  • IM going to see this on may 3 SOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!

  • We were at a pizzeria outside the theater in new York where this was on. The line was massive. I love this show

  • Эта лучшая Увертюра в истории Призрака оперы!!!! хотя нет, эта лучшая, из всех когда либо созданных увертюр!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @VladaNastina ~Um...what?...

  • Imagine you're sitting in the theatre and you can hear the guy from the beginning say "Lot 666 then... a chandelier in pieces..." He goes on... "Maybe we frighten away the ghost of so many years ago with a little illumination... gentlemen?" And then the chandelier gets uncovered, raises above your head and this epic overture starts... I always get goose pimples...

Probably one of the best moments in my whole life.

(Well, there weren't any other great moments in my life - I'm just 14 years old)

  • The first time I heard this, I was watching it as an in-flight movie. The highest the earphones went up to was still barely high enough for me to hear, so I was kind of zoning out during the auction. Then this overture came in, ear-blastingly high and completely epic. Ever since, I've turned the volume up several notches when the overture starts, because that is the proper way to blow your mind with this piece. I've watched it over 20 times and still love it.

  • how on earth can you not love this overture? its an absolute classic that everyone recognises

  • @asiangemini13 an absolute pink floyd kidnap

  • @GermanStel not at all, actually Webber composed the song in wich this is based: it is the ending of "Close every door", wich he composed 2 years before Pink Floyd came out with that song (listen to it closely). If it were something, then Pink Floyd copied Webber.

Anyway, I respect pink floyd but seriously, daring to even compare the musical genius of Webber to pink floyd and implying he needs to copy them is just insulting. Even one of those pink floyd guys found the sole idea idiotic.

  • 1:18 is my favorite part :]

  • 17 people should not be allowed to listen to music

  • @nfani0

17 people are Pink Floyd fans. Enjoy this delicious copy pasta.

  • what's the name of this movie?

  • @Cuz155 The Phantom Of The Opera

  • I always get chills in the opening of the movie.

  • Prof. Virgínia... É simplesmente épico você querer que a gente se inspire no cenário de Fantasma da Ópera pra fazer um palco de formatura de medicina.. :P

  • when i saw this and this came on, it was explosive <3

  • Great base pipes at 0:40.

    I love playing to this.

  • this

  • 16 stupid people miss the like button:(

  • this is rly good! excellent vid!!!

  • Spellbound .... absoulutley IMMENCE!!!

  • Emmy Rossum looks so hot in the white stockings and suspenders !!

double ding and a double dong ! :)

  • Thank you for this version. Nice incorporation.

  • Like The Phantom of the Opera??.. Follow these PHANS on Twitter!! @IzzyMonsterrr @GerardPhan @SaRaH_bOyD @vatafairefoutre @cornix_regina @erikphantomlady @givemeyamarmite @SamnthasPhantom

  • I love this song espcially the oringinal

  • I love this song espcially the oringinal

  • Wow! The beginning of this is amazing! I love this show!

  • Hm. It's a good overture, but not as powerful as the stage one! Cor, that one will blow you away!

  • we are playing this in our 7th grade band

  • I love this number. It's just so damn impressive and awe inspiring. I wonder what this would sound like with something like the organ of the Sydney Opera House, all stops out.

  • LIES!

*hisses and claws in general direction*

I'LL BE WEARING YOUR SKIN WHEN I'M THRU WITH YOU ROGER WATERS!!!!!! *insert angry face here*

  • you need a copyright to plagiarize something.

and since you can't copyright a musical scale it isn't ripping off of anything.

otherwise I would have to pay someone royalties to practice scales in my backyard.

cease and desist your ignorant ramblings.

  • @FinalBossDesu

Sorry, that's a pentatonic scale. You can't copyright musical notes.

  • love the music!!!

  • I just listened to both songs, Phantom of the Opera and the Pink Floyd song. Really, the only similarity I heard was the set of scales going up and down. That was it. You really want to call that plagiarism? Both songs are absolutely fantastic and I believe both songs are quite unique and apart from each other.

    My two cents.

  • when does the scene at 1:32 take place???? I don't remember

  • Just after "Music of the Night"

  • This is my ringtone. I haven't changed it in years, because just how awesome is it to hear ALW blazing from your phone?

  • Comment removed

  • I must say, I prefer the original arrangement from the Stage show, but this is quite good none the less.

  • Personally, it's not my favorite interpretation but it still remains awesome!

  • è meraviglioso! Brava!!

  • Andrew Lloyd Webber is a Genuis!

  • Epic

  • Epicness

The best overture in the history of overtures =)

  • DEFF even better then pirates or 2012!! best overture EVER!!

  • Agreed!

  • @MorningstarDawnclan accept for the fact that its completely ripped off of a Pink Floyd song.... Echoes, look it up.

  • @13Knives1 actually other way around i love pink floyd and all but the first "version" of the musical adaption of the book was in 1918 so yeah.....

  • @MorningstarDawnclan The overture is plagied from Pink floyd "echoes. just listen.

  • @rockaires All that goes to show is that forever after Pink Floyd, it is impossible to escape their influence.

  • @MorningstarDawnclan I disagree, the one of Ben Hur is epic too! Ex Aequo, in very different styles!

  • Our eng class had read this book...everyone in my class was in love with this

  • I remember watching the video in my arts studies class. Such an amazing piece of art will always remain in my mind.

  • Listened to in music class. It's awesome. A must love. The whole overture is epic and breathtaking. OFC the whole movie and show too.

  • I saw the play yesterday and it was great, though I'd like to see the movie too. But music is always better to be heard alive. Breath-taking.

  • Must be the most dramatic overture in modern musical theatre ....... fantastic !

  • I saw it in the theatre, and it was absolutely breath-takeing.

  • I love the movie but its nothing compare too seeing the show live!

  • @KerryEllisFannn Don't I know it; I saw it at the KC Music Hall last year and I was blown away!!!

  • @KerryEllisFannn : definitely !

  • @KerryEllisFannn I agree. My mom and I went to see it in Detroit Michigan and it was an amazing show. I own an actual Phantom Of The Opera's Phantom mask. I hope it comes back to Toronto, Ontario, Canada because it is the best place to see it.

  • Beautiful movie. so romantic. I've never seen the stage musical, but I'd so love to.

  • Ya know what weird...

I watched the movies like 20 times before I saw the play, and I memorized most of the words of the movie.

When I saw the play, I knew almost all the words to it! It was weird, I thought they'd be more to play. The only thing that there was more of was that one Verse in Phantom of the Opera... And I guess the mini song "Your hand at the level of your eyes" was just in the movie... So so so strange.

  • This song just sends shivers down my spine

  • i loved the musical it was soo stunning the overture was one of my favorite parts

  • this shul be the movie trailer insted of just and AMV to Youtube!!!!!

  • i dont mean to criticize, and im not even sure if im right, but im pretty sure AMV standsa for anime music video. at least, those are the only ones ive seen that particular achronyme used, and this is certainly not anime. again, im not entrely sure

  • Yeah AMV does stand for anime music video.

  • thought so

  • It can also mean Animated Music Video, where a bunch of stuff is animated.

  • my music teacher made me watch this movie i thought it was going to suck becuase most operas do but it was awesome!!!

  • poto isn't an opera

  • That's right, it's popular musical theatre. There's a difference. The only real reason the word "opera" is in the title is because it's a story which takes place at the Paris Opera House.

On a side note: this is a good clip, but I must admit, I much prefer the original score for the overture without all the added orchestrations at the end that they used in the movie. The original opening chords are also MUCH more powerful and bassey which is how it should be. Cheers

  • actually, most operas are pretty good, they seldom transition well to movies though.

  • its not an opera though, its called the phantom of the opera implying the phantom of the the opera theatre, but they dont sing opera.

  • magical!!!!

  • i am in love with phantom of the opera! i recorded it on my phone and it kinda sucks but it still works for me.

  • amazing song, i feel a phantom In my head, Thanks for share.

  • The live musical was like going to heaven ! xD

  • I'm so jealous! I want to go!

  • I agree with Dridler00. For example, I went to see Wall-E with my best friend, and I HATED it! Yet it was rated as the best in America. That sucked hardcore!

  • Just a few weeks ago I watched the show in London! Great!

  • I'm going to do that next month. Is it better than the film??

  • Better? You can't compare the film with the musical!

I'm from Germany and watched it during a class trip. After returning home I watched the German version of the film - it seemed as absolute crap to me (maybe due to the really bad synchronisation). I think the English version of the film is better than the German one, but the musical in London is still much better.

  • I went to London to watch it too *_* It was magical..

  • seria legal se colocassem com trailler do filme

  • The stage version is SOOOO much better.

    See it live.

    It's PHENOMENAL.

The movie wasn't compared to how amazing the show is.

  • this overture rocks ive seen phantom of the opera one of the best musicals

  • Fantastic tunes :D

  • I love that gown Emmy Rossum wore for "Think of Me".

  • I used to be scared of this song (the whole Phantom idea to be honest lol) but now I think its beautiful. my favourite song from it is a tossup between this, "Music of the Night" and "All I Ask of You" (that last one is probably the best if not this)

  • I know me too! It used to give me chills like I was scared, now because it is so amazing!!

  • hmmm, i uploaded the entire movie just yesterday, please watch them, rate them, they're in high quality,is this same movie by Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossumm, hope you like it guys, and thanks

  • Just saw Phantom in NZ, auckland. Was seriously awesome. MAN

The chandelier being raised to this tune was unbelievable. Hugely loud organs, strobes, flashing chandelier..

  • omg its so loveable!!! i love love =]

  • Damn. This is a good song. I'm actually going to see this sometime in 2009. Sometime in April or May, I think.

  • i can't find the full song...& i didn't found it as an mp3

  • well i think the creators are very careful about their songs since it IS what make the opera so good so theyre not gonna let anyone find it easly. the best way would be to buy the songs from their website.

  • That is some awesome music right there. Lloyd Webber certainly did some beastly tunes

  • where can i find this song......the instrumental version?

  • did u try searching "phantom of the opera overture- instrumental version"? i get it when i just search "phantom of the opera overture"

  • what's with all the non-organ instrumentation?

  • you did a great job of this video! love it!

  • I loved this movie

  • ohh man this song gives me goosepimples D=

  • I beleive you mean GOOSEFLESH.

  • goosepimples has the same meaning...

  • some people even say GOOSEBUMPS. and when we get any one of these the little hairs on our body are stading up which is how we warm ourselves up- they provide insulation

  • mhm, yay insulation =P

  • u need insulation or you would freeze to death if you got too cold. our internal body tem cant go below 84 degrees or we'd die. we also cant go over 111.7 degrees or we'd die.

  • i didn't know that, thats kinda scary 0.o

  • how is it scary? i learned it all in foundations of science this week

oops i meant TEMP not TEM

  • it's just wierd to think how our bodies are kind of fragile, but i think i have been watching too much saw latley ¬_¬

  • i've never seen saw and my mom said it was so stupid but it looked scary 2 me so im not gonna watch it

  • ive seen 1 2 3 4, but i havent seen 5 yet, i want to though, but saw 1 was plain awful ¬_¬

  • if it was awful y'd they make 4 more? usually when a movie does well at the box office they'll make another 1 but if it was bad idk y they made more?

  • for me the acting wasn't that great, but the rest I like alot

  • i dont think i'd watch it. if my mom says it was stupid then thats enough to tell me not to watch it. but she rarely likes those types of movies. well, im like her so i guess it is true. idk im rambling. hehe

  • how is SAW coming into a POTO video...tell me that please!

  • Maybe, in your culture, the purpose of a film is to make money.

In that circumstance, the film that grosses high at the box office is a *good one*.

In many other cultures of the world, acting and production are considered as forms of art.

Is this an such alien concept, to one so subsumed in the "culture" of capital?

  • andfew loyd webber is a musical GENIUS!!!!!!

  • Agreed. Andrew Lloyd Webber is a GENIUS...for realz.

  • just saw the play in las vegas last night. amazing. i'm in love.

  • this song is addicting

    espescially the beginning

  • I hadn't went to see the show for a while. Untill last year some tickets became avaible. When I saw the show and heard this music I started to tear up. GREAT SONG

  • I played this for the end of a service once at my church... I got in trouble.

  • I love this musical, my favorite of all times, and I loved playing this in our band, it was so fun....Maybe I'll get to do it sometime in an actual orchestra....

  • I'm not usually really that much into this type of music, but there's just something about this particular tune. It gives me the chills every single time. Truly a great song. :)

  • a great serenade. very dramatic and suspenseful

  • i was on a piano course the other week, we were in one of the practice rooms messing around, it was dark outside and someone turned the lights out. i found the piano and hammered this out. terrified the lot of them.

most fun i had all week

  • this song is very simple and yet so incredibly awesome

  • Andrew Lloyd Webber's music portray;s character's emotions so beautifully, some of the songs make me tear up!

  • I don't know why they do thumbs down on you man, that one is awesome.

  • Yeah, I love this, too. This is my favorite version of the overture...and the overture's one of my favorite numbers from the show.
