Damn... This is way beyond priceless. This is just... this is you, the very you! The fact that you'd share this with us, just proves once again that you are simply the greatest.
Wait a minute...! How the heck did I miss that subscribe button?? Must have thought it was on all along...
Wow, excellent stuff, Adam. With all the great licks and ideas you pack into this vid, I must have watched it like 10 times already! I love that 3-4 thing you do around 2:30.
Hot hot double hot mr. Gussow, many thanks for the continued source of inspiration... even your outakes are gold... sometimes thats when the most pure stuff comes thru...
Well, at least you have a method to the madness! Madness I say! You sound better messin' up than I do at my best. Hmmm, what kind of car is that??? :-)
I hope nobody misunderstood my comment. I was refering to the sound mix, not the jam track or Adam's playing. I personally love Jazz and Swing, especially West Coast Jump Swing. (Still wondering if there's any overblows going on there..)
What I like about these jam tracks is that you have to make up your own riffs and improvise a lot. I took a completely different approach to this song and used the Louis Armstrong / Count Basie minimalist approach to playing only a couple of notes spaced out between guitar strums and it seemed to work.
"same riff": getting controlled by habitual patterns, breathwise, that's what I face each time I play as well. Then I keep thinking like I ain't improvising/ progressing but being caught up in my own habits. But YOU are GREAT! Still being such a hard working, self-reflective person after all these years is a gift which took you right here where you are and will even take you much further! Think POSITIVE! You are a great teacher THX for that!
But as a harp-playing pro, it's important to have some range. Robert Johnson did; Little Walter did. Jazz is the neighborhood right next door, and it's a nice place to visit. Robert Jr. Lockwood plays more jazz than blues, although he sings blues. I consider myself a disciple of Hank Crawford, a horn man for Ray Charles who situated himself right on the dividing line between jazz and blues.
i think jazz is something ill hopefully get into further down the line but for now its the Blues i feel best . i like all the wacky jazz with screaming hornes like john Coltrane & Ornnette Coleman . some jazz guitar just KO's my head
"the camera was off, i swear." but you lean right over at the end to....start the lesson? turn off the camera? look for the steering wheel?
this is just like me! i know the boss man is watching and i start digging like a crazy guy! but these are free so i dont think there will be any complaints. and you can always blame charlie. (he aint there!)
and as far as you know, no one thinks you are nuts for talking to yourself.
Chromatic harp! Any chance of some lessons on that Adam?
PS I've left the camera running when I thought it was off, and the other way round too. Not so good when you're doing it professionally I can tell you!
I have watched since youtube vid # 4 and i have a question that i haven't seen anyone ask...and i apologize for it. Unfortunately it may be the musical equivalent to the golf question "do you inhale or exhale when putting?" I say unfortunately because it will affect the questioner's putting adversely. (really the point)....well here goes..your fingers..you use them trumpet-like. Does it help you keep rhythm, or is it
It's a great question, and, surprisingly, you're the first to ask it. Truth is, the motion with my fingers is absolutely unconscious and not something that I'm able to control. I was astonished when I first saw myself on video doing that. I had no idea. I'm not conscious of doing it while I play. It would be a mistake, obviously, for any harp player to deliberately imitate the finger-flap--but I'm not worried about people doing that.
I can't tell if you were really actually frustrated and doing the woodshed thing or were you just being downright sarcastic because either way you still sound like a pro and a dangerous one. For some odd reason this video has got me grinning from ear to ear. BTW I talk to myself too. Ain't nothin crazy bout that... I think.
shreddddiiinnnn......what's the harp equivalent of saying shredding for guitar? i would still call it shredding...does anyone know?
NotSoUniversal 3 years ago
I'd call is shredding. Or blowing, as in, "he's really blowing." On second thought: shredding.

Maybe it's the equipment I'm listening with, but the jam track is a bit too loud and is overpowering your harp. (And your comments.)
Just a suggestion.
