@buugiman78 I used to hang out with a guy who was a psychopath.. I didn't know what a psychopath was back then. He was extremely manipulative. When he was finished with one group of people, he'd assume a different hobby/identity a move to the next. I stopped hanging out with him because he was manipulative. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out.
The psychopaths who are causing the most damage in the world are the CEO's in the U.S. and there's already a movement for that.
Apparently prison isn't the only place one is likely to run into psychopaths. Some psycho's don't become killers - they become successful in business because they don't care about the consequences of their decisions. Fire 5000 employees with families - no problem. So they can be very successful CEO's.
The conspirator they're interviewing isn't a psychopath. He's a sociopath, where he has the elements of criminality and lack of regard for self and others..but the cause of this behavior is mainly learned, and being entrenched in an environment that supports anti-social behavior. Another example would be a gang-member. Psychopaths are more charming, cunning, usually of high intelligence and a complete absence of remorse and guilt for any type of vile behavior they commit.
@LucidDreamz Your are talking nonsense. There is no clinical distinction between a sociopath and a psychopath.. Neither of them are coherent terms used in ICD or DSM. The words merely reflect the perspective of the person who uses the word. When you talk about sociopaths you tend to focus on the social environement and when you talk about psychopaths you tend to more focus on the biological perspective. But, since they aren't professional terms they are pretty much interchangeable.
@buugiman78 Thank you. I've heard a psychologist say something to the extent that trying to find a difference between the terms is like splitting hairs. In my opinion, the distinction is pretty useless.
I did a lot of reading on serial killers initially, then I found a big interest in psychopaths in general because it teaches us a lot about ourselves. How important empathy is and it's like the single thing that rules society. Without it, things get can get pretty crazy haha.
@sk8tafrnk Yes, and it's quite scary the more you learn about these individuals. But, it's very important to be able to recognize a psychopath if you come across one. Otherwise you're in for a lot of trouble. An interesting phenomenon is how injuries and certain diseases can pretty much make psychopaths of anyone. This shows how vulnerable we all are and how important it is for the well-being of our societies that we understand how the brain works.
@buugiman78 Worrying about an encounter with a psychopaths is pretty ridiculous I'd say. 1% of people are psychopaths and less than 1% of them are the serial killer varitety.
@buugiman78 Granted I shouldn't have been so definitive, but there IS controversy among psychologists, psychiatrist, social scientists, geneticists and the like about whether or not there should be an distinction among the terms sociopath and psychopath, which you yourself outlined the basic difference. You're only point of contention was that there isn't an official distinction within those manuals (which are ever-changing anyways).
@buugiman78 He doesn't strike me as your standard psychopath-- the deep-seeded effect of his abusive childhood, living on the 'fringe' of life, not completely devoid of a conscience, not particularly charming, etc.
I'm teaching a juvenile justice college class this spring and this video is literally perfect for the "causes of crime" lesson I have planned. Such an intesting program, if I wasn't a poor college professor I'd sponsor you! Great job!!
@TheTonywade The actors in this documentary are easily the worst I've ever seen. I majored in theater and the lack of talent is disgusting. Literally.
@dumdum5 I know these aren't actors. To consider them so would be an insult to people who have spent the years required to master their talents in theater.
Don't question my ability to recognize talent. I'm not saying these people won't one day fine tune their skills. I'm just pointing out that obviously something of this nature has not taken place and it's going to take years of commitment and a change of lifestyle for any one of these people to become successful in their trade.
Terrific show. It would make a fascinating series. With more interest than ever in forensic psychology, I hope CBC takes a second look at this. You were way ahead of your time.
I would like to see what the opposite of a psychopath is, someone who has no concept of status or power but only has the ability for empathy, emotions and nurturing other people
@ryandrums1001 If you read "Evil Genes" by Barbara Oakley, she makes the proposition that those that suffer from Williams Syndrome should be considered "anti-psychopaths" despite their learning and physical disabilities. They tend to express an incredible amount of trust and empathy towards people. (p. 99).
this guy is BS . he has learned ro speak well and uses it to manipulate. a true sociopath. he is well spoken enough to portray remorse but i do not believe he is..he is a grand manipulator and i think a liar too. what he says and his facial expressions tell me he is full of shit.
I have 2 smurf books does that mean I am a smurf fan? I have a book on atheism does that mean I am an atheist? Do you see how small your mind really works? Something to think about. Also... if your going to take serious what people write on Youtube you really have some issues.
@Mycterizian Likewise, one does not need to be a man to be attracted to one. No one was asserting such a fallacy as you have mentioned above. I apologize for my brash response, but I wholly despise psychopaths.
This guy isn't a psychopath. A psychopath wouldn't care at all about his own brother, or waste his breath characterizing his abusive stepmother's emotions. A psychopath would kill them all just for the giddy thrill of it.
Most of the people I have worked for have been classic psychopaths. You could almost see them spontaneously ejaculating themselves controlling their "Staff" while demonstrating their amazing ability for not giving a shit about anyone else but themselves.
@JMorde999 LOL... okay... don't take everything you read on the internet so serious buddy. Hate to break it to you buddy is not a psychopath however you may be, go get some help.
@JMorde999 Sorry wrong again. I am a historian, and I hardly idolize the man nor do I idolize Stalin. However these 2 men changed the world in many ways and I am among millions that find them interesting along with the brainwashed people that went for the ride with them. I guess if you see a sign you just read the word on it don't you.
@JMorde999 I was being a smart ass but I see your I.Q. can't see that. The guy in this doc is far from a psychopath and I detest a victim society. Yet again I would think you would someone who is psychopath to get help instead of want to shoot him, or call him names. Let me make this clear... I am not a psychopath and more over the guy in this video is not one either. I guess your easy to anger by reading lame comments on the internet? Try some anger management.
@Mycterizian You are quite simply inept in being humorous if you can not discern how sensitive a subject psychopathy is for many people. And psychopaths can not be treated through psychiatry nor medicine. They deserve none other than scorn and resentment.
@JMorde999 and this is coming from the person who wanted shoot me and labelled me a nazi because I have historical documentaries on my Youtube page? Are you listening to yourself. Psychopaths btw are created by the defunct world they live in, in other words they are conditioned. I'll also inform you that you work around many of them everyday but they just don't kill people. Humanity is psychotic they way we have been behaving for the past 2000 years.
@Mycterizian That is not true. All psychopaths were created in the womb and constitute 1-4% of the population. Sociopaths, rather, are mostly the result of social conditioning.
@JMorde999 Sure genetics plays a role in psychopathy yet those genes are triggered and shaped by dysfunctional surroundings and re-enforced behaviors. Sociopaths are not that far off from psychopaths and I agree the workplace especially positions of authority and power are where these people are found in order to bully, put down, and fulfill their sadist appetites. Again... humanity is a train wreck and as a result your seeing the result of the dysfunction on a mass scale.
@Mycterizian I agree that humanity is dysfunctional, but it is primarily because dysfunctional people are distorting all of the values persisting in the media. If this phenomenon is not apprehended, human beings will become a mere memory by the next century. Psychopaths suffer a very unbalanced, polar perception of the world which is out of touch with reality. There is no cure but death, unfortunately.
@Mycterizian Additionally, I do genuinely apologize for my initial outburst. You appear to have an intellectual mind, but I feel that if you experienced the wrath of a psychopath you would understand why so many of us despise them utterly.
@JMorde999 I might add as well that Hitler though along the same lines as you. He didn't want people like that or people that he deemed inferior or less deserving than he in his society so he systematically executed them by the masses. Maybe it is a good idea that people really catch up on their history so they can see this when people like you do not like something or someone you just want to shoot it.
@Mycterizian You are the second person to draw this erroneous claim. This is why justice will never be served in this world, no one has the guts to stand up for themselves. Psychopaths are a very dangerous group of individuals, anyone who's dealt with them can attest to this. Human society is being destroyed by these individuals because they have a monopoly on both politics and the economy. It's not a matter of being "different" it's a matter of being a threat to our survival.
@JMorde999 I quite agree yet how can you stand up for yourself when a government or power authority is sociopathic or pyschopathic? Guys like Hitler and Stalin make quick work of people that stand up for the common good or what is right. These people with the same characteristics are in politics now, in our police forces, in business, etc. The don't care what you and I deem as right, moral, and just. I agree with you they need to be dealt with.
@JMorde999 Also these people cement themselves with a solid power base before they act. Hitler didn't get nuts until he was absolute, and neither did Stalin. No world leader has made big moves until he was firmly cemented with a power base. Always remember the basic necessity of man is a will to power. We all do it everyday the thing that separates us from the psychos is we don't kill, hurt, or fuck over to get there. You lie you cheat and steal you get ahead it seems these days.
@karategirl994 No your father is most likely a pissed off alcoholic. A psychopath is a sadist cold calculating murderer. I highly doubt your father has killed anyone or has an accomplishment like Jack the Ripper.
This guy is not a psychopath... are you serious? He is just an idiot that committed a crime. Believe me I know what at a psychopath is and giving this guy a title such as this is almost laughable. A great example of a horde of psychopaths is about 50% of the police force in Canada.
We don't really know if Doug will change his behaviuor if he will get out of prison. If you look at him being interviewed, he is still full of rage and anger, I don't see any empathy or sympathy while talking...maybe what he was telling was the truth about his upbringing or not but the way I look at him what he was telling in the interview was all scripted. His lips while talking and eyes is still full of anger.
@RoberTastic Many thanks for your comments. The other interviews were intended for use in subsequent shows, but because the series was not picked up, we had no more shows to do. That program WAS run once on CBC, but the then boss didn't like it enough. I think he was wrong...We did this before anyone did similar shows, and we would have had the jump on them.
@TheTonywade this is very made programme, alot of what is tought today is covered here...like you said you did it before anyone else put together such a show..real shame they didnt pick it up. thank you for
@Excecutioner147 Thanks. It actually pisses me off. I think there is still a lot of scope for doing serious (not trash) programs on many criminal behaviours.
If anyone has financing for more, please contact me. Thanks for your comments.
Tony what an amazing show.. shame it did not get a run, as it seems to be the most analytical show on the topic that I've seen. Here in the states all crime shows are heavily sensationalized, while light on content
The overall social construct and the behavioral characters induced are the primary sources of the manifestations of violence that afflict this "culture".
George W. Bush: Liar, thieve, mass murderer, a bane on the body politic en masse being elevated to the pinnacle of the U.S. political regime and in the aftermath of the manifest villainy .....cricket's chirping in an open field. And that's just ONE example I could cite.
@wisdomtrek So well said. Not to mention he was a long-term alchoholic dimwit prior to Presidency, & subsequently rehabilitated into mass murderer & dimwit. These psychos in govt are up there with Prince Phillip, who stated that he wishes he was a virus in order that he may wipe out swathes of humanity
not surprised this didn't get "picked up"... since the earth is run by these monsters in white collars... they do not want us to know they are not human
All humans try to acquire power, in fact any intelligent being does. One's survival aspects drastically improve when one has control over the situation. This eventually evolves from survival to quality of life and ease of existence. The problem is when a person seeks to control other people; some want to control every aspect of everything and these people are the most dangerous, especially when they have the skills and resources to do so.
Psychopaths comprise an example of this. After all, what happens when you remove empathy, kindness, decency, and any regard to do the right thing from a human brain?
What you are left with is little more than the will to win, to dominate, to conquer.
You can tell he is deliberately contorting his eyebrows. That's creepy. Typical psychopath trying to mimic the actions, thoughts, and feelings of a normal person. Not doing a very good job, though.
It always sounds strange to me that people keep focusing on these prisoners not 'looking' emotional when they describe what has happened. Don't they realize the convicts have gone through interviews for weeks and months, you can't be equally emotional in front of a camera over and over. Even the most horrible and strong emotions will at some point sit within you, not on your facial expressions, and especially not in front of a camera.
@Salamphoenix It seems that in Doug's case - and in so many other cases - people WERE out to get him, no? How about the way his dad treated him? That forms a kid's view on the world, you know. It's not in any way an excuse for how he treated those three people himself, but then, that wasn't what you said either.
It appears that the subject is giving scripted answers? Probably because he has made a prison career of being studied and interviewed by dozens of psychologist? He uses words and phrases that just sound out of place like "sibling","fisticuffs" and the phrase " I lived in the showed of fear"..very melodramatic?of course it is their nature to adapted..thanks again

His lips while talking and eyes is still full of anger.

i feel sorry for him. A great guy and a superb role model for my kids

PS what happened to the other interviews?
RoberTastic 4 months ago
@RoberTastic Many thanks for your comments. The other interviews were intended for use in subsequent shows, but because the series was not picked up, we had no more shows to do. That program WAS run once on CBC, but the then boss didn't like it enough. I think he was wrong...We did this before anyone did similar shows, and we would have had the jump on them.
I appreciate your feedback, cheers, Tony.

@TheTonywade this is very made programme, alot of what is tought today is covered here...like you said you did it before anyone else put together such a show..real shame they didnt pick it up. thank you for
Excecutioner147 3 months ago
@Excecutioner147 Thanks. It actually pisses me off. I think there is still a lot of scope for doing serious (not trash) programs on many criminal behaviours.
If anyone has financing for more, please contact me. Thanks for your comments.

Tony what an amazing show.. shame it did not get a run, as it seems to be the most analytical show on the topic that I've seen. Here in the states all crime shows are heavily sensationalized, while light on content

22:17 what about Mass Murderers?
DarthKieduss43 4 months ago

He could be making all of this up.

not surprised this didn't get "picked up"... since the earth is run by these monsters in white collars... they do not want us to know they are not human

@desire4liberation
It's much worse when someone in your own family is a psychopath.
It makes you wonder how can members of the same family be so different psychologically, whereby one is human and another is anything but human!

KJLesnick 7 months ago
Psychopaths comprise an example of this. After all, what happens when you remove empathy, kindness, decency, and any regard to do the right thing from a human brain?
What you are left with is little more than the will to win, to dominate, to conquer.

He IS eligable for parole after serving 25 years
TheTonywade 11 months ago
Life without parole for 25 years? That sounds retarded. Why didn't you say 25 years to life? parole is implied by the "25 years".
KayBeeEee1983 11 months ago
You can tell he is deliberately contorting his eyebrows. That's creepy. Typical psychopath trying to mimic the actions, thoughts, and feelings of a normal person. Not doing a very good job, though.
KayBeeEee1983 11 months ago
@KayBeeEee1983 And the woman narrating doing that typical newscaster head movement that I find irritating, along with some weird eyebrow movements.

It always sounds strange to me that people keep focusing on these prisoners not 'looking' emotional when they describe what has happened. Don't they realize the convicts have gone through interviews for weeks and months, you can't be equally emotional in front of a camera over and over. Even the most horrible and strong emotions will at some point sit within you, not on your facial expressions, and especially not in front of a camera.

it seems that those ppl see themselves as victims and believe that others are out there to get them!
Salamphoenix 1 year ago
@Salamphoenix It seems that in Doug's case - and in so many other cases - people WERE out to get him, no? How about the way his dad treated him? That forms a kid's view on the world, you know. It's not in any way an excuse for how he treated those three people himself, but then, that wasn't what you said either.
