I started out on an XR250, upgraded to a CRF450R and always regretted it.

The XR is so much nicer to ride and the engine was completely bulletproof!

Although the CRF is lighter, faster and handles better, it's just not the same.

Folks, I just bought an XR250 -89, approx 2 hours later the bike just cut out suddenly, instantly, no compression and wont start of course, something broke down on me? Seller sounded trustful afterwards that it cant be anything serious, more like the handle/decompressor that turns off/decompress the engine is doing something. What could have cause this sudden death? Thx for help!!!

anyone got any experience with bar risers on an xr..? mine's a 2002 xr250r and it's a sick bike but the bars are too low for me (6'3"). and for "rnbaer" - don't know what this guy is running but i have a barrett pipe on mine. sounds very similar and gives it a definite lift in grunt.

I don't have bar raisers on a XR but i have them on my TTR 250. they make it so much better. also get taper handlebars as this will lift height more and make it alot more comfortable to ride. I use to not ride standing up as it was just to low but now standing up with there things done is great. good luck mate

No, but the forest circus might have something to say if you ride it in the woods. Sometimes if you gut an exhaust, the bike wont run very well because its lacking the correct backpressure to allow the engine to scavenge the off the exhaust gasses.

That depends on what "good" is. They are pretty weak, way underpowered in todays standards. About 19Hp, and a CRF150R puts out 20Hp, so that tells you the difference in old and new designs. But, they are reliable as hell, and almost indestructable!
