Colleges are not expensive because of government subsidies, this guy is just your typical republican moron. Countries where the government subsidizes education much more, such as Canada and Australia, have much lower tuition costs.

Healthcare costs have exploded ever since the gov't got into the mix, especially w/HMO's. The Mass. plan has been a complete disaster too. Look up Singapore healthcare, it's not a completely free market (it's what I'd prefer, albeit Peter would disagree), but at least it will give you an idea of what a real free market system looks like.

Healthcare costs have exploded ever since the gov't got into the mix, especially w/HMO's. The Mass. plan has been a complete disaster too. Look up Singapore healthcare, it's not a completely free market (it's what I'd prefer, albeit Peter would disagree), but at least it will give you an idea of what a real free market system looks like.

Lawrence O'Hannity. That was embarrassing. I like how he basically summed up that Peter was against Rep. and Dems. , using nice sweeping generalizations. "You don't agree with one sentence." The part about elite private school tuition was great too. Lawrence calls himself a Eruopean Socialist. How about National Socialist? aka. Nazi. Let the guy at least state his position. Sometimes the "other side" has no legitimate argument. Should we allow those who believe the earth is flat equal time? I think not. Schiff was simply repeating the same crap we've been hearing for nearly 40 years. The crap which has been discredited & has put us where we are. There is no fear of his message, because there is no message; just more of the same supply-side bs, that makes the top 1% obscenely rich, while making the rest of us little more than indentured servants.

If you only bring up the last 10 years, you've not been paying attention or you are too young to know. Might I suggest you read up on Milton Friedman before you continue. My arguments appear vague because you are not in the know, plain & simple. I don't feel superior because of this. I will read your recommendation to understand your perspective, but that is not the point of my argument. What upsets me is people not communicating properly. How are people supposed to learn from each other if they shut out opinions. The bottom line is there is no right answer as long as humanity is corrupt. Yes there is corporate corruption and a legislature can put in safe guards to protect the consumer, but I trust the government even less and would rather allow competition/litigation.

The government is not necessarily some amorphous, malevolent entity out to suck us dry. We are the government, or at least could be if more of us were interested in what our representatives are doing than, say, who will get nominated this week on American Idol. That's the price of complacency & the demonization of the the intellectual. Humanity will always be corrupt. It's part of our nature, but so are magnanimity & compassion. The founding fathers chose the latter in spite of personal faults.
