In the early 80's when we could afford a VCR, I rented this and watched it. remember this well. Over the years I've seen Billy 7-8 times but the last time was with my oldest daughter and was the best. He did songs I never heard in the 80's, 90's, but all in all every time I saw him he was "The Entertainer"....
@astarothsharp It's one of his best. Yeah, that entire time period, "The Stranger," (1977) "52nd Street," (1978) and "Glass Houses" (1980) were just AMAZING.
@spanishprisoner Actually I think its reffering to life experience lets face it people who tend to bend or break the rules have many many more stories and life experience then people who are always trying to live up to highstandards....so only the good die young=die without having alot of experience
at 15, people think I'm weird for liking this kind of music. well today's music requires nothing but a computer, no skill whatsoever. I'm proud that I love classics like this one.
@killercrapa not all music today takes just a computer just the music that SUCKS! Honestly I love music like metal and rock, but I will always LOVE Billy Joel. You can't really blame the dislikes on a music type either it's not the musics fault. The music didn't dislike it. Some people just aren't into it. Which is another reason I don't understand the dislike button on Youtube its a waste of space and I don't care how many people don't like the music I do they don't have to listen to it. Thanks
This is a great song and anyone who doesn't want to get up and dance to this has no life. great song, and like the other video's you put too. i really like your sense of music, it's a hard thing to come by these days.
i think this is one of the best songs ever posted on youtube and i have argument to prove it. Most of the songs posted on this website have both likes and dislikes even the best songs ever made that you would think "who would ever dislike that song" even those have dislikes. But this song is considered by many people extremely offensive so assuming that those people( at least 36) disliked this song because they found it improper .that means that nobody really disliked the song
@swooptcn, he's not dissing god in any way, he's just simply saying how she's trapped in a church and how she's not experiencing how good life really can be without god. So no offense to you if you take it that way back he's not disrespecting god in any way.
@1lucasc i wrote that to see how many comments i would get. you were the only one you freaking retard!! JUSTIN BIEBER SUCKS BUT NOT AS MUCH AS YOU FREAK!!
I think Glee helps younger people recognise great classics, but it also destroys the artistic value. Doesn't matter though, as long as these songs are appreciated.
@calmer410 I'm saying this as a fan of both Billy Joel and glee (we do exist it's shocking I know), I knew about Billy Joel long before glee and that was back when I was seven years old that I first heard one of his songs (nine years ago) and I've loved his music ever since. So I was ahead of the class when it came to "gleeks" listening to Billy Joel :)
@krappycone what are you talking about? the production value for glee is great. just because they aren't billy joel, or whoever theyre covering, doesnt mean it isn't decent. im not saying that the glee version is definitive... but its good as far as covers go.
@calmer410 i don't see how glee destroys the artistic value at all, you want preservation of the classics, then pull em up, thats what this video is for if you want the original sound, glee is just trying to revive the interest in this kind of music with a more modern take on style, but i guess its all a matter of your point of view
@calmer410 even though music can live forever it will certainly hold a greater appreciation for those who got to experience it more personally when it came out, and even though you can wish everybody could appreciate it all as much as it should be, sometimes you just gotta be happy that you were able to.
it' s really sad how nobody in my age (high school) except for me and 2 of my friends actually know who Billy Joel is . . . what has the world come to! oh right rap "music"
Liberty DeVitto..the drummer...actually changed the original tempo of this song from a slow reggae type song to a much faster rock version with all the drum fills added in...and the song turned out to be a smash hit for Billy.

to the current music class of 2000s and beyond...This is music! When was the last time you went to an actual concert where it wasn't about the costume changes, stage designs and auto tune?
i find it weird when people comment on this song about their friends dying. like did your friend die cause they didnt have sex with billy joel lol...cause thats what this song is actually about if you actually listen to it...
That 'trademark' look I believed is used to remind us us about the roots of his music, much in the way E Presley did.
This is awesome footage considering the state of 'the cutting edge' electronics....HD, digital~just dreams on an engineers desk.
How did u clean it up while maintaining image quality? Even BetaMax was iffy in that lighting situation and 3 chip recorders, if available were $100k .... Excellent on all fronts!
this song changed my life, changed completely how I thought about things. my favorite line-"I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints, and sinners are much more fun."
sinners are much more fun.

to the current music class of 2000s and beyond...This is music! When was the last time you went to an actual concert where it wasn't about the costume changes, stage designs and auto tune?

This is awesome footage considering the state of 'the cutting edge' electronics....HD, digital~just dreams on an engineers desk.
How did u clean it up while maintaining image quality? Even BetaMax was iffy in that lighting situation and 3 chip recorders, if available were $100k .... Excellent on all fronts!

this song changed my life, changed completely how I thought about things. my favorite line-"I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints, and sinners are much more fun."
