazel in manchester last week. brilliant. claire on the sax doing the solo to this song was absolutely awesome. thanks for a great performance ladies and the chance to remember my youth
this tune was the theme tune for the bbc drama set in the early 80s, at mumbles, swansea.about the life around the mumbles lifeboat.it was called.....................ENNALS POINT.
He stroked my face with the back of his hand, smiled, such a soft smile, I moved closer. Clearing his throat he spoke in tones so soft so low yet a tone that told me, told me exactly what he needed to say.......he told me his secret just before dawn and then, then was gone. So I sip my coffee not knowing quite what to do.....goodnight.(politely)
I know she is not the best looking. I seen her last year and still looks exactly, and sounds the same. I only live a few miles from her. she has a wonderful personality.
I think she still lives in Coventry. Beautiful woman
Incredibly beautiful - the photography here as well as the song. Memories of seeing the film, possibly the most romantic scenes ever. What girl wouldn't have wanted that scene with Phil Daniels in those days? Pity he ended up on Eastenders. He was seriously hot!
This is the ultimate romantic song of all times. And the sax solo is out of this world. After so many years it still sound as wonderful as the first time I heard it.
The best sax solo of all time...because it means more to more people than Baker Street....a wonderful song from a wonderful era...thank you Hazel and Wesley...and the band.....
I am trying to learn the sax solo from this song...I love it so much! I need to try and find the sheet music for it....any ideas where I can find it??
i love you hazel im 63 years old that song goes though me your voice is so lovely and sincere i want to marry you then you can sing that song to me ..... love patrick ...
I come back and listen to this now and again, what a song! Absolutely fantastic lyrics, just sit and listen. Take off your eyes, bare your sole, what more needs to be said!!!
I saw Hazel in Manchester a few years ago, She gets no royalties from this song, and refuses to sing it, if you see her live, Then she does. She had an irish repetoire and it was excellent, but the crowd, jollied, and I must admit - requested this tune., I joined in the 'hurrah', Reminds me of my teen years and discovering my sexuality and the buzz of not knowin what was to happen next..

I was around when this was released, and saw the film countless times. I now have it on dvd, and to this day have never heard a piece of instrumental music that fits so well as the sax solo does.
I'm sure the BBC used the sax part as the theme for "Ennals Point", a short-lived serial about a fictitious Welsh RNLI Lifeboat Station (actually The Mumbles). The Lifeboat was named "RNLB Sir Samuel Grail". Obviously someone at the BBC had great taste! Now, where did I put that anorak??
@clivegb1 Yes you are correct Clive. I still have the very same theme tune from Ennal's Point on 7" vinyl. I'll have to get around to looking for it some day. A wonderful piece from muchly missed Wesley's work.
This is sucha greast song. Often missed because of the great saziophone solo/lead is the base line in this which is also terrific. Definitely one of the best songs ever.
How can anyone not like this? As near to perfect as you can get. Memories of lost opportunities come flooding back from all those years ago. And that haunting sax - wow!
I remember hearing this for the first time, it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.... Truly amazing and a real advert for the music of my youth (the eighties)
@wodensburg I agree totally re the actual song, this is one of the most amazing songs of all time by a uniquely talented lady, but the pretty pictures do not remotely relate to the song. You need the live performances to truly appreciate her talent, not forgetting the awe sax solo :)
The sax solo was by Wesley Mcgoogan that sadly had an accident with a circular saw that severed several of his fingers and since then he was unable to play.
Still my number 1 song of all time! If the hair on the back of your neck isn’t standing with the sax, your application of what real talent is never existed!

the sax, the strings, the outstanding vocals - what more could you ask for!
it is imo the best pop ballad ever written & released - takes me back to 1981 & vivid memories of being a teenager & also not realising how damn good a record it really was/is! pure magic & fantastic memories that never fade as the years go by - this is one amazing recording
I remember the angst! Would the guy you danced with know it well enough to hang on for the gap.....we were all so scared at the time that the earth would be ended by nudlear bombs!! Hindsight, the best times...and still some of my favourite songs even though I am now 41!
Theres not a woman on the planet that could sing this better than Hazel O Connor her vocals are just stunning so much emotion such a sad song and the saxophone is awesome a truly stunning and timeless track 10/10 what else can I say
@garynumanfanforever I agree. What woman in the world wouldn't want to have this song sent to her. Emotional, sad, awesome, stunning, and more. One would certainly want him/her to STAY!

I had forgotten all about this track until someone mentioned Hazel O'Connor yesterday. How could I have forgotten this? Awesome track. Brings back so many memories. And that sax......
The scale on 4.30 is sick" its a solo thats classed as a rapture of music that stands out alongside baker street.
