i am secretly in love with the windows classic design. i made it so that xp looks like it, and if my next laptop is a vista machine i will definitely do it to that too.
I use a PC with Linux installed. My personal favorite Distro is Debian. I like it because it is free, as in freedom. Being free as in cost doesn't hurt either. I like having full control over my system and knowing what's going on. I like the high level of customization available. Perhaps most importantly though, I like it for it's security.I would like more games, but that's not the fault of Linux. Come on game devs, give us some games! Anyway, my two cents. See ya.
I have an iMac and a black Mabook because they work seamlessly.
Like you, I feel secure with the Internet, however, there are security updates and I check daily.
As for maintenance, it is a breeze on a Mac versus a Windows PC.
I am able to create videos and any multimedia presentation much easier on a Mac than I ever had on a PC (and I made a DVD movie on both systems, the Mac wins this category hands down).
Also, my iPod Touch was made with the similar features of the Mac.
The only reason why I like PC over Macintosh is because I grew up with PC. Not that my view is one sided though, for I have tried Macintosh. The Mac that I had used was supposedly very good back then (says my friend) but we kept running into problems and didn't get to do very much on them. Granted they do get less Viruses, because Macs were made after the internet started taking its hold. PC wasn't designed with the idea of connecting two computers. Linux/Unix, however, get NO viruses!
troll-One who purposely and deliberately (that purpose usually being self-amusement) starts an argument in a manner which attacks others on a forum without in any way listening to the arguments proposed by his or her peers. He will spark of such an argument via the use of ad hominem attacks (i.e. 'you're nothing but a fanboy' is a popular phrase) with no substance or relevence to back them up as well, which he uses to simply avoid addressing the essence of the issue.
I'm a Mac user myself. They aren't virus free. There's security updates, but other OSes do it. Vista's actually a little TOO secure, though it has security updates. One thing that you can appreciate is that Macs tend to get a smaller amount of viruses because only about 10% of the market is composed of Macs. That number may have increased, and the market for Macs is growing faster than that of PC's. You got any other reasons that viruses on mac are reduced to an exterme? Respond if ya can =P
Well i use PC, Linux and Windows, i dont see diference between Mac or Linux, they are indirectly sons of UNIX, people like to fight about OS, just because the image of each one.
This is stupid, Operating Systems are made to let people can work with computers on different ways...so i dont see why we have to be so extreme with people that dont use an specific OS, please stop Flamewars of this...
Good response, on the contrary I asked this question very specifically to see if people could reflect on what they use positively and not start any sort of war.
I believe its mainly Windows vs OSX because people often discuss the security of each OS. I believe there are two different sets of arguments for software and hardware.
The wide variety of software, open-source or otherwise that are available on the internet for free is a good plus. I have a machine running Vista that I use for composing (Music Creator 2004), drawing (OpenCanvas 1.1), gaming (Serious Sam, Half Life 2, TF2, plus other freeware games), writing (Notepad ++ & OpenOffice), listening to music & recording (XMPlay) chatting (mIRC & Pidgin) and it works great for me. Avast! installed on this PC had yet to fail me on the malware front too.
I like PCs in general because of their modular design architecture. If I need to upgrade, all I need to do is pop open the box, replace the parts, install the drivers and it's already done. It also allows me to customise different hardware setups for different needs.
The other reason I like the PC is because you are given a very wide choice of OSes to use. For example, If I dislike how Vista uses a lot of resources, I can just strip away the resources or install a less-demanding OS, maybe linux
In anycase I have been thinking about buying one just because I want my kids to learn about all three systems, just in case one of my kids want to persue a career in web designing or producing movies.
I hope you do not mind me asking. It seem that all I hear about mac is that videos hear or digital animation here, but I do not hear anything about serious stuff or work. I mean I understand this that mac is perfectly known for good digital medial, but what if I want to type a 50 page document or financial spreadsheet. It almost sound as if mac is just for designers or artists, and not for people that are just interested on programming or doing serious work.
Well i lately made the transition to ubuntu, because XP will not be supported soon, not to mention being sold at the retail store. I do not want to make a transition to Vista because I have some 1 or two year devices which might not work becuase of driver issues with vista. Ubuntu is decently ready for the world, if you are talking about chatting online, web surfing, writing documents, making presentations, ect. If you want to play games then you should stay with Windows. Never used an apple pc
I think you are right on with the mac, the way the software works with each other is just amazing, I don't know why I haven't switched to the mac earlier. I used to use Windows for Gaming and Ubuntu for my everyday use, Now I use the Mac as my everyday computer, and Windows for Gaming, I just like a "pc" for it's ability to expand, like if I want to Upgrade my gfx card to get better frames on a game, or overclock my system, and I like the mac because of it's software, I have a MBP and I love it.
I think whatever group of people have th eright to give themselves whatever username they want. It's your Youtube identity. I don't mind seeing user names supporting Macs or anything of that matter. I would be more creeped out if I saw usernames like ieatpuppies or something like that. I believe its a person's right of self expression
well i believe a fan is considered someone who is in support of a person or object, It's almost a synonym of supporter. I support Mac. I don't its stupid, what I believe is stupid is the name calling and the fighting between two groups in choosing in which os is superior although are different and have the good points and bad points.
I love my PC, running Windows XP, because I built it myself and can continue to upgrade and customize it with ease (though some might call it a chore). I love being able to play most of the latest games, and picking what software I've got. It's hard to beat that feeling of building it yourself and having so many choices for what you can do.
I am a PC user, and I dislike it. It is an HP laptop with the following specs: 2.0 Ghz AMD Turion ATI Mobility Radeon X200 128 Mb 1 GB RAM 160 GB HD Windows XP Pro Bought in 2006. Roughly 40% of the HD is being used ....and it is INCREDIBLY slow. I have timed the startup to be 3:48 with all startup apps disabled. IE lags/shuts down randomly. Running Norton/Adaware/Spybot/Disk Cleanup/Defrag still does not keep 100% of the viruses out. I wish I had a Mac. I hear so many good things about them.
My cousin has a Dell Laptop similar to yours except his was worse and slower. If you download Ultumix 0.0.1.5 when it comes out this week it will run super fast on your laptop and it's free. The only disadvantage is that you will probably need to remove your built in WiFi and plug in an external Linux compatible WiFi card. Depending on your Laptop you may be able to use a $40.00 Dell WiFi card that's GNU/Linux compatible.
Hi, I use a mac. I really love it. I love it because of all the cool shortcuts, "spaces" (which i use like every minute of the day), and ichat. Leopard has amazing features and really great security. Dashboard is something I use all the time too. Sorry this comment isn't all techy, but I did the best I could. Thanks
I've been using Macs for 9 1/2 years now. I love them. I can't imagine not using OS X or a future Mac OS. They've really helped me be creative and enjoy a fairly stressfree computer existence. That said, they are fairly elitist (expensive) and sometimes are unflexible. But I guess that is part of their successful stability and strong overall performance.
I personally agree with you about the hating and stuff, so here goes...I have tried both Mac and PC, but I think that they both have unique qualities. Macs have more accessibility to programs, dont get the Blue Screen, and have some pretty cool video editing software for free. PC's are also unique. they are at the moment more popular, so can burn more money on the gaming softeware and entertainment, but do always get the Blue Screen and erase homework.
i use a toshiba laptop , 2.0 ghz 160gb , 2 gb ram vista home premium . i have had loads of problems with vista so im saving to get a mac , but i will still use this aswell because of some applications and also i piad alot of money for vista ( well my mum and dad )
I use Ultumix GNU/Linux Version 0.0.1.4 which I made myself with help from the mint community. I've been striving to make it more like Windows so that Windows users would feel comfortable using it. w w w dot ultumix dot com screen shots will show you the latest version.
I use Ubuntu, as well as other distros, because it gives me full control over my system, and allows me to be fully aware of everything going on with in it. Also since most linux distros are free, I can install it where ever I go, or whatever my current situation is. A few months ago some of my computers were stolen with my copies of windows, but I could easily install linux for free. I do however still use windows to run certain applications, which are limited to the windows OS.
i use mac because they use better applications
sleeker design
has movie making and music making software and it comes free with it.
has not got a virus yet
