I have to say, I found the layout stage hilarious. Watching George float around reminded me of Blues Brothers when the nun floats backwards from the door before it slams closed.
@marneebox . If you download the trial demo of 3D Studio Max from Autodesk, and watch some of the tutorials it should answer all your questions. However like Unchartedisthebest says, Pixar use their own purpose built system, but the principles remain the same.
1. what computer animation programs would have a digital camera equipped with them? 2. how would you record the particular shots you want and how is it then later translated into film?
@marneebox Its not a physical digital camera that comes with the program. LIKE I SAID EVERYTHING IS IN THE COMPUTER PROGRAM. And pixar creates their own programs so I don't have much insight on what particular programs they use. That second question you can look up yourself, because that takes to long to explain.
@marneebox Layout is when they figure out what camera shots and angles to use in the film that best tells the story. Like for instance they want a close up shot of a characters face or they wanted the camera to be behind that red guy when he ran to go pushed the button.
@Unchartedisthebest yeah, but how do they do that type of movement without an actual camera? is the camera like digital or something, like, is it part of a program they use?
@marneebox Yep its digital. Its right in the program on the computer. It works just like any other camera except its in the computer. You move it with a mouse and position it right where you want it, you can zoom in or out and all that other stuff, you know all the common things cameras can do.
