This is from two pieces of 4X5 positive sheet film shot in 1985. I was working in Moab at that time and living in the Seattle area. From my first visit to Bryce Canyon.
Well I can see how you would think that. But it is just a different scale. The wide angle lens is a 90mm and its highest f stop is 64. So with that lens I can have a DOF of just a 1-2 feet to infinity, maybe better. Large format cameras can give amazing results. But I'm never going to use mine again. I have a digital camera that out performs all my 4X5 cameras.
So you're not one of those photographers that believes only in film for doing serious work? Looking at things from an economical perspective, film is very inefficient and time consuming.
I also have a 4X5 color dark room that I'll never use again. A few years ago digital surpassed film. Meaning that the digital pixel is smaller than the grain in the finest grain film. The last time I used my 4X5 camera it cost $5 every time it went click. $2.5 for the film and $2.5 for processing, I'm sure it is much more now. I think the best thing about digital photography is no film labs to screw up you film and then you have nothing.
beautifull view! im just so into sunrises. ive taken many pictures of them in my one place - in Latvia, Riga, on a Baltic sea shore...and actually, thinking to get on my bike and get there right now) it`s 3:30 in the morning right now)
Its like standing there again. I got a very early start that morning thinking that I would find and stop at an overlook for some sunrise pictures. This time it worked out.
Very nice photography and beautiful landscape.

@AllAmericanFiveRadio I'll bet your DOF is VERY shallow with film that large!

Hope you get some great shots! I'm usually up and about before sunrise, I think it is a great part of the day.

I got a very early start one morning and as I was driving I saw the sunrise starting and decided to stop and take some pictures. Glad I did now.
