What if I want to copy my files to an external hard drive and keep them in the external? instead of putting the hard drive in the laptop or pc, thanks.
For those of you who are wondering why the hell you need the external hard drive enclosure, it's because he's using a laptop. For all you desktop users, I did this exactly without the enclosure. All I had to do was hook up my new SATA drive using another SATA cable. It's the same principal.
Acronis will make a new partition on new HDD, which has only one partition, my old hard drive has two partitions, if I clone the old HDD to new HDD will create two partitions on my new HDD??Please respon me THX
Hello, this procedure also applies to transfer data from an IDE hard drive to a SATA? Without this, the boot will work on the new SATA hard disk? Thanks.
great instructions question: Can you take a cloned hard drive from one computer and put it into another (i.e. clone a windows 7 Desktop hard drive to a Laptop Hard drive and place the clone in a laptop) thanks
Excellent instructional videos. I did the Acronis clone from your first video some 4mths ago. Cloned my old 40GB to a WD Rapture 80GB (has 10,000 RPM's...super fast!) ...works terrific! Copied my entire WinXP OS to the new drive as well.
Was wondering what kind of Dell Laptop model that is...looks like something I'd like to buy off Ebay (never owned a laptop before)...thanks, DhDo74 ...Dave
Can I clone my hard drive to an external hard drive and have my computer boot from the external one? I have windows vista and my hard drive is acting weird. I'll be waiting for your response. Thanks in advance. I forgot to say that I have a desktop.
LET THEM TRALK MAN RIGHT ON YOUR ALL RIGHT YOU JUST WANNA EXLPLAIN 5THE RIGHT WAY AND YOU DONT WANNA MESS UP ANY PC FROM OTHER [PEOPLE THATS WHY YOU A LIL JUMPY , BUT IT WORKED TNX
Stop apologizing! You took the time to help people who might not otherwise have known how to do this. If somebody does not have 10 minutes of their life to spend watching a video ON ANY TOPIC, then they have done something horribly wrong in life which has denied them the luxury time to do WHATEVER THEY WANT with a ten minute block of time. YES! Hitting the pause button now and then when unscrewing the case would be better, but... SCREW IT! It's not a big deal.
While I can understand that the impatient may have found your rambling and in-depth explanation/demonstration somewhat tedious, I am nonetheless appreciative that you went to that much trouble and took that time to "dumb it down", as you have said. It's a refreshing change to see and hear something explained in that detail, without rushing. Thank you!
I do have other questions, though. As one is limited to 500 characters, hopefully I can get them to you in a subsequent posting.
I am getting a new hard drive for my desktop but I can just pop my new hard drive in with my old one and boot to windows and do the cloning procedure right? when done, I can just remove my old one and do some cable rearrangements and then I can boot into my new hard drive as if I am still using my old one? Does this have an impact on loading performance? Would my new hard drive think it is my old one? This tutorial will save me a lot of time and money. Thanks.

dude your video was 10 min long. if i was to video edit this and get rid of all the stupid and pointless rambaling and time it takes to unscrew and plug everything back in i could make this a 3 min vid. strait forward and to the point..
when you make videos like this you bore people that just want to get it done -_-
@Stuna2150 When I made this video I didn't feel like editing, I just wanted to get it up and done already. A few months later i started editing some videos. I apologize dearly if this boring video offends you in anyway, it was just carelessness. With 4 years of professional video editing classes my viewers should expect better of me.
@Stuna2150 no his video actually helped i wasnt sure how to plug the new hard drive in an copy it and he said you need a encloser no other video says that this helped
@Stuna2150 There's A LOT of people who appreciate walk through's especially people who dont know much about what they're doing or what they are up against, I've seen videos WAY worse then this, I am a video editor but when it comes to YouTube I REALLY dont worry about it because some times too much explanation is better then little to no explanation, he took time to film this which says he's not lazy about it and wanted to help the community for those who need help.
actually now it can detect the hard drive. but after i formatted my 500gb hard drive its only showing up to be 73gb. When i cloned my hard drive it was 73gb and now its stuck at that capacity. Anyone know how to fix this issue?
you have a 73gb partition and an unformated of 365gb - right click on My computer, left click on Manage, left click on Device Manager, locate the unformated partition, make it a primary partition and then format it
I have a problem. I cloned my hard drive and forgot to do the step for add new disk. The system was unable to use the new hard drive. So, I just formatted the hard drive to try to add new disk again. This time the program acronis migrate easy said I only have 1 hard drive and is unable to add another hard drive. Can someone help me please.
also bro... if i just buy another hdd and keep the other one what happens to my operating system? do i have to reinstall it cuz i have no fukin idea how to do this :> thanks alot your being a gr8 help
@MrIownage Hey just watch part 1 of this video, it will teach you how to clone everything to your newer hard drive so you won't have to reinstall anything and waste time.
@MrIownage Well looking at your computer it seems to be an older model, Older model computers are usually EIDE and the new models are all SATA. What you can do is go into control panel-> Hardware & Sound -> Device Manager
And under "disk drive" the words "S ATA or EIDE" will be present. If you see either one then that is your hard drive type.
Or if you want to get your hands dirty and make sure, turn off your computer and take your hard drive out and check.
hello , there very interesting video! i have a ibm thinkpad t42 laptop computer currently running of a 40gb hdd and i was wondering where i can find the hard drive bay and also how do i clone >>>> soz i but i need alot of help :S thanks alot bro
@MrIownage Hey buddy, I looked up the details of your laptop and I really don't think you have additional open hard drive bays to where you can shove another one in and clone. If you do want to clone I suggest you purchase a hard drive enclosure specifically made for the kind of hard drive you have (SATA or EIDE) and run my tutorial from there.
i have been using norton ghost for a few entire pc backup but i still want to ask this. do true image and norton ghost performs a formation for the hard disk(s)? do they formats the hard disk(s) before backing them up?
Question.. I have a similar laptop, an Inspiron e1505/6400. I've read some reviews and people have experienced problems when trying to do a clone with their Media Direct on the Dell. Did you have any problems with that or any of the other partitions?
Hey, thanks for the question. I have not had any problems at all with cloning. If you watched part 1 of this video I go in depth of showing you how to use Acronis Migrate Easy and everything is nice and dandy. Just simple, clean and really fast with no errors. Just follow the instructions and you will end up happy!
Thanx Man.. I looked up your model and its a little different from mine. Mine has a built in Media Direct function which has its own hidden partition. And from some of my other research I've found that it may not work coming from a clone. I think I may just take it to Geek Squad, so if it comes back screwed up they will be responsible and they can fix it.. But Thanx again and keep up the great Vids.
good luck with geek squad buddy, my viewers always have a tendency to get leeched out of there money by geek squad and get nothing really fixed. Hope they help you!
I just wanna be sure on something, when you clone your old hard drive, that's mean the new one has everything like the old one? Including all installs softwares?
yes, watch part 1, that is where I explain everything.
It grabs all your old stuff including OS, all programs, documents, pictures, videos, every single thing that you have on your old hard drive and pastes itself onto your bigger hard drive.
so its like nothing has changed at all except its a much larger hard drive.
A problem has been detected and window has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow thest steps:
CHeck for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminaed. Run CHKDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer.
So I need to purchase encloser right. after I done what you show on this site. Since I don't have my installer cd from Dell. Do I need to call Dell and ask them to send me the cd so I can installed vista on the new hard drive.
no, when you click backup on the enclosure it just does a backup file procedure on the hard drive itself. To copy/clone the entire hard drive, watch part one of this video.
yeah, gotta do this as soon as my new HD comes, my current wont last another 2 restarts, thanks for the detailed video,
